Thank you so much for this video. I was diagnosed with Type 1 at 40 years old 2 weeks ago and I've basically been walking blindly through all of this. I had put my first sensor on my stomach 10 days ago and I didn't like how much it bled - so I wanted to try the arm. I'm so thankful I found your video. I did it right along with you, and your helpful, real instruction helped me not feel so much anxiety. I got it done and it's now warming up! Thank you! I'm subscribing

@@DiabetesStrong I see that you use your arm, which I have always preferred with my Medtronic sensors, but I haven’t been on a Dexcom sensor for 5+ years. I’ve been waiting for my warranty to be up on my Medtronic 670 G system. When I was on Dexcom, I used my abdomen, but I much prefer my arm. Dexcom says that it shouldn’t be in a spot that you lay on, but obviously that’s not the case if it’s on your outer arm. Do you find that you have any trouble with that spot? I know this video is a year old, so I’m not sure if you’ll get this message or not but I’m starting my pump training tomorrow and I have to put my sensor in tonight. I will probably use my abdomen but much prefer the outer arm (in the past, I have anyway). Your video is great btw - easy to follow & I like how it’s done by a user & not a vid from Dexcom. Thanks so much! We have to stick together, right? ❤
@DiabetesStrong

@@robin31165 we absolutely are in this together! I've loved wearing it on my arm and haven't had any issues. But you're right, it's not (in the US) approved for wear on the arm. Interestingly enough the same sensor is CE marked for wear on the arm... Also, G7 will be approved for the arm and that will be commercially available on February 17th, so if you want to stay "on label" that sensor might be for you. I hope you'll be happy with the switch

Thank you very much. I was told nurse would show me but with covid I had no call and no nurse. Much more comfortable than the Medtronic that has a very deep needle that then is removed and a plastic wire stays. Much more accurate too. My favorite part. My fingers don’t burn all the time. Best of luck.

I was able to get my Freestyle Libre 2 to stick for 14 days by washing the skin, using a provided cleansing cloth and using alcohol. I also used Skin-Tac to make the area sticky. I have eczema so have to use lotion hence the washing, cleansing routine to remove lotion & dead skin. Did you ever find that skin oils or lotion wasn't removed just with the alcohol wipe and that affected long-term adhesion? I'm brand new to the Dexcom system and am just wondering about how good the adhesion is.

Congrats on your new Dexcom. What place is best is very individual. I get the best results on my arms but know others who prefer the stomach. It’s easier to see what you’re doing when you put it on the stomach, so I might be a good place to start with

I've been hesitant to insert on my arm since I've had multiple instances when I bleed too much from insertion on my stomach. I fear it might be worse if I try to insert on my arm where it is more taught and I have less fat compared to stomach. Have you had any issues with bleeding after insertion? I notice your arms are very toned!
@DiabetesStrong
@DiabetesStrong 2 жыл бұрын
I don't have a lot of issues with bleeding, but you're not alone, I know others who tend to bleed a lot. One trick is to ice the area first (for example with an ice cube). But bleeders are annoying, when I do bleed I find that my reading often aren't as good

@DiabetesStrong
@DiabetesStrong Жыл бұрын
I use a glue remover and just peel off the sensor (Video about that here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b7CUiKt0qdOXhWw.html). There’s no needle sitting in the arm, only the small sensor. The needle gets retracted back into the application device

I read in a previous video not to press hard when pressing the orange button as pressing hard can cause bleeds. After using my G6 for past 6 months I had my first (and hopefully last) bleed. I had to remove the sensor (total waste), and now I'm waiting for my "Once bitten twice shy" thing to subside before I insert another sensor. BTW it WAS BLEEDING HEAPS!!

@DiabetesStrong

It can bleed a bit, but if you find that it's painful or the readings become inaccurate you should contact Dexcom for a replacement. Some people will unfortunately bleed more than others. You can try and ice the place where you want to place the sensor first, that helps some. For more tips on bruising check out this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e8ufdJCaqbatl4k.htmlsi=Z5ZlmjeflFP3XCc-

Did you update the receiver with the new transmitter number? And if the sensor failed completely, both on the phone and the receiver you might have a faulty sensor. If that's the case you should contact Dexcom and have them send you a replacement sensor

I generally use my phone as the receiver and prefer that. You should check if your phone is compatible, as not all phones are. You can look it up on Dexcom's website. This video (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/kMWChcWQ3ryqeI0.html) shows how to adjust the alerts on both phone and receiver and most of my newer Dexcom videos (kzfaq.info/sun/PLP1_U1UAmvW7LBcCKjRIcEVD8pQocRCXZ) show the app as well

@DiabetesStrong
@DiabetesStrong 2 жыл бұрын
The (in)serted or applicator is the white device that holds the sensor. When you take it out of the package the sensor is already in there so no assembly is needed. Once you click the orange button a needle is released and it quickly inserts the hair-thin sensor under the skin. The needle retracts and then you remove the inserted and pop the transmitter into the sensor

How do you shower with it in without damaging it / go to gym?
@DiabetesStrong

Showering isn’t a problem. I’m just careful not to pull at it. Generally, it sticks fairly well. If it’s on my abdomen I often place it above where I’d wear a belt to limit the risk of it getting pulled off, but that’s about it. If it does start to peel I’ll add an overlay tape
