How To Identify A Nissan CD009 Transmission

Identifying a Nissan CD009 transmission is important if you want to go fast without breaking parts. Nissan offered these transmissions in the 350Z, G35 and now the 370Z. two flavors: weak and NOT weak. The CD009 is the stronger of the two, and making sure you purchase the correct one is important for your project car. The 2J-Z will be running this transmission behind it in true stock form.
I called Larry at Sound Performance who built a 1,200+ horsepower 350Z that saw multiple 9 second passes (as seen in this video) and he informed me that the CD009 transmission he used behind that motor never gave him even one issue. “Shift intelligently” was one of his pieces of advice.
This transmission is a great option for both the guy on a budget or something building a seriously high horsepower car. The Toyota transmission options are getting both expensive and hard to find, so with this being an option, you really can’t be the value. Back in 2009, My 2003 350Z’s 3rd gear started to grind every time I put it in gear. Even though it was out of warranty, Nissan sent me a brand new CD009. I had to install it but was so happy they hooked me up. My Z only had 25k miles on it so I think that’s why they did that. It’s still shifting great to this day with 410HP.

I have an 05 that ended up needing a new transmission, and since it was covered under warranty, I told the dealership to just go ahead and get a CD009 from an 06. It bolts right on and 8 months later it's still doing great

The transmission will never have a cd009 stamped on. But from my research the CDO#2 stamp is a cd009 but the CDO#1 is a cd008 out of the earlier modles.

I've heard one of these will fit in a Titan? Might buy my dad's and the auto in it may be going through the beginning of the end right now... if it goes out I want to put a manual in it and if the CD009 fits I'll use one of those. I know the gearing is different, but you could just start in 2nd as 1st and have a 5 speed with a low gear.

So icalled concept z told me to try there website 3$ vin check. Got confused so i called up nissan and they told me the vehicles date which was 06-04 . Picked this transmission up for 500$ and was told it was the stronger version. Says cd01. Basically jst like yours. Did research and saw that if it was a 06 month model and up its the stronger version?. Any extra help jst to have 1 more tip if its possibly true ??

Buyer here! I'm so glad I found your video! on the middle of picking up an R154+clutch+flywheel for $1400 and I'm totally torn now after realizing this CD009 setup potential. So, with that said, I love to buy that off of you! hit me up!

I've had quite a few people ask me if it's still for sale, but it's already sold :( However, lucky for you, if you head on over to your local automotive recycler, they can hook you up. Also check out the database on Car-Part.com....the inventory isn't as great there but it's a start!

can't blame them for buying it off you. I'm trying to project out an IS300 build with, hopefully, this CD009 setup. any tips. I'm hearing people having problems with getting it to fit. Also, any suggestions on J1,J2,J3 bell housing from an automatic from the 2JZ's and the ease, or lack there of, in the customizing invloved to make it work? long story short I'm super interested in pursuing this route and looking at all the routes a trying to avoid all the pitfalls. totally love your content ma . very inspiring

Ephraem Sudario Man I'm not familiar with the automatic transmission stuff. As far as getting a CD009 in your IS I think your main concern will be clearance in your runner and building a transmission mount. The rest should be easy.

When your car makes so much power that you have to ask your 2 friends to come sit in your trunk while dynoing so the car doesn't fly out of the bench all of a sudden

Markus Andrejeff There are a bunch of batteries in the trunk as well. All the weight on the back of the car is to prevent the tires from loosing traction when under load on the dyno rollers. The ratchet straps are what keep the vehicle in place on the dyno.

Chewy Coronado Is it a 5 speed swap? SC400s only came with automatics. SC300s were offered with 5 speeds though, but they aren’t common.

Do it. There's a guy on KZfaq that has cd009 on the v8 1uzfe turbo. Putting done 800ft/tq. I'm doing one at the moment. 90 to 94 1uz is strongest. Can hold close to 1000hp in stock form.

Just to be clear (sorry for my ignorance),I'm planning on buying a 370z 2010-onwards and either 2jzgte swap it or keeping it n\a with a cammed ls3. My question is can I be 100% sure that I have the strong cd009 if I buy a 370z 2010+?

The cd009 is the revised version of the CD00x series it is used in 350z(HR) and in 370z( all models)

I have simple question. CD009 fat transmission will fit to skinny propeller shaft tunnel 240z? I do similar thing swap motor to BMW M70 V12. The motor fit with 71c transmission to 240z Without cut any part of it. But, 71c transmission is not strong enough to catch up 300 hp+ May be. So I thinking install CD009 350z transmission. But as I look at it, back of CD009 is fat and I thought was not fit. Do you have any suggestion for me? I do not wanna cut 240z body. Thank you.

Yes it fits, the ears for the factory transmission mount must be cut off though.

Proper_Ty There's a ton of these transmissions in Texas. Just check your local salvage yards and engine sellers. Might have to go on a small statewide hunt, but they are there.

@@2JZdatsun idk how i didn't notice your response. thank you. So its more likely to be a cd009 if its out of a 370z then ? I still havent installed it. and im doing a bit more research before i do. im confused cuz from what im reading up if it says CD8#1 ( which mine does) that its a weaker transmission. But then does that mean the 370z's also had the weaker transmissions in some models ?

what gear ratio were you going to run?

The twin turbo R230 differential is 3.692:1, CD009 ratios are: 1st: 3.784 2nd: 2.324 3rd: 1.624 4th: 1.271 5th: 1.000 6th: 0.794 Final: 3.538

Im wondering this too since ill be running a 370z motor and im unsure if i could link a 009 up to a 370z or if i have to go with the fsr

@@detailunit2397 i may be wrong but i dont think they should have any problems bolting up. Atleast for me im 2jz but i got a adapter set to run the cd009 transmission and it specifically says " 350z/370z/g35/g37 6 speed transmission to ANY JZ engine " this would imply to me that the bolt patterns on the bell housings are infact the same. unless this company knows nothing and making it up.

@@CarsnStuff i did some researching amd apparently the bell housings are different. Maybe with your kit it doesn't matter but since im mounting up to the VQ block it may be an issue.
