Have you ever bought an engine from someone and wondered if it was what they said it was? I'll show you where to find the casting numbers to look it up for yourself. It only takes a couple minutes to verify the motor you're looking at.

Excellent video. I'm helping my neighbor sell her husbands immaculate1956 Corvette. He passed a few months ago, but was a master body and custom man, 50 years experience, and did a full frame off restoration, creating a museum piece. The engine however is not original, and before selling it I needed the engine ID. You sir, just showed me how to do that. I also found the same online site you show in this video. Thank you.

That was incredibly helpful. I have access to a free engine, wanna turn the crank and also compression & leak test, and see exactly what I am dealing with before I extract it. Thanks. Needed that.

I got into it with a guy about my motor was a chevy 283cid, he showed me the two letters "HB" located on the front of the motor , driver side, just to right of the timing chain cover. Looked it up in an old school Clinton's book, and it said it was a 327 high performance with a manual 3 or 4 speed transmission. 🤔

Yes, the Rat Rod is back. I like the steering chain set up. A lot of Hot Rod builders use Chevrolet Vega steering box. Thanks Jeff.

This is an interesting setup but seems to work pretty good. There's a little bit of slop in it but not too bad. A larger tensioner, or a slotted hole, would take care of that. This car has now gone back home. I've had quite a bit of fun tinkering on it though. Makes me want to get some sort of project to work on.

Where you said cnv represents a 2 bolt main it says bbls at the top of that column. Doesn't that mean 2 barrel carburetor?

I'm also in that area! I'm still trying to find a car I did the interior on for a customer I subcontracted for... never got the pics of it! 😔. Had I a smart phone back then...would have been good...but alas. Not too many people can see how I made a headliner for a 50's Chevy with flames in the healiner...2 toned.

That's not always the case the 67-68 Camaro 350' SS block shows as a large journal 327 block but the front # on the block shows its a 350 Camaro /nova the 3970010 block just means its a 4 inch bore /first 6 months of production were 4 bolt main blocks

Great information! So I had a starter go bad and thought the car had a 350.. starter was too big and the bolt holes didn’t lineup. So I got a 305 starter. And it went fine. However, the numbers on my block and the front plate casting numbers are saying it’s a 350 from 1971. I’m confused

i have a unicorn engine that i cant figure out anything about its believed to be a GMC 350 V8 from 1972 the engine vin is V0330TND its clean and clear as day no mistaken it and I'm not blind I've had 3 people look at it and confirm it says TND and cant figure it out, the casting numbers on the back are completely missing its just blank as well as the serial number in front of the V0330TND

I have on driver's side OM 3782870. Googled that and got 57-63 Chevy Corvette 327 2 bolt. Passenger side is hard to read the 1st letter. It's either E, or F, the rest is 06I5HC. Seems your examples have 8 characters and I have 7... I've tried every combination, all to no avail... Any suggestions? 11.1.22

Snap some clear pictures of both stamps and go on the Corvette forms. They will be able to help you answer it quickly.

010 is a high nickle block.Not 2 bolt or 4 bolt ,But a good block as I have both.

There is no such thing as a "high nickel" block. Those are a myth.

Just count the spark plugs.

If you can't tell that, by looking, you shouldn't open the hood.

Numbers don't mean anything! There are so many modifications that can be done..

With so many different ls versions , the motor has to match the computer and the truck , sometimes you don't have to reprogram the computers , some have Dod , or afm , or vvt ..you get a factory stock truck in the shop that someone swapped and couldn't get it running , youll need to know what it claims it is , then look for mods
