Nice demo on the body movement,I used to get nervous about missing my start and gate call for my race so some times I got to the gate way to early so I started watching starts and I began to study because where lived the closest local track was stacked with classes,and I noticed the pros were all so different and more so,they all left the gate so together it was crazy how close they were,even if u could close ur eyes it sounded like on big loud bikevleaving the line...they were tite...but I really noticed they all moved forward on the bike as it left the gate,like Tyler is showing,piece out,the rest is feel,the heavenly glory,traction management...who ever does it best useally gets the holeshot...

Thanks dude,love your videos and,thanks for keeping hope alive,ah l mean MX,MX. Factory bibles available soon,its good to see someone who cares teaching the youngins,kids are difficult at times but it just takes a little more patience from one kid to the next,they all don't learn at the same pace,that's it,and patience,I love your attitude apparently you watched the same crazy movies as me grown up...keep hope alive,the bikes are so bad ass today getting some schooling to start out is highly recommended,I have a very skateboard background mixed with MX,SX,and roadracing,with gymnastics and incredible balance,and mix that with the insatiable desire to fly,but everyone is not that fortunate,but all that stuff can be learned perfected,open your mind,listen to the right people,I'm just starting to race go karts at 54 years old,bored I guess,I miss motocross bad,flying the most,and dragging the bars thru a berm,oh yeah exploding germs too...keep them kids on their toes,and remember this is supposed to be fun damn it,bull Durham,fun is important.Goals to,got have goals,little bit at a time.Underhills check please,but I didn't have three bottles of don perjuin champagne...huh,piece out u guys are the greatest,I promise I won't tell anyone....

When I was racing my favorite part of the whole race was the start. The noise and the adrenaline made me go straight into bliss. It was like a high. I loved it. Going into that first corner in a pile of people not knowing if you were going to make it out is something that most people don't get to experience.

I finally got to go hard on my new yz250f i broke in last week. Im 200lb with my nuts on the fill cap and it goes front wheel up in 4th. So much for people saying it wouldnt be powerful enough to carry me. Ive watched all these videos numerous times but I practiced these for about an hour today and it isnt as easy as it sounds. I had a bit of trouble figuring out the speed to let off the clutch and twist the throttle so Id bog out for a second until it caught on, and if I nailed it, my bad shift lever adjustment due to my large feet kept biting me and I couldn't hit 5th smoothly, if at all. Hoping the weather stays nice thursday because I absolutely have to get out to the track for open practice. I feel like a kid even though I just turned 28. This bike is so fast

Dude I love your sense of humor,yes I'm with the Underhills,the whole weekend,hey that front fork lock down that I see the pros using on the nationals not stock device or aftermarket,I noticed your bike,or you didn't show using it or the difference that it makes.only cause it seems now they really pulling the forks down further twice as far as they used to first time I saw the mechanic lock a set of forks,thanks for the video on starts but I already know it all,hah hah...just kidding,no serious I always get the holeshot,I do it with my left up on the shifter,which is not the way everyone is showing it,two feet down,a foot up requires more precise balance,perfect need I say,love the videos keep up the good work,you make me raff,good ruck wit your new position,back to work...why have the workers stopped...gung ho...m Keaton...

Wear boots instead of tennis shoes and you'll be fine so long as you dont dig your toe into the dirt or hook a root or rock, not to mention the bike is balancing itself more than your legs once your moving you just skim the ground lightly.

I am a holeshot master,just naturally talented I guess,I love starts,one thing of mine that I will share with you'll that I noticed when I started racing motocross,I used to get so nervous about missing the call to the start gate,at my home track in New Jersey,I would get to the gate way to early,there was a crazy amount of classes,so I started to study everybody's starts mainly body position...and one thing that I picked up on,and something that I noticed was the difference between classes,something was missing,on the start smoothness is very important obviously,but I noticed some guys were better than others with their body position there was this little forward head and upper body movement that helps keep your balance over the center of the bike,I notice intermediates to pros doing it,just a fluid move everything follows the head,keep it center over the bike it don't matter where your feet are,I shift extremely fast so my left foot is up,its not the easiest way but I compensate for my foot up by moving my upper body head mostly,forward steady as I'm feeling the traction out at same time,figuring how far front do I want to stay for maximum grip acceleration away from gate,just keeping as much weight on rear tire,just to keep the front wheel up a couple inches so the rear grabs,the sweet spot,more traction u have the more effort,my background sandy loose dry no grip surfaces can be more aggressive,its tougher when you have grip,perfect dirt u just need to burn a little more clutch,but the head movement keeps your balance going forward,the thing I seen is rider allow their body to get pitched back on bike and that throws their balance off a second time,done toast that's why the forward movement is important then u slowly let yourself go back,but controlled only as far as needed,got it,four strokes get incredible traction,perfect to good that's why the bikes come with launch control ignitions,for different track surfaces,they are too good and they turn them down power wise to help control the grip delivery,ah but no one listens any way,what do I know, I love starts that I do know,it's because it the fastest I get to go the whole time on the track,everyone is at zero on the line even and I no I can beat them out and into turn one, I got a attitude problem,I love starts,I had to learn MX racing on my own but,I know how to launch a motorcycle,don't matter what kind it is,road race,dirt or whatever,practice practice,when I started riding I used to look at still pictures of Marty Smith in MXA,and copy his position,Marty always looked in the rite body position,and wow it worked,I can track the front end of a dirt bike with the best of them,reason three why I get holeshots,I break it down in to steps for me.good ruck...piece out ,roost on.

I’ve tried with both feet on the ground but feel more comfortable with right foot on the peg, I do sometime get abit sideways upon takeoff so that would be don’t to not squeezing the bike with both legs yeh?
@TheMxFactory
@TheMxFactory 6 жыл бұрын
+Jay Moss Typically going sideways is because you aren't equally weighting each side of the bike. That's the challenge of starting one foot up, but not saying it's a bad thing. Starting with a foot on the shift side can help you shift quicker. But yes, you still need to squeeze the bike with you legs to keep it straight under you and in control. Squeezing the bike with your thighs generally fixes any side to side issues. Good question!

Is there a reason why you have both feet down ? In road racing I used left foot down, right on the peg holding the foot brake to set the clutch slip, left leg straight back, foot standing on the toe not the ball of the foot. Similar to drag racing which is what I copied it from when I was racing 2 stroke twins and later 1000cc super bikes and vastly improved my starts.

@andrewwalter3049
@andrewwalter3049 4 жыл бұрын
The Gold state I guess your right because I definitely haven’t worked on 5 this month... dropping the clutch puts out a lot of torque at one time Hinson and realize releasing more because they have more clutch disk that are skinner than stock. This torque transfers to the transmission but feathering a clutch is like slipping a belt for say but I do agree get the clutch as close to slipping as possible before dropping it

@@TheMxFactory ive done a good bit of third gear starts, and only just a few fourth gear starts. I rode in deep sugar sand usually and preferred third for those starts, but in that slippery black Florida muck fourth was a viable alternative. Craziest acceleration a d rooster tails from a standstill I've experienced on my bike, though I'm sure my clutch and transmission hate me lol

What's up with stomping the dirt before u start? Is it just for traction?

Yes, your rear tire will hook up better when he dirt is tight, not loose. It reduces wheel spin.

The MX Factory. About what % of throttle do you recommend? Also, are you popping the clutch or letting it out about 80% until its ready. Because I have a 08 crf450r that loves to raise the front wheel.

+ed fujed Let it out until it’s almost ready. Don’t pop the clutch. % of throttle depends on terrain. If sandy or loam it could close to full throttle. If the dirt is super tacky and great grip, then back off the throttle a bit until you’re out of the gate. Make sure to keep your head and weight forward to prevent wheelies.

Any ideas to help me? I am definently scared of the front wheel going up! I usually start in first slow so I dont have any idea how to holeshot at all, but its basically my most important goal when roding a bike. So can anyone give me some tips on how to try it for the first time?

Hey I got a question. Every time I have actually tried a good launch which has only been a couple, I put the bike in second rev her up then drop the clutch. I’ve only tried it in 2nd also but I pretty much just loop out even though I feel that I’m pretty far up on that seat. Any advice?

I agree with everything except the both feet hanging out. I use to race back in the 80’s, I always started with my left foot on the pegs and the right on the ground. In a flash my right was on the pegs and my left foot ready to up shift and win the hole shot. Too much time is lost with having to pull both feet in and get them on the pegs or if somebody hits you, or you get squirrely, it could go bad. Rather have my feet on the pegs ASAP. Everything else was spot on though. Also I had a technique called power shifting it worked like a charm but was hell on the clutch and motor. You pin the throttle and keep it pinned pulling in the clutch quickly and slightly while up shifting to the first corner. No lag, just constant acceleration. It worked well but I wouldn’t recommend it.
