I've only gotten into cornhole for a little over a year now, and I actually really enjoy practicing. My family and friends, who aren't into cornhole, thinks I'm kinda nuts for throwing these silly bags for sometimes an hour, all by myself. Perhaps I am, but, whatever, I just enjoy really enjoy it!

Hi Mike, I love your videos. What do you think about someone transition from complete backyard underhand thrower to the flat toss? I was wondering about shortening the distance to say 17-20 feet and then moving the boards back as my accuracy improves. When I try the flat bag toss I tend to go way right/left at 27 feet. Thanks.
@MikesBags
@MikesBags Жыл бұрын
That is a great way to transition. I have recommended that exact plan to others before. The other thing you can do is take the board away and just throw the bags on the ground. That way you can focus on the flat bag and nothing else.

Hey Mike, great advise. I love Scoreholio. I do have a question for ya. I bought a set of boards online. They were completely built, but never finished (sanded, poly ect.), so I took them to work so my maintenance crew can finish them for me. Do you have any recommendations on how to practice at home while my boards are at work?
@MikesBags
@MikesBags Жыл бұрын
You can practice airmails. Find something that is about the same size as the hole and set it 30 feet away. Just be sure that the edges are smooth or you will destroy your bags. The other thing you can do is mark a spot about 28 feet away and practice hitting it. That's about where you want your bag to land on the board.

Mike, I love your channel and I've actually patterned my throwing style after yours. I've been playing cornhole for about a year, but I'm still averaging a 4/5 ppr, even with throwing at least 100 practice bags a day. How long have you been throwing and how long did it take for you to get your average up above an 8/9? Thx!
@MikesBags
@MikesBags Жыл бұрын
I've been throwing for a long time but I've taken it more seriously for about 3 years now. Where are you losing points each round? Is it bags going off the board? If so, are they off the back or the side or short? Or are you consistently putting 4 bags on but struggling to get them in the hole?
@stevenfontenot5893
@stevenfontenot5893 Жыл бұрын
@Mike's Bags My biggest issue is left to right accuracy. I recently purchased a set of skinny boards in the hopes they will force me to increase my accuracy. I'll slide 3 bags right up the middle into the hole, then the next round I'll throw 3 bags off to the right and left sides.
@MikesBags
@MikesBags Жыл бұрын
Do you step when you throw? Obviously, there are inconsistencies in your throw. Whether it's the step, stance, arm swing, release, grip, target, etc. The first step is to find the problem. My recommendation is to record yourself throwing from different angles. After each throw, give the camera a thumbs up for a good throw or a thumb to the side the bag goes off. Then watch the video of the throws and see if you can find what is different about the misses. Small differences with the throw make a big difference at the board. For example, if you release the bag a 1/4 inch to the left of where you should, it could be a foot or more off by the time it gets to the board.

Mike me and my brother are competitive and we just started corn hole this summer and he has his throw down pretty good. Im struggling to get my throw down. I try spinning and I my bags are left to right all the time I have to aim for the edge of the board for it might spin to the right and goes off the board. How can I make adjustments to get my bag to hit middle of board and sink them?
@MikesBags
@MikesBags Жыл бұрын
This is tough to answer without seeing the throw. The orientation of the bag in the air is the most likely reason that your bag is going left to right across the board. If the bag is angled with the left side lower than the right, it will kick/cut across the board when it lands. Slower materials will kick more than faster so changing to a faster bag will reduce the kick across the board but it will probably lead to the bag flying off the back of the board. Typically, a harder thrown bag will kick more. So try adding a little more loft on your throw to get the bag to land softer. You may have to land the bag a little deeper on the board to compensate for the softer throw. The best solution is to work on a flatter bag in the air. Hope this helps.

@@MikesBags thanks Mike I appreciate your feed back. I understand what your saying im going pull the corn hole boards out and try to do what your saying. The boards im using are old and have a horrible bounce when bags hit the board. so I ordered some new heavy duty boards and I hope the bounce isn't a factor. I did try lifting and it did work but im trying get the throw down first.
@MikesBags
@MikesBags Жыл бұрын
To get rid of the bounce, you need to add a 2X4 support in the middle of the board. The pro style boards will have at least one brace, some of them have 2 braces.

@MikesBags
@MikesBags Жыл бұрын
Yes, the boards are 27 ft apart. Several things that could help you. Make sure your bags aren't landing too far up the board. Try to land them about a foot from the bottom of the board. If that's not it, then you may need to put more loft on your throw so that they land softer. Lastly, you may want to try a slower bag. Hope some of that helps.
