I was always annoyed by the home screen, as sometimes I move files so the thumbnails shown on home don't always connect once file is moved. This is better that I can turn it on or off whenever I want. Thanks for that.

You could also clear the thumbnails if you wanted by going to File > Open Recent > Clear Recent File List.

The video doesn’t answer “why you should” turn it off. Maybe if you’re a power user you’d want to bypass it, but I don’t see any disadvantage to leaving it on, especially for a novice user (you might see an interesting tutorial).

Yes, I'm missing the "why you should" part as well ;) Maybe if you have thumbnails of NFSW images there this is a good idea... I actually know people that do not like to having to click for some function twice (not only in PS, but other software as well), so on the home screen there is a button "New File" - one click. Without the home screen, File > New - two clicks (and these people do not like to use shortcuts to avoid clicking to often for whatever reason). Same clicking problem for opening recent files, or even worse (actually the video is a good example why the thumbnails are good and you should use the homescreen), open recent files and see a list of meaningless numbers... and you don't remember which number is which image, so accidentally you open the wrong at first. And maybe you need even more tries. So the "why you should" part is really not becoming clear to me.

I love the home screen for its recent files thumbnails, but maybe not so much for the tutorials. If you hit the Home Screen button with files open, you can go back by clicking on the Photoshop icon with left cursor symbol just above the New File button, or, as always, just hit Escape. Clicking on Your Files from the Home screen expands the number of thumbnails, but I don't know how this works. For instance, I am seeing files last opened two years ago! Anyone know how this works? It would nice if we could assign shortcuts to Home screen and Your Files, but neither seem possible. Nor is possible to record Actions, so we could use shortcuts with them.

Thanks for watching! "Your files" on the Home Screen opens files saved to the cloud. I save to the cloud all the time as an easy way to access files from my PC or Mac. And I agree that the Recent Files thumbnails are a really nice feature.

I can’t stand using that home screen. I also turn it right off When Photoshop loads up…all I want to see is blank canvas.

Nice trick but, in fact, not working if you don't close photoshop from a file (open or closed one). When you close photoshop from the Home Screen, even if deactivated, it reappears at the next time. version 25.6.0

@@PhotoshopEssentialsChannel I guess he misunderstood your explanation that from the moment after opening a file, the home screen will disappear on startup forever, no matter if it is there or not when closing PS.

Nope, not working for me. Mac os 13.4, PS 25.6.0 Followed these instructions to the letter 3 times...still showing the PS home screen. Creating or opening a new file then closing it makes no differece

It should work. I just tested in on my Mac running MacOS 14.4 and Photoshop 25.6. It may be that your Preferences are not being saved. Have you tried resetting the Preferences?
