How to Hydro-Seed [ Hydro seeding 101 ]

Join us as we wrap up an Allen's Demolition project by Hydro seeding!! A quick how to tutorial on hydro seeding!
By Request - A rough Cost Breakdown
Seed:
1 bag of contractors seed - $99.00
1 Bag of all Green seed - $69.00
1 bag of fertilizer - $25.00
1 bag of neutralime - $32.00
1 container of Floc Lock - $26
4 Bales of hydro mulch - $20.00 each - $80.00 total
Rental of the machine - $267.00
Total time involved picking up, mixing, spraying, and returning unit..... maybe 6 hours
Total cost = $598 + 6 hours of time!! This was only about a 1/4 acre lot (or less). It gets much cheaper per acre the more acres you do at a time!

Nice video. After hydro seeding after how many weeks will you apply fertilizer (they say to apply starter fertilizer after 5 to 6 weeks). Do you mow and then apply the fertilizer or just apply it on the grass since again you’ll need to wait till 8 weeks to mow the lawn? By then the fertilizer would have anyway settled right?

Thats an awesome question! I actually dont know the answer to that. We only hydro seed lots after we tear down houses. The maintenance and up keep is up to the property owner once we leave, we dont come back to fertilize!

Hydroseeding is done on new subdivisions and demolition projects to suppress the dust. The dust is pain in the provervbial if not suppressed.

I know this is a couple years later but I just now discovered hydroseeding and just want to ask if you feel like hydroseeding would be a good small business to start that could maybe eventually develop into a larger business or is hydroseeding something that would be better utilized as a sub component of a landscaping business? Currently interested in starting my own business, just unsure of what route to take

Most people I know that do this, do it as part of a landscaping business. I am not sure you could make ends meet if all you did was hydroseed?

@@MorlenKennels I have the same thinking as well. I’ve heard of people having businesses dedicated just to hydroseeding from other KZfaq videos, but I agree with making ends meet. Someone would need a lot of properties continuously to keep a steady revenue, but eventually, someone would run out of properties in a localized area and would need to expand their area of work. My best advice is to talk to the people that you buy the seed from. They are a great resource and can give you all the quantities that you will need! My local seed store sales man actually came out to my first jobsite and walked me through the process in person!

Didn't see anything wrong I been hydroseeding for 8 yrs now except we have a 4000 gal truck. I didn't see any tackifier but maybe the mulch had it in there already. Good video
