This presenter is organized and clearly focused on his audience actually learning and improving as opposed to just showing off pictures, promoting or selling. Great job!! A much appreciated addition to the B&H collection of presentations.

As a Canon shooter since 1975, an ex-teacher, product designer and former racing cyclist I loved this. Great presentation, well prepared and with a good sense of humour. Look forward to more videos like this from B&H and Eric! Well done!

I’ve only been shooting for a couple of years & have learnt everything to date by either reading books or on youtube & have to say this video has been a massive help. I now have a good understanding of composition, distortion, compression, leading lines & the use of colour effectively. Great video Eric, have just subscribed so keep them comming. I primarily shoot wildlife so any future videos you could recommend would be appreciated. Many thanks. Mark.

Great photos and presentation, I was just wondering if in your videos you could add the settings you use on your camera to get these photos. I’m a budding photographer and it would handy to be able to produce photos similar, just wanting know how you take the photos to being with. Especially how you had all of the air balloons in focus including the back one :)

Hey Eric, do you ever teach down this way (I'm in Portsmouth, Virginia)? You mention a lot of places along the coast that I've been, and I'd love to sit in on a seminar or class if you're ever down this way to teach.

The bare-tree 'block' in 1:29 isn't as effective cause you see the whole tree/object so it is just an element of the photo. To be effective as a block only part of the object should be in the frame as in 15:33, 27:56, 1:15. Also the shot in 11:53 (shown in several places throughout the video) is not just any odd framing but dark (foreground), light (middle-ground), dark ('sky'/top part). This is a particular way of framing that can be accomplished just with light as often used by the classics. In this particular instance the leaves/branches act as the dark top part/'sky' and it is very nice that one can see their silhouette.

The pic at 40.32 does not have "problems" if it's a travel/vacation pic. The signs shows where she is. It's actually the signs that tell half the story.

The picture was taken to demonstrate the point that was made but yes, there are many ways to look at an image and come to different conclusions.

A pretty harsh comment on the video, "How to improve your photography instantly"... 1 hour 29 minutes long", and some pretty harsh feedback from the group. My thought... TONS of great information included here but anyone who teaches, (especially anyone who teaches adults) will tell you that our ability to sit and absorb information doesn't come anywhere near 90 minutes. I "think" this may have been what Mr. Hydrox was trying to say.

Nevermind Eric, I've been in photography now for a little while and am really past the basics but still find lectures such as yours insightful. People can listen to lessons basically while doing work around the house etc. Funny how an hour and a half is long for a lecture but not to watch reality shows, blockbuster films etc. :) Good job Eric, you are a great teacher

@ericstoner8635

Christopher, My main "go to" lenses are the 70-200 2.8L IS II, the 135L 2.0 the 200 2.0L IS and the 16-35 2.8L II. Lenses are an important part of composition but it's only a part of the equation.
