In this tip I teach you how to hit your driver long and straight. This tip is unlike anything you've heard in the past so please watch the whole lesson and incorporate these thoughts into your swing the next time you practice.
Free samples from my Body Swing book and video series here: bodyswing.com/freesamples/
For this driver tip, we're looking at 2 areas of the swing. The top of the backswing just as you start down and just before you hit the ball. These are the 2 areas that can hamper both distance and consistency.
As I explain these thoughts try to change them into the future. If so, it'll turn your arms off so you can use your body to hit the ball as opposed to just your arms. Too many people are just trying to hit driver as hard as they can. This feels good. It feels powerful and it feels natural. The problem is, this is not how to hit your driver longer and straighter.
So focus on the tips I explain in this video. Give them a try the next time you're at the range. Now this doesn't mean you are going to try it for 3 shots. Keep doing it for at least 1 bucket. If so, you will be amazed at how much better you hit your driver.
Please visit the link below and I will send you free samples from my Body Swing book and video series: bodyswing.com/freesamples/

Hi Paul. I've watched just about all of your videos and have patterned my swing accordingly. Great methods. You had a tip about marking the ground 6" behind,on the inside (Driver), in order to give a focal point so you catch the ball on the upswing. It's really helped me and I wanted share it but, I can't seem to find it. Can youpoint me to that video? Thanks

Glad you like the tips. Thanks. Here is the tip you are looking for: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o552q7aLuNOvdas.html Putting is simple. You need to be target oriented. Imagine a ball in your bottom hand. Thumbs straight down the flat surface of the grip. Feel like you are throwing the ball at the target. That will move the face to the target. NEVER think about your stroke. Practice only long putts 30+ feet and 6 feet or less. That's it. Do that you will be great.

Gave you a bucket at the range today and wow. I certainly did hit some mind blowing shots. Long and straight. I couldn’t even see my ball land. Unbelievable results. Thank you Paul 😭😭 The lightbulb moment for me is thinking of point B as the finish, not the ball, and “I don’t care about the ball area anymore”

Wow! I love swinging from point A to point B. Turn back, turn through and observe. My first instructor, Dutch Rittenhouse told me from address to turn to whatever length backswing I needed, hold onto the club and turn to a good finish with my weight on my left foot tip of my right toe and my stomach pointing toward my target. It eliminates the ball, just as making good golf swings without a club or ball to develop a consistent golf swing. Thanks again!

since using the swing Paul teaches I have gained 18-25 yards on my drives, increased clubhead speed from 70-72 to 78-81 CONSISTANTLY and straight down the pipe for 8 of every ten drives per round. My course handicap has gone from 6 to a one, and GHIN handicap from 12.3 to 7.3...yes it takes a lot of hard work on the range...drill after drill hundreds of reps and 9 weeks of 18 hole course play an average of 5 rounds per week (florida golf) but the results will amaze!..I am 70 year old senior with about 80-85 degree shoulder turn. Do what Paul teaches, COIL and get the hip turn snap until it becomes automatic...do the drills to increase speed with the driver off the ground...100 reps a day and you will see dramatic results in less than a week. 50 years of doing it the "pro" way does not work!..Simple, pain free, longer drives, lower handicap and FUN!!!

One of the things that really helped me with this, was practicing hitting balls starting from the top of my backswing, or like a 3/4 swing starting from the top. Because you can't wind it up first, you just sort of have to let it fall down through the ball, and it almost always turns out a nice strong hit from the inside if you don't try to add extra power to your arms on the way through. Great video once again Paul, thanks so much.

So you are either getting distracted or greedy looking for more power. So focus and be content with what you are capable of doing. Swinging harder is not going to get you any more power. If you want more then fire your legs harder.

The golf season just came to an end in Wisconsin but in learning to use the “body swing” over the last six weeks, my drives went from about 230 to often over 280-285 and rarely missing the fairway. My scores dropped from around the low 90’s to the low 80’s and will certainly improve more as I work on your tips for my short game. Thank you, Paul. Going to try to get my 2 sons to get into your lessons as well.

Glad you are improving. For any shot especially driver you watch your ball. This will tell you everything. Spin = wrists, direction = body. Then contact = hitting with arms. If you were slicing what would that tell you? Wrists are too tight so loosen them up and get it hooking then add body to straighten it out. So simple. If you were pushing or pulling? Body tilt. Tilt left (hitting with arms) you will hit it left. Push you are either driving the lower too hard or sliding. Done.

Great point about the ball not being what you are trying to hit in golf. So many new players and even amateurs that played the game for awhile lose sight of that. The golf ball is just the projectile object used with the golf clubs to hit target. Target is what you are trying to hit in golf. Whether that is the fairway from the tee box, or the middle of green/flagstick with approach.

I’ve been practicing non-stop on the range mainly with driver and I will admit I’m probably the most locked up and tight as possible during the entirety of the swing and using a lot of arms. Howeverrrr, I am carrying 280-300 yards. I’ve impressed myself but it comes with a lot of forearm pain. I really need to try implementing this because golf hurts me lol
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I would change because you are planning for the future. You need a swing for life. If you are in pain now just imaging 20 years from now. Plus, as you get older you get weaker. So you will be that older guy that comes to me hitting it nowhere. Just change over time. I would learn the neutral grip if you are not doing it already. Then keep loosening the wrists (if your grip is strong with the loose wrists you will hook it). So start with the grip. Then hinge and rehinge constantly to start loosening. Grip: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oLeKf9Npx6yRh6s.html Wrists: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a8V_Y6tjtrSqn2Q.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bMCVh9SU35jUnXk.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jtFnp5yqramzXX0.html

I've tried this technique for 2 rounds now. My irons and hybrids are much cleaner, straighter with less effort. I slice the driver quite a bit more, but I think I need to work to try to release earlier. Nonetheless, the key seems to be to not use your arms hardly at all. Just let them swing around your body. I cannot beleive it's this simple!

Yes, you need to release driver. If you are slicing it the face is open. So ... close it. Then stop thinking about it.

Glad you liked it. The Body Swing is exactly what I teach to students today. Since the release of SMG I learned a lot of short cuts and made it even more simple (no machine). There are also additions of things that people asked me about over the years. It is very similar but different. Those who have both say they compliment each other. If you want to pick it up email me for a discount code because you already have my first series.

Cool place. See that guitar you are holding in your profile pic (hope that's you). Think of learning the swing like learning 4 chords plus the grip and set up. Grip would be how to hold the pick. Set up is like putting the guitar over your head and standing up to play. Both take a little time. The chords would be coil then hinge. Uncoil and rehinge. 4 chords. So literally see it that way. Going between the chords would be you going from the backswing to the follow through. Play something wrong you get a crappy sound. Hit it wrong the ball spins the wrong way or you are on the wrong direction. Think like that and you will get it no time. Did you pick up a guitar and think you would be Eddie Van Halen in a few days. No. You get at guitar and you think you will be half decent in 2-3 years. I can get the swing really good in 2-3 months. In minutes to a few days you should be able to hit some amazing shots. Keep it this simple. If you mastered guitar you can master golf.

I’ve improved tremendously from a 25 handicap to a 15 handicap within just 2 months of watching your tips, BUT my driver is too inconsistent. Paul, you emphasize a lot in this video not to do anything at the top of the swing, 2 questions I have is, what is the FEEL you have with your hands as you set them right before transition, and I can’t seem to feel the loose wrists at impact, what do u Feel with your wrists at impact? Thank you

Very good. Keep watching and it will sink in even more. Nice drop in handicap. Next year will be a single digit. 1. All I am doing up there is setting my top of the backswing position. There is a feel like like so I try to feel that every time. Then nothing in the down and through swing. 2. Impact - nothing but I have worked on hinging and reghinging millions of times. Just do the hinge drill constantly until you get them loose with a secure grip: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/kJ57ZqqU2dHeZ3U.html and kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bMCVh9SU35jUnXk.html

So Paul are you saying that you do not rotate your wrist, that your body, shoulders and hips make them rotate. Or are you rotating them as you move your body?
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf 4 жыл бұрын
That is correct. Physics will rotate them for you. Would mass not swing to its widest point 100% of the time? The widest point is when your arms are stretched out. If you let the club go it would swing to its widest point thus squaring the face.

My arm is extended but not locked. I feel the club set. At this point I do nothing. My focus is on lower body. I start firing the lower and the arms follow. So hit the top and tell yourself to do nothing with your arms. They are attached to your body. Move your body and your arms will move.

That mo' fo is still up in the air! Paul, let's say you've got all of your ducks in a row... swing plane, ball position, everything and you're connecting well but don't quite have the distance you want yet... Will using a bottom of the line driver versus top of the line driver have big distance differentials. For example, Taylor Made top of the line versus Top Flite $200 set?
@paulwilsongolf

You will get a little more than the new set but newer clubs. A big part of it is the shaft. So if your swing was a that point you would want to be professionally fitted to get the most of your equipment.

I'm going to give this an honest try. I'm brand new to golfing but I come from a baseball/football background. My mindset when I tee up is "Put a CHARGE into it!" and "Coil up and UNLEASH!". The ball goes in every damn direction except the one I would like it to. The other day I put a charge into one and I was sure I smoked it. I'm looking for it on the horizon and I hear my buddies laughing from behind me. Thing drops like 20 feet from where I'm standing. I don't know how it went straight up, but there it was. I'll report back with my results. Thanks!

Nice. You are heading in the right direction. Hook without trying to hook it was a grip problem. Do my neutral grip and you will never over hook it. Push - coming out of it probably trying to drive the lower too hard. Slow down. Get it back then gradually speed up the lower.
