This video is 2 years old and I just came across it. Good tips! That dog is still "well behaved" though!! I'd love to see a video of training a dog from the beginning.

Blake- you are so sweet. Excellent enunciation and variation in pitch. I love to listen to you talk. Your advice is very logical and useful! I've made some of those mistakes grooming my standard P. This helps so much Thank you so much.

Simply placing/touching my hand under the belly area will get the dog to stand & continue to stand. You’ll have to repeat it but it does train the dog to stand. And only praise & reward when dog is actually behaving well

Hey Blake! I have a question. I have my personal poodle. He has been groomed regularly and consistently. He has some grooming manners that I would like to fix- mainly, he does like to dance or “spin” if he doesn’t like something. He does not like to stand for long periods, such as when I am shaving and especially when I am scissoring. I do not encourage this and I’ve used a belly band but I would really like to work with him so that he understands that it is not acceptable and pretty dangerous behaviour. I feel like this was established because I allowed him to sleep or lay down on the table for extended periods as a puppy. I’ve also broken down the grooming session into smaller sessions in order to make it enjoyable. So far I’ve chalked it up to his terrible twos. Obviously it’s worse when we are in a busy salon vs one on one. For the most part he is good, but his attempts to sit or spin so he can look at scissors is wearing on me. I always move to the side that I am working on.. I’d really love any advice. He is very good motivated.. but once food is removed, he is back to being bratty…

The very very last thing you want to do is go into picking up a dog without saying hello first. Always greet the dog, allow them to sniff you. Can you imagine going to the dentist and sitting in the chair, then someone you've never met before coming in, saying OPEN YOUR MOUTH, and then going at it? Don't almost get bit, take it slow.
