You often see more deer in one sit than I see all season in S. New England; so your comments on deer behavior are invaluable info. which never gets old. Nice job again.

When i track I equate beds next to browsing as gaining time. I compare and contrast track condition between feeding marks / tracks and bed exits tracks. This gives me an idea on whether or not i need to be stealthy or should i start running a track. Ive tracked 2+ miles in an hour, across beds and other signs that tell me how fast to go. These little things have helped me get on deer almost everytime i got out this year in the least densely populated herds in the lower 48. Ive consistently found herds and large bodied bucks within 1/4 mile of roadways, always within earshot. Wonder if it has something to do with road salt. Friend has photographs of bighorns licking the salt off vehicles.

@buck19
@buck19 5 жыл бұрын
Check out Rodney Elmer Mountain Taxidermy. They have top notch, no nonsense videos on tracking in the north east. The Salerno brothers hunt the ADKs and are a wealth of knowledge on tracking. The Big Buck Registry has awesome podcasts on back country hunts across the country. Only been on big game 4 years. Had beginners luck the first year with 3 deer. The next two years i spent wondering around, not seeing a single whitetail. Last summer i found all these public land youtube hunters that all have distinct strategies. Taking what i learned from YT and the local old timers i got myself in front of a good 40 or 50 back country deer. Now if i can stop looking down sooo much ill start connecting.

Maybe spring time you guys can check out some big woods deer where you have to deal with wolves coyotes bobcats bears . The deer just do act different. Plus if you pay attention to the wolves they will teach you where to hunt and how to hunt it drive it. I still kill big bucks and I get bucks on cam that have made it to 10.5 years old in my area. Deer don't walk into the wind they walk with wind at there backs more to smell predator may be back trailing them . They don't bed in low area much most the time it's on points nobs . I think the apps now days help alot with big woods bucks. I been using sat poster picture s for years that I would carry with me and mark down sign other hunters stands and parking area they use to go in. It's why I've always had good luck hunting animals will tell you when it's a deer moving by or bear bobcat wolves teach us how to hunt and where to hunt . The grasses you talked about I would bet have alit of good minerals sucked up if in low water type places. One more food sources no one speeks of is fresh maples leaves big woods deer love and mushrooms is never talked about. big woods deer move more during day time by me also 10 -2 Nov 4-12 is best every year my year from deer say it's never off my alot a day or 2 tops. I've killed 17 plus year old bear and a 9.5 year old buck so feel very blessed over the year. I got the 9.5 220lbs field dressed north Central area Lincoln county and some 6 year olds and lots if 3s . Really don't see alot of me and sign can be hard so I most the time just scout for does bucks are very isolated in wolf country big woods. So I'm only hunter for couple miles anyone want to take the challenge I'm willing to open up my area I Nick named little Canada because the deer area looks very close to the big woods to my north . My deer have those pine/cedar heads that turn red to orange color and horns are chocolate color . Good luck be safe 2019 season everyone

I personally know about the mushrooms. Have them on trail cam and have notice other mushrooms nibbled on. I was following massive tracks that came up to a tree with reishis 10ft up with deer teeth marks.
@buck19
@buck19 5 жыл бұрын
Dunno if the photo link works, but the camera is looking forward at eye level. Im 6'1" for perspective, you can see teeth marks on all these. They were too old and tough for eating, but these reishis have all sorts of health benefits plus proteins and sugars... scontent-lga3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/fr/cp0/e15/q65/47240892_10158620902818018_5435361291537481728_o.jpg?_nc_cat=107&efg=eyJpIjoidCJ9&_nc_eui2=AeHcivTzyJy5Ss6FQePjeaq6leiH78TJ1-j8sN3DG-ICb0CGZGQbGUskNBO5JwDseshYpiGLVatFkb0KnwLedLgKlRbWaMpZiQjZNdHAxCSWbA&_nc_ht=scontent-lga3-1.xx&oh=06f11cab2fb5c4a4b972be323f5490b9&oe=5D241A44

@@buck19 it worked thank for sharing your picture one other sign you guys should try to share is if you are lucky and find a scent post yes there is one rub in the middle like a hub that the will have a rub most time around size of your thigh that will be rubbed on all sides plus there will be many small to medium size rubs and scrapes with in about 30 foot circle of the rub. It's the best rub and it's the golden ticket for pictures of every buck that walks by it will rub it all season long even doe will rub there head glands on it . It's the phone book of your deer in that 1 square mile or more or less depends of alot of factors . I've only found 2 in my 30 plus years and hunted one . Best day when I hunted over that rub. Had 4 bucks hit before first light and 5 more before I killed a 2 year old . Yes I was much younger then and I was happy with the buck I killed . The real point to that hunt is that I understood the sign and didn't just look at the rub like it was a bucks travel rub line with a one direction rub . I found it identify my sign was a true scent post and hunted it with results and that's what it's all about. I'm the guy that doesn't like to stop and turn around if I see a ridge or edge when scouting I just go and go marking down every chance I get on my SAT poster with lam and a marker . So I mark other hunters stand locations and there starting point they use to go to the stands I also mark every deer I've killed or others and scrapes trail. Everything wee have now on hunting app . People that know me say I'm part wolf deer because how I can snort like a deer and grunt with my voice and learn from the wolf on how to hunt my deer and where to hunt. I've never hunted the same spot year to year always looking fine tuning my tactics . Deer are not hard to learn or kill if we just slow down Liston watch scout scout and yes scout . If hunters want to do well on public land in Wisconsin they learn to adapt put in the time scouting and when I say work scout that means when the season ends the boots are already doing the walking . I have had deer and bears that I have on cam for 8 sometimes 10 years of age sake buck on cam year after year it's almost to the point now I'm more into learning the old big woods bucks and getting pictures of them then I am wanting to kill them because I always feel a little sad when I kill one of my local bucks I call them reason the chase and learning is over . And then it's the next 3.5 and up starts. I've learned many things in my area that I don't ever see or hear shows talk about like my deer stopped bedding in low area or swamp and now only bed on knobs or high points and more knobs on ridges and when they leave there beds they walk with wind at there back don't rub or scrape alot . I think this is all a direct result from the wolves. My deer all do the 2 step I call it. They walk 2 then stop Liston and Liston then walk stop . And branch snaps and they will go straight to high alert and start walking at the area thebranch broke to see if it's a predator. Down in the farm country I also hunt in marathon county they don't do anything like that. Keep up the great video. O I have all my hunts on tape maybe one of you could help me transfer my tapes to a CD . I have my 9.5 year old 220lbs dressed on it I don't want to loose and a really cool bear kill where you can see my bullets vapor trail and the shock wave when it hits with a crazy blood loss. And the death moan. Like to make sure my grand kids some day can see there grandpa was a ok hunter and got some ok video solo . I wish I got my 17 year old 10 m so I should say 18 bear one more story of chipmonks told me to take my climbing stand to on my last couple days of season to get the old timer of the woods . Yes I'm a Apex hunter. I really like how you guys keep it real .
