All of the best ball strikers hit the ball followed by the turf, this is often difficult to achieve for many amateurs struggling with their ball striking.
In this short video Chris Ryan shows you just how to achieve the correct impact in order to achieve this, but more importantly explains what is often the 'missing piece' of the puzzle which if addressed, can have incredible results!

Outstanding video, thanks. This is me to a tee. You are the first person I have seen that addressed the mental aspect, and acknowledged that "this is going to be hard", rather than promising a quick fix. Cheers!

Excellent! I would even add that amateurs practice on poor-quality mats and the brain gets also trained to think that “when the club hits the ground... it hurts the body!”....

This drill will be a staple of mine for the foreseeable future. I’m terrified of hitting the ground because, for me, it often means missing or topping badly. You hit the nail on the head with where my thinking is. Thanks so much for this, Chris!

This video is pure gold! I’ve probably watched hundreds of strike improvement videos but NEVER have I seen someone explain it as setting up the correct “geometry” of the body to make it next to impossible to get a bad strike. This alone make this video stand out above the rest. If only it were as easy to fix my inside takeaway issues... ;). Thanks Chris...great stuff!

This is a good video about a tricky subject. Not as easy as you make it look but has to be worked on. I spent many years practising in my garden and purposely trying to avoid hitting the ground for obvious reasons. Knock on effect is that I have transferred this to the course with poor results. This video is a real help in that it is the first time I've seen the connection between a phobia of hitting the ball on either side! Makes complete sense. Thanks Chris.

Yes. Tremendous video. Unlearning then learning. I tend to stall through impact and "lift". This teaches me to get the right shoulder down, through and around whilst coming "up and out" of the shot using the ground. Much cleaner contact and more distance. And cheaper than having the hard drive of my brain erased and re-formatted. Excellent stuff Chris!

Thanks Chris. A few shots I tend to hit fat shots due to keeping too much weight on my back foot. I am practicing your three tips at set up to hit my irons with more compression-push hands forward a few inches in front of the ball; rotate slightly by moving my right knee toward the target and putting pressure on my front foot; and taking a small divot in front of the ball. Enjoy your tips.

Thanks for the excellent video Chris. I've started doing a move with my lower body that allows me to relax my arms threw impact and get excellent ball first impact, with more clubhead speed. In the past I've tried to trigger the downswing with a stamping of the left heel. It's a move that I found very easy to overdo and it produced very inconsistent results. I think that the problem for me was that this move didn't guarantee a good weight transfer or turning of the pelvis through the ball. What does work consistently for me is to trigger the downswing with a small turning of the pelvis toward the target, followed immediately by a slight downward pressure of the back of the left heel into the turf. It's surprising how well this subtle, lower body dance move, whips the relaxed arms and clubhead through impact.

I go to the range everyday, hit a large bucket of balls using this contact drill only, Excellent, I feel the confidence in my swing and I'm taking divots in the correct place now, maybe if my attention is lacking I may hit behind the ball once during the entire bucket..I'll be conducting this drill for some time, since I get free range time, until it feel natural, I may tweek it slightly to take just ever so less of a deep divot. But I feel and hear that awesome click of the ball coming off the club face..Baby steps to my ultimate goal of solid consistency..Remember to focus on every shot, routine is essential..

You nailed it Christopher!! One of my biggest fears is hitting the ball fat because of early negative development. This in turn causes me to stand up during the downswing to avoid hitting it fat, which in turn causes the flip to compensate. I’ve been working on maintaining the body angles with more rotation and this drill will help.

This is good stuff regarding the mental aspect of hitting the ground. You describe me pretty well there. I have learned to hate, hate, hate hitting the ground because I despise hitting the ball fat. So thanks for this. It is really helpful. That said, the alignment stick bit didn't make much sense to me. Having set up the station, you take your stance at the 2nd (forward-most ball), then simulate the impact position and practice small swings hitting the ground in front of that ball. It doesn't seem to matter that there is an alignment stick and another ball on the ground. The only think I can assume the stick was for is as something we want to be sure to avoid hitting. If so, I think you should have spelled that out. Regardless, I got a lot of value out of this video because of the discussion of the mental aspect that we need to overcome.
