Sure we all know that current and voltage are proportional, so doubling the current halves the voltage if that is what you need? the power remains the same. So if you have a 12 volt supply at 500 Ma and need a supply of 6 volts at 1 Amp go for it!

Please explain to me how just doubling that primary wire over can possibly raise the amperage. Because it's still the same length of wire, and the same amount of turns, since every turn is just doubled. Can you give me the Ohm's Law formula for that one? I would understand that.

Doubling up wires, also known as parallel wiring, can increase the capacity to carry electrical current, and therefore, more amps can flow through the combined wires Ohm's Law Equation : V = IR, where V is the voltage across the conductor, I is the current flowing through the conductor and R is the resistance provided by the conductor to the flow of current.

@@ashishsaru But isn't it just like using a thicker wire, half the length? Since they both terminate at the same place? That's not really parallel, I don't think.

That's not parallel. There's nothing plugged into it, so that is the circuit. All it has to do is be in the circuit. That actually is in series with the meter.
