Hey, chick, what's up? :-p I cannot figure out what kit from wherever will allow a circular blade to be installed on a Rigid line trimmer. Do you know? TIA! (I watched this a long time ago and looked it up again. Good video. Thanks.) (EDIT Oh, it's the cordless/battery trimmer. I will not use anything bigger than a 6" blade.)

Kind of funny. I've been using typical carbine tip skill saw type blades for well over two to three decades or longer, well before any trimmer company thought about using any blade on their trimmer offerings. And I could cut trails into hunting stands with ease. And I also made adapters to install such blades on the newer trimmers when I bought them. I have a metal lathe and turning adapters is a breeze. One thing I have discovered is the cheaper blades with the fewer carbide tips work tons better then ones with a lot of carbide tips. In other words, stay away from the expensive quality cabinet grade carbide tip blades and go for the cheaper fewer carbide tips for quicker cutting ability of woody brush and fairly large saplings. Thumbs Up!

Terriffic! You re-invented the wheel, and have kept up with the curve. Now, lets get back to what everyone comes here for, information. Also, a Skil saw is an old brand of circular saw, nothing more. They are super heavy, difficult to rip with, and come with a short cable/line in. ALL of the 7 1/4" blades fit on ALL circular saws. Skil is a collectible brand....just not the only brand.

I've been using Grass Gator for over ten years, and found it works better for most brush than any saw blade I've tried. Full body armor is advisable if you can't take a hit from rocks and sticks, but I can live with that. I initially bought the Echo kit but just wasn't impressed with it. My old SRM-210 is 18 years old and it has been really worked on our acreage. Of all the blades I've tried, the Forester blade with chainsaw teeth seems to perform the best.

13:50- the underside of that cupped washer you're holding is concave, which allows a single reducer adapter washer to fall into the concave area of the cupped washer. I have to insert TWO reducer/adapter washers under my cupped washer to keep a single one from falling into that concave area. I'm running an Echo SRM-265T. It's a beast!!!

Echo makes a great machine there. I bought one in 1999, it's still running beautifully. As with anything else, matainance will always be a key issue, as if you change you gas filter yearly or by yearly, and take out the screen by the muffler and clean it from the carbon buildup and put it back in place again along with a spark plug check or change, it will run for you for a long, long time in the future.

Excellent video presentation & tutorial! I have a Shindiawa T230X trimmer/brush cutter that I purchased new in 1997, & it's one of the best outdoor power products I've ever had. I have given the trimmer basic maintenance since I've had it, but never had to do much else. I replace the trimmer gear case grease in the spring, clean the air filter. I probably should replace the spark plug, but it still works-lol! I purchased a brush blade that uses 3 chainsaw cutters placed on the perimeter of the cutting wheel, so sharpening is with a round file, like a chainsaw chain. It works great. I purchased an Echo 225 in 2017, & am basically happy with it, but the carburetor high speed jet non tamper plug was preventing adjustment (to eliminate engine bogging while opening throttle) until I removed the plug. I learned to adjust 2-cycle engine carburetors on the older chainsaws & trimmers, with high & low speed jet needle adjustment screws that could be easily reached with with a small screwdriver, before the EPA "improved" the carburetor designs. Last summer was very rainy in NW Arkansas, & I could not keep with the lawn mowing, either-lol!

@@howtogetoutofbabylon8978 I bought a brush blade for my Shindaiwa T230X trimmer a few years after I bought the trimmer, I think. The brush blade adapter hardware was included with the trimmer when I bought it, I believe. The conversion from trimmer to brush cutter was pretty easy, & the brush blade I got is basically a disk, about 10" in diameter, with 3 chainsaw cutters attached to the disk's perimeter. The attached brush blade could easily cut down a 6" diameter tree, but I haven't used the brush blade in years. If you still have the instructions for your Shindaiwa trimmer, there should be a page that shows parts & accessories (with part #'s), & on my instructions, I think the brush blade & adapter parts are shown (with part #'s). There are also online sources for parts & part listings for Shindaiwa equipment from ereplacement parts, jacks small engines, & others. I hope that helps! Good luck.

See the cup at 4:38? They are so thin they wear out very quickly. after running through 2 of them I made a replacement out of solid aluminum which lasts for years of use. If you do not want down time make sure you have an extra cup on the shelf - and watch for flying unscheduled disassembles .or make a solid one.

My old RedMax, probably 30 years or older, has the Schindiowa drive head. I use the large 4 cutting edge type steel cutter and use the universal bump head string head to clamp it together. In tall grass and/or soft weeds I do use the trimmer line in the head. The line tends to pull the grass/weeds into the cutter teeth for a very smooth and fast cut. For brush, I use no trimmer line, but the head serves as a glide to avoid ground contact and scalping. Too much load; you may say? Well, my heavily used RedMax and Stifhl units are old timers and run great. If I ruin them tomorrow, I could not complain; but they will not crap-out tomorrow; it seems to work just fine and dandy.

What I do with all my old saw blades that has a small center hole is to grab the conical grinding stone and chuck it up in the drill press. the conical stone will open the hole exactly in the center of the blade slowly. you can occasionally check the hole size until it fits perfectly. go slow and have fun saving all that money!!

I've been using an Echo PAS (forget the model number) with both a string trimmer head and the brush blade head, but like Gary Mucher commented earlier, the cheapest 7 1/4" Skil saw 24 tooth ripping blade cuts much better and cuts even when worn dull. All i need to do to fit it on the Echo head is to knock out the bigger hole in the blade with punch and hammer, then just put a piece of duct or electrical tape around the arbor for a tight fit.

In my experience its important to only use a blade on a trimmer that has a clutch. Even though a blade will fit, it doesn't mean the trimmer will work good. Without a clutch the engine will be constantly stalling and you could damage the engine or shaft or the gear box.

I went to my local Stihl dealer and was told that if I put something like a Forester chainsaw blade on my KM 56R, it would destroy the unit in a heartbeat because of that reason and said, basically, the shaft can't handle the stress as it's made up of a stranded steel cable vs other more expensive units that have a solid steel rod as it's drive shaft. Least to say, I was a little let down by that news.

Make sure your trimmer is powerful enough to mount a brush cutter blade. My FS55 takes a while to spin the supplied Stihl 8 cutting face blade up to speed and it keeps spinning for almost 30 seconds after switching the engine off. At speed, the rotational forces make the trimmer require more force to sweep from side to side. Handlebars and a harness are a must.

Omg yes!!! I was surprised to see blades being mounted to weed eaters. Those are underpowered for that and have very little control with those dinky handles. Very dangerous. Get an actual brush cutter (higher CC's) with wide handles for control. I've used blades on shindaiwa b450, c350 and currently on an echo SRM 410u. I would never use them on a weed eater/ trimmer.

I found a decent product for curved shaft trimmers that will cut thicker brush and even small tree saplings I think its called brush ninja the one with plastic tips will fit straight or curved shaft the one with metal tipped blades will fit straight shaft trimmers. the plastic blades will destroy ivy and small brush

Thankx for your informed videos !!! I have retired after 47 1/2 years working on autos and 26 years on heavy equipment. But not worked on small engine engines since 7th grade ! OOPS. I have salvaged 5 yard tractors into 2 working (sometimes) MTD & TROY built (Craftsman) mowers. But had problems all summer getting B/S 18.5 hp model 422707 engines started new air filter, new fuel and elect mag w/ good spark! Cranking over up to 30 sec. several times and then is starts and runs good for 3 plus hours mowing the yard (weeds lol) unless I run out of gas then I may have to wait hours until it cools down to get it to start again ! Ooh they are 1993 and 1994 engines I would enjoy seeing you explain it to us Older farts what I'm not finding wrong ! Let us here in SE MinnesnowTa what to do this winter to get started mowing in June/ 2022. Like your shows Pete G

So Pete, you’re saying you’re cranking for up to 30 seconds with a good spark….. that suggests to me that you may be having a carburetor issue, and on all those older Briggs and Stratton’s I would get in there with some cleaner and make sure all those passageways are cleaned out of any gum. Make sure that you don’t have gas in your carburetor float which makes the float sink, and if you do, you can get a float and needle kit with a gasket. Hope that helps..

My dealership always reccomended only mounting blades to a trimmer with bicycle handles. I never used one on a regular trimmer. It certainly would work, but I would think you better have a good grip on it. Ever see those chainsaw blades that mount on a small angle grinder?
@John-gj1jr
@John-gj1jr 2 жыл бұрын
I had one of the angle grinder blade you refer to. Key word is here is: "had". I saw a video of a man who tried one one-handed. It ran all the way up his left (?) arm, under his chin and up behind his right ear. I don't remember the stitch count. I put mine on an anvil, beat it to pieces, wrapped it in a half dozen bags and put it in the garbage. I didn't want anyone using it if something happened to me. I certainly wasn't going to use it again. Just a thought...

@@davidwillard7334I don't know. I just saw it on some woodworking channel. He was holding the workpiece in one hand and, well, you get the picture. I think the guy "Stumpynubs" (youtube) had an accident with one actually using both hands. I'm not a weak guy, but that thing would get away from you in a heart beat. They make tools for angle grinders that are much safer. Look into them.

I have a furry buddy like yours. No joke he's like a little brother to me. It don't matter what I'm doing, my Lil buddy (Yogi-man) is right there with me. Love all your videos. And those arbor bushings mess alot of people up. All I do is sell them the blade that fits the washer on the machine. It takes alot of the headaches away later down the road. That's for Stihl equipment anyway.
