Not sure which PS4 I had but my exterior and interior screw layout was slightly different. No biggie... researched on how to pull mine apart. Ultimately this antenna trick worked like a champ!! Thanks a lot!

Thank you so much! People should know a couple of things - My ps4 had security screws on it that did not allow my t8 screwdriver to work (I needed a special t8 bit that I did not have). I found a different guide that shows you how to remove these screws (use a flathead - they come out easy). This was by far the hardest step. - I share my ps4 to different rooms in my house. I was able to buy a splitter that allowed me to put antennas in 2 different rooms. My 10 year old ps4 now feels like new again - no more lag.

Next time you're going to put some tape inside something electronic i recommend using klapton tape rather than electircal tape (which isn't heat reistant and just peels of when it gets warm).

You are correct... the metal of the rack interfered too much so we had to separate it with the extension wire.

Great video! Is there any reason in particular you left the old bluetooth antenna inside the PS4? I've seen a similar video online where they removed the stock antenna completely and it looked pretty simple.

Could you theoretically do this to the controller, where you drill a hole and attach an antenna? Or ... could you buy a plug in bluetooth which slots into the front of the controller? Asking because I want to use the controller for an RC aircraft.

Where, specifically, did you make the hole for the antenna? Can you take a measurement of the distance it is from the back or front on the unit?

idk about measurements (assuming you haven't done this already, but by eyeballing it from his vid, it's looks like a straight line from the edge of the silver metal in the shell (the shell you'd be drilling into). if not a couple of centimeters out. Thats where I did it anyway.

I’m looking to do this modification as well. Quick question though... Do you have a link or description for the long extension you showed toward the end of the video? I’ve got the antenna and 12 inch cord, but am going to mount the antenna away from my A/V rack (like you did). I’m looking for at least a 6 foot cable.

Nick did you have success with PS4 pro adding an antenna? I just got my PS4 pro had a PS3 previous and I find the media remote on the PS3 had a much better range the PS4 pro range sucks. Let me know how it worked out for you and if it's straight forward like this video

You cant do this just adding a long cable and 9dbi antenna, you should know antenna powers, you are losing power with that long cable and that long antenna. You should know power out put of the chip then design your antenna according to that. Idea is ok but design is not. I hope the next generation gaming consoles allow us to use wifi and bluetooth dongles. That will help really.

I need pretty "urgent" help. First world problems, ya know. Anyway, I have my PS4 in my Theater room. The furthest point I play from the console is about 20'. No problem. I also have the console routed to my bedroom, which is about 10' away from the console, BUT thats including 2 4in standard walls. The headboard is literally at the furthest the controller range reaches. So you almost have to have the controller at your face to play. I followed your tutorial. Liuckily it didn't affect anything negatively, but it didn't import the situation? you suggested an extension cable. can you be more specific? I went to frys, but no one had a clue. Also, I want to get a second antenna so that when I move the first antenna, I don't loose range diameter. What sort of splitter would I use? Or would this cause interference/feedback/delay? The reason I initially said "urgent", is because Kingdom Hearts 3 comes out in a matter of days, and I would really really like to have this all set up before it comes out.

OK, I thought the spinning was due to a low charge in my controller. I recently pulled out a antenna of a router I had because I wanted to increase the range on a Bluetooth speaker that's in my kitchen. Nope, Destiny comes first! Thanks!

Hi, i did this today and it worked fine for the first half hour then it went back to doing the same thing. Could it be that the cable i used it not good enough? I used the cable U.FL Mini PCI RP-SMA Pigtail WiFi Wireless Minipci RSMA 20CM With this antenna External RP-SMA 9 dBi gain dipole antenna from Alfa for indoor use. Model ARS-N19

Is it just regular coax cable you used to extend the antennae from the ps4 to the wall. I noticed in another comment you also purchased 12 inch rf cables. The antennae comes with 8 inch of the same version though correct?

I purchased the 12 inch cables because I wasn't sure 8 inches would work so I played it safe. Probably would have just fit. The coax is not regular coax, it's smaller format that fits the antennae

Hi, followed your tutorial step by step, but for some strange reason the controllers signal randomly cuts out and turns off. The connection to the PS4 seems to be worse than before. Am I supposed to be using a specific antenna? I’m not sure if this is the reason is for it not working. Does this method only work for specific versions of the PS4? I have a day one release version. Please help!

The antenna I purchased is pinned in the comments. Could it be a connection problem? Other's with the slim version have had this work so I'm not sure what the problem is.

I have the same issue aswell. Tried a 3dbi antenna, then switched to a 7dbi. The problem remains and for me the signal is worse then before.

Make sure you actually push down hard enough that it clicks in straight. Make sure it's not bent or pinched. I haven't yet done this to my ps4 yet but I'm going too. I have a 4hdmi in and out matrix and play on all tvs in the house. The ps4 is in a closet downstairs and I have to sit forward In bed to use it just not enough range. This will be amazing

If you're remote playing from a PC, then you need to pair your DualShock controller to your PC. If your PC doesn't have bluetooth, then buy a cheap dongle.

I'm going to attempt this - can you confirm something first? I thought the controllers were bluetooth, obviously they have some aspect of radio signal, or maybe they don't use bluetooth at all for connecting the system. Either way, can you confirm this tweak is not for improving the wifi networking at all, it's solely for the PS4's connection to the controller? Cheers!

Back to report this video appears to be fake news, or did not provide enough details...I performed this mod, and it did NOTHING to improve the distance that my controllers can operate from.

The controller antenna and the wifi's are in separate parts on the ps4, at least they are on the ps4 slim, i know coz i recently broke the controller antenna due to a fall and had to get it fixed.. if you want that for the controller get a second antenna for the controller and one for the wifi, the connector for both uses the same as in the vid

What type of extension cable is used? I would like to extend the range about 15m to my bedroom (through the roof) and was wondering what type of cable to buy or even if it can handle that distance. I also need to run a second antenna about 5m in the opposite direction to give signal to my living room, would I be able to connect an adapter which lets me connect 2 antenna? Thinking there may be some sort of issues with signal loss similar to HDMI over longer distance. (I have a central hub set up in a hallway closet with all A/V components in there if anyone was wondering).

I'm also curious about this. I have my PS4 in the living room, which obviously gets great expected signal strength. But I also want to be able to play in my bedroom, which has 2 walls between it and the console. so I guess 2 questions: 1. as @Evan Jury asked, what extension cable would this require to feed it from the PS4, up through the ceiling, and across to the bedroom. 2. Since we replaced the factory antenna with this one, does that mean that if I route it to my bedroom, then I'll just run into the same problem from my Livingroom? Is it an either/or situation? If that is the case, are there splitters for this sort of stuff so I could either use the factory antenna AND this one, or buy an additional antenna?

There's no free lunch, a higher gain antenna is more directional, I had a Netgear router where I replaced the 2 internal PCB antennas with 2 external ones and the coverage ended up being worst...no matter where I'm pointing the antennas, even tried a directional antenna to no available, went back to stock. One have to factor in losses in the longer cable and SMA connector. Free energy doesn't exist.

The controllers were the problem. They run off of a bluetooth type connection no wifi. That was the problem we were fixing. 😁

Burke Bunch I would love to play with my wireless controllers because my dog likes to run around the house and trip on the the wires. I have started to get these weird tingling/ burning sensations in my palms about a year ago while and after playing with Bluetooth controllers, (mostly on X box one S). I'm pretty sure it's the radiation that does it.. or maybe I'm just crazy. I get nothing while playing with my Nacon Revolution Pro PS4 controller that is Wired but when I play on my Xbox or with the Dualshock 4, it's almost like squeezing a bush of nettles..
