We have gotten a lot of questions from beginners on how to improve their lettering and calligraphy, especially their consistency, so we decided to start a new Instagram series called #LoveleighLessons. There is no "right" or "wrong" way to do brush lettering, but our goal is to teach you the fundamentals through specific examples of "do's and dont's" so that you can make your lettering more consistent. You can find each letter individually at our Instagram, but for convenience, we put them all together in one KZfaq video.
We love the quote "Learn the rules like a pro so you can break them like an artist." Once you understand the basics, you can experiment with different styles and make it your own! We hope you enjoy this A to Z calligraphy alphabet tutorial.

Thank you, I noticed I did some of these mistakes. But with some letters I even liked the "don't version" more than the right one, hehe. I guess it sometimes depends on the personal taste. I have really problems with s, k, z and b, and you taught me another way, so thanks and keep up the good work! :)

Hi Denise! Totally fine if you like the "wrong" one better for the letter style!! The "right" ones are just correct in that they will be consistent when all 26 of them are written that way :) So glad to hear this helped with s, k, z, and b. Yay! I love that you just cut straight to the chase and don't spend a majority of the time rambling like most others do!! Hell by the time they finally get to the actual tutorial I move on to another bc I can't stand listening to someone spend so much time chattering when I'm eager to learn! Hahah we are so glad you appreciate that! We definitely agree... it's nice to have some verbal detail on occasion, but we usually like to just be straightforward and cut the clutter

Agreed, "s" is a difficult letter to write. For capital letters, we just posted a new video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gpiWetR00MvOlas.html This video shows two styles of capital letters, rather than showing do's and dont's. The reason we chose to do that instead is because capital letters have a lot more freedom and variation, and there aren't quite as many rules. Hopefully the video is still helpful to you!

I've been on a letter kick these last few days and I have to say this video is like my holy grail! It's so easy to see each stroke for each letter, which so far has been hard to find. You can also clearly see how each of the basic strokes come together for each letter. I've been trying to find as much as I can online for free and this video is going to help me *so much* both to get better and to save some cash. Thanks again!

Lovely video, clear and simple, I found it very helpful as I am a beginner in this art. It´great to start learning already keeping the proper manner in mind. By the way, I loved the silence in it, no need for talking loads and no annoying background music, just the lovely sound of the pen rubbing on the paper and birds chirping!

I always do the swoopy line before all of my letters and I also keep them slanted slightly to the right. Thank you for reassuring me that I’m a noob that did not look into modern calligraphy tutorials :’)

That's a good point! The right side is based on the traditional letter forms :)

I just wanted to say that I have been working on my lettering for a few months now, starting with likely the worst handwriting you my have EVER seen, most times i wasnt even able to read what I ha written it was so bad. Then I decided I wanted to do my own Christmas Cards this year and started learning calligraphy in various scripts and settled with copperplate to begin with. I have made some substantial improvement and my friends and coworkers and family members have been singing high praises but I myself have just not felt like I was there yet, Still wasnt even sized and consistent letters forget about it. As a whole i didnt look bad but picking out the mistakes was all I have been able to see. Then I found this video browsing for improvement tips for the 1000th time and I have to say, I dont know exactly why, but following along with THIS video, has finally put me ti to that turning point of really polishing off my letters and making them all the same time and time again, like little clones of each other, and Im thrilled. I almost gave up on the entire Christmas Card endeavor but thanks you YOU I think I may be able to do this after all!!! SO THANK YOU!!!

@@LoveleighLoops There are also people who have been doing lettering for years, and many of their letters resemble those of the wrong part, I think it also depends a lot on the style of their letters, right? And thanks for helping me improve some letters💓

@@idk-rf1yi Exactly! :) There is no "right" or "wrong" way to do brush lettering, but our goal is to teach you the fundamentals through specific examples of "do's and dont's" so that you can make your lettering more consistent.
