Hi Maria. Enjoyed your video. Just wanted to say I use Aleen's "tacky" glue same as your Elmer's and by "feel". Instead of 'dunking' the object in, I dab the glue mixture on with a flat tip paint brush. Only other difference is I use wax paper instead of aluminum foil. I do turn over too, but don't usually turn over when drying. Just let it dry and peel. I don't use black tatting thread to so that might make a difference in the appearance of the glue too. Thanks for taking the time to make the video. I'm sure it will help a lot of beginner tatters!

Thank you for your excellent videos, so clear and just the right speed! I love your creative jewellery! I prefer to use thinner glue (more diluted) and repeat the application a second time, with a small paintbrush. There is less chance of getting globs of white glue this way. Also it's good to warn people that light colours will appear darker after stiffening with glue.

I tried the Joann store brand clear, no-run glue mixed with water and it worked great. I used your dunking and placing on foil method. I wouldn’t put on waxed or parchment paper as someone suggested, it might stick? This was my first try at stiffening a tatted project, and I am very new tatting. My thread was a medium violet color and I think clear glue could be great for dark thread. I’ll keep experimenting!

Just brush them with permanent clear or clear nail polish then you would not have to wipe it off and less mess

Does this work for anything you want to stiffen?

Forgot to add it you have real fancy design that wants to turn of not stay in place put wax paper under and then use pins to get it the way you want and let it dry

Would it be the same procedure with metallic yarn? I have some things tatted with 3 ply metallic thread and I'd like to stiffen it up

What about the metal balls on the earring? Does it get dull from the glue?
@MariaPapia3 жыл бұрын
The glue dries clear but you can always starch the glue off from the beads 😊

+Catherine Lane I have never use nail polish so I am not sure if you can use that. Feel free to visit my channel "Maria Papia" I have a "earrings" section, you might find a video on some earrings there. If you don't see some you like let me know and I might be able to make a new tutorial.

In the sewing sections of most walmart stores there are stiffeners you can use . Also starch will work you just have to mix it like the glue.

is it bard to get the glue off the beads?
@MariaPapia5 жыл бұрын
You could probably just scratch the glue off the beads

Yes

If you make it a little thinner, the item will just take longer to dry, but will be less of a chance of glue globs.....
@MariaPapia7 жыл бұрын
+Becky Shock in the past I have done it thinner and my earrings don't stay as hard as I like them to be. Thank you for the tip

Mod Podge is actually the same mixture of white glue and water, so yes, just use a little and water down some so the glue isn’t so thick
