@@ryanshannon6963 Because the center is neutral, the left and right are each of the 120V (hot) phases to give 240V total to the dryer. What phase goes to which side is not important. So center == neutral, left = hot, right = hot

@@loganrose9666 No, yours isn't different and it doesn't matter which side the two side wires attach to. The first time you tried you must not have made a proper connection on any one of the three wires. When you swapped the two outer wires, you then likely made the correct connection needed for your appliance to run. The only one that matters as far as order goes is the wire in the middle needs the middle terminal. I've ben servicing appliances for over 50 years. Hope that helps.

The instructions for my Whirlpool dryer refer to color match for the three prong, and the three prong does not have colors and you can't see colors inside the dryer electric box thingy. Who knew you don't get electric cord with a new dryer? Always bought used and they throw that in.

I plugged the power side first the side that goes into the wall. There was a huge, loud shock. It scared the hell out of me and burned a hole through my shorts and somehow i didn’t get shocked i was very lucky

Yes it doesn’t matter because it’s alternating current meaning the current/electricity flows in an out of both wires. When you’re dealing with DC electric it’s different you typically have a black and red wire but housing electricity is ran on alternating current/AC

I got my dryer used. Doesn't have a strain relief, the terminal block is just hanging it's not secured, and I'm recently widowed feeling overwhelmed with all I have to learn!!

I did it just like this on mine and power is going through it, but somehow power is moving through the dryer itself as a conductor, and i get a little shock if I touch something else metal. something is not grounded correctly.

I did this but I was told it was wrong. The dryer runs hot for 10 minutes and then it’s cold and shuts off the breaker so I don’t know what the problem is now they’re telling me on the back of his dryer book that I’m supposed to move the white wire over to another area I’m not really understanding

What about the ground wire? The dryer comes with it attached by a screw to the outer shell on the left. The instruction pamphlet says to unscrew this & also attach this to the center. I don’t to get electrocuted!

I’m having trouble. On the terminal block behind the red wire.. mine doesn’t have the part that the screw screws into to connect both cables.. It’s just the face of the red wire. Can I unite two wires on the terminal block and the other one where it goes?

My Whirlpool Dryer looks EXACTLY like your picture. However, the strain relief device will not fit through the circular hole. It appears slightly too large. Is there a trick I am missing? PS: Thanks for tell us “It doesn’t matter which side they’re on.” I though there was a significance.

When he says disconnect power.... in other words which would've been much more helpful to me.....Turn The Breaker Off I simply wanted to make sure I had the right one and it fit into the wall before doing anything else Boy did I get a pop n burn FLIP THE BREAKER FIRST

No matter what we do, the strain relief clamps won’t stay in place. They have these little side tabs that appear like they’re supposed to fit just inside the hole, but we can’t get them to. Why doesn’t this video mention those tabs at all?
