Andriy - what do you do about shipping cost? Nervous our customers will be annoyed that they have to pay for shipping again on the order as we have no way to merge these orders in our backend.

You can make the shipping for this product free and include that as part of the offer... For example, 25% plus free shipping. With this, you will be able to not overcharge your customers for shipping and you should be able to send this as one order on the backend because this is only valid for a few hours after the previous sale. So you should be able to package both products in 1 shipping.
