Good message overall. I think (hope) that everyone will reject the notion that mastery is achievable in one month (even if serious focused work is done consistently), but the valuable real message behind that generalization is that people should stop hoping to be great instantly, like you said at the beginning.

I've decided to spend 3 weeks with only drawing basic heads at very basic angles, and you know what...it helps me a lot, i was so depressed and lost as to what to learn first, focusing on one thing and not worrying about lacking skill in another aspects of art is definitely a good thing, the only problem is that procrastination, though it is good to take a break now and then, just as long as you keep your passion high and keep practicing, you'll see a lot of improvements, also DON'T be discouraged or saddened if your drawings end up looking like crap, i felt like this when i tried drawing hair a few days...you'll learn eventually

Bro, this isn’t a problem for me, I just go to the focus farming spot (My bed) immediately afterwards. Seriously though, this is some valuable information.

My only competition is my involuntary KZfaqr making content as now my teacher. I'm learning portraits rn and only that. I draw along with top body, full body, drawings but only draw the head and shoulders because the body is easier and I don't want good perspective I want perspective that is good enough (for me). I'm only drawing portraits rn. My tip to drawing humans is to pickup a pencil and do it. Art block doesn't exist if you don't allow it to exist. (Edited for 1 bit of grammar)

i want to start off by saying this is a seriously great video and you make a super accurate point about the benefit of narrowing ones focus when learning, rather than diffusing it across several different fundamentals. its also great to see your progress and example of the results of this in practice. i do have one slight but respectful disagreement with one thing you said that is multi-pronged: you encourage those learning to avoid doing so digitally and only practice/study traditionally, as "digital is cheating." this left a bad taste in my mouth because it sounds like snobby traditional elitism that i saw all the time early in my art journey and also has the same vibe as those that say using reference is cheating. additionally, it reminds me of those art teachers who tell students they shouldn't draw in an anime style and should only draw in a western classical or hyper realistic styles. another part of the comment that rubbed me the wrong way, and perhaps I'm misunderstanding you, but it seems like you implied that those learning working digitally can't learn from their mistakes and improve and can only do so by working traditionally. I believe someone learning can learn just as effectively by learning digitally as they could by working traditionally (unless their goal is to master working traditionally) apologies for that little gripe. I only wanted to address it up because the people that will gain the most from your video are those earlier in their art journey and such a comment will cause unnecessary doubt about their ability to learn if they want to do so working digitally. otherwise, again, this was a great, great video!

Yeah, I think I might have come across like a traditionalist snob😂 My main field is digital art, I personally found my self getting better at digital art when I practice traditionally! I get more confidence from pen and paper. I’ve had some problems in the past with the undo button, and spending hours not getting anywhere digitally, because I don’t get punished. There is nothing wrong with your comment, this was just a misunderstanding!💪 Thanks for leaving this comment! It’s good for criticism, and it helps other artists that may misunderstand🙌

@@GrimTheArtist Fair enough, cheers! I figured it was just a misunderstanding on my part! 🙏 I do totally get the confidence aspect of drawing with pen and paper. it's been a while since I've done so, but I do feel that kinesthetically, drawing with pen and paper definitely does feel way nicer! I'm very fortunate to have avoided an addiction to ctrl+z -- as someone with OCD, I already get in brutal, tedious loops by doing regular everyday tasks, so if I had fallen into that trap it would take me ages to finish anything ever 😴

Yes but, erasing with an eraser is not instantanate nor illimited, can be messy or damage the paper and sometimes you just can get the line out completely so you are less tempted to overuse it for every single line that are not 100% perfect. The best to fight perfectionnisme and fear of failure is a good old pen. For improving pure drawing skills it is adviced to do pen/pencil & paper. But, if you REALLY want to use digital, forbide you to use ctrl+z for practice sketching ;)

@@Xiout_art-bd2vp i know what youre talking about regarding the overuse of ctrl+z for every line that isnt 100%. I see this all the time when watching some artists (sinix actually being one of them) and it actually drives me nuts watching it, i cant imagine the misery of being stuck in that kind of habit. it would suck so much of the fun out of drawing. so yeah, i agree, definitely limit erasing/use of ctrl+z

@@Xiout_art-bd2vpdigital lets you make mistakes faster, it's way more efficient for learning skills and experimenting. No money wasted on tools and it's quicker to put what you've learned to use repeatedly. i do prefer the look of traditional but digital is also useful, if you do digital do traditional as well

Digital lets you make mistakes quicker and cheaper, if you use it intentionally, it's a better learning tool. I don't think you're in the place to be giving this advice yet
