Why has Improvisation been erased from classical music, and is it now time to bring it back.
In todays live stream we explored this topic with some powerful tools for improvisation on the piano.
We also discussed the 21st Century Piano Student and 4 powerful pillars that a piano student can use to structure their practice with powerful results.
lcsp.samcart.com/products/the...
These 4 pillars are fully explored in the LCSP Complete Musican Program, which comes with a special early extra support package for all new members expiring on the 19th of May.
We also have a limited edition self-study-only coupon code available for this course, you can enquire via our website www.contemporaryschoolofpiano.com or email us directly admin@contemproaryschoolofpiano.com

Wow that was brilliant… even that simple wandering away trick when doing the Chopin exercise! Thank you. That was so much fun. My dream is to learn how to improvise like Dudley Moore would on the piano, I’m thinking Beyond the Fringe. (I’m a classical pianist who’s been exploring!)

Love the chromatic descending changes in the Chopin improv. Chromatic changes like that are so beautiful (and you made it easy). You are speaking my language about sponaneity. I lost mine, but I can hear the difference when I play from music, and when I don't. The music is free when you're not just robotically playing from a page.

It's a great question -- how the European tradition of art music lost the practice of improvisation. I'm very down with what you said. When one has the score -- basically a text -- but little or no aural or bodily experience of the music to begin with -- which happens when sheet music becomes a dominant form of distribution -- the teacher becomes the "priest" who interprets its meaning and -- more importantly -- the text becomes canonical and unchangeable. The music is often great -- even transcendent -- but the text will not get you to where it came from -- that is, someone singing or playing an instrument, alone or with others.

Can you explain how we can play a chord on the right and another on the left and make a different chord
@TwelfthRoot2
@TwelfthRoot2 Ай бұрын
you can play part of the chord in one hand (like a root and an 8th) and then play the remaining notes in the other hand.

This was telling. Admittedly, though, I can't tell if that's a good thing or bad? Concerning improvisation, it felt like you kind of beat around the real issue. Me personally, I feel like music and math share a sure similarity: no matter how advanced you get, you never want to forget that one plus one equals two. That's what improv is for me. I think the best out there never lose touch with it. Or shouldn't. From that perspective, it isn't mysterious at all why the obvious isn't as publicly obvious.

Then, again, has it (relax and ease at the keybed) really gone anywhere? Seems very much alive, and well to me. Fortunately. Music Appreciation--at its finest.

No one ever said if it's a good thing or bad thing. It's the story and the history and the opportunity it brings.

The story? The history? Opportunity? What kind, and who for? I don't know about thee story, or thee history, but, it does appear to be at least one. Well, look at that? We're veering off a bit only to return to home again; e.g. the piano.

playing classical music without ever improvising (or at the very least playing a written piece so far from how it was written in so many different ways that it becomes close to improvised) would leave the written music to sound flat and practiced. you kinda have to bend and break it and make it your own before it starts to sound natural.
