The two main areas of improving your strokes are usually having better consistency and hitting with more power.
But did you know that you can improve both at the same time by focusing on one single goal?
That one goal is that you try to hit the ball in your ideal strike zone.
When you hit a forehand or a backhand in that ideal strike zone your body functions optimally - you have the most power in that position and it's the most natural way to swing.
This week's video explains:
- how to find and determine this strike zone,
- 2 reasons why you may not be hitting balls in the strike zone,
- and the most effective drill to teach the player on how to adjust with their feet in order to position themselves at the ideal distance from the ball.
The key message of the article is this: do not try to adjust to the ball with your arms but try to adjust with your feet.

Excellent. I now how 4 things from your videos to try to hit the ball in the ideal strike zone. Watching the ball, waiting for the ball, aim to hit the ball in front and this one. If only the rain would stop so I can experiment with these 🙏

First time watching you....what a find!!! You are an amazing communicator and I have learnt so much in this one video. "The price for good tennis shots is excellent footwork" priceless and so true. Even at 60+ I am still passionate about my tennis. Never to old to learn something new. Thank you for your efforts much appreciated.

Amazing. It really helps at this point in my learning (1.5 years) where I've worked hard on technique but just recently realized that my footwork and timing are as important as anything else.

if ive learned something from your videos, is, stretching to get the ball, trying to conserve energy, you waste more effort in the swing than you would if you got in the proper position. so its actually more conserving of energy to get into proper position

I play handball in nyc and for years I could not figure out how to fix my hitting form. Then I learned what proper form was but didn’t know how to hit with good form as much as possible. I think your video nailed my issue. I lean forward a lot sometimes to the point I am very off balance. This causes lots of pulled muscles and soreness. I will practice your drill but modified for handball by running with my elbow in my hip and try to get the ball into my hand. I really appreciate this video and hopefully this can improve my game.

Good video... thanks for sharing. I did a video about a year back where I plotted Djokovics moment within a point and froze it at contact...every ball was in his strike zone. I then placed an x on the court where he hit from... I did this for every ball. Of course there were many x's on the court and all were plotted around the court but the strike zone was never compromised. My point in doing this video was to show how he moved to make the ball cross his strike zone...most people would tell me he was right on top the baseline hitting but my video proved otherwise. it love to see you do a similar video.

I'm a big fan of yours Thomas, u have a sharp mind to detect what other instructor don't see. I'm struggling a lot with my backhand (at a point where I'm still not even sure wether to pick a 2hands or 1hand backhand). I watched a lot of KZfaq video about the subject but nothing works, I always seem to hit the ball at a bad position of the racket (I hear a bad noise). you never did video about backhands did you ? I'd love to hear what you have to say about the subject :)

Maybe you've forgotten to mention about the length of the racket. The strike zone should be just a racket length away from your hand.,which makes it a totally different spot.
