www.electrical-online.com. Step-by-step instruction on how to wiring a ceiling fan with a remote control. Adding a ceiling fan to a room is a simple DIY wiring project, but the addition of a remote control to a ceiling fan adds a greater level of difficulty to the wiring. The Internet Electrician walks you through the additional steps of wiring and installing a ceiling fan with a remote. Here's a link to my new video on this same subject, but more details and far better video and sound quality. • How to Install a Ceili...

Looks great, and with a brighter bulb installed that’s all the light you need. kzfaq.infoUgkxWF88GpljEn-0o34vtLFazEQ5h5Q33SjU As far as ease of installation- this was my first ceiling fan and it took about 3 hours because I had no idea what I was doing and also it’s helpful to have a second set of hands and a magnetic drill bit. Works great.

Thanks! That's what I needed!! The remote was not working because I was hooking up both black wires (Instead of the black and a red) respectively to the light and fan wires. Once I hooked up the black on receiver to the black from ceiling and left the other black (red) wire by itself covered with a wire nut, my remote worked!!! I almost cried with my sister ( who was helping me) yay! It works now!!!

Hey Terry nice video! Another option for people who prefer to turn the lights on when they first walk in the room would be to connect the red wire from the ceiling to the blue wire that goes directly to your fan(this of course will not allow you remote to work for the light). It's hard to find the remote when your room is dark. Unless your really good at putting the remote by the door every time you leave the room :). Just my 2 cents though.

Very helpful. Can you clarify how many ground wires you would have in a situation like this, and where they are coming from? Obviously, you have the main ground coming from the ceiling, and then a ground wire screwed to the mounting bracket. I think there's a third ground, yes? I installed a remote-controlled ceiling fan last week and followed this exact procedure, but my LED lights are humming. I am not using a dimmer switch. Don't know what I did wrong, but I'm pretty sure the lights should not be humming. They hum whether the fan is on or off. It's not the fan motor that is humming, but the lights. Thanks!

I did one of these a few hours ago, the toughest part was the transmitter and all the wires fitting in the canopy (the install design of the fan was lacking thought on the actual installation, the blades were installed per the instructions before the base was mounted to the ceiling) hampton bay seems to have the best install design!)

Hi there, thank you for your videos. I am hoping there is a way I can install a ceiling fan in my ceiling that has no drywall. My ceiling is only painted beams with a flattop roof so I have no crawlspace. I’m hoping there is a way to run the wiring on the outside of my wall somehow? I would greatly appreciate your advice, thank you advance.

So, you didn’t really ‘tuck all the wires up into the ceiling receptacle’. I’ve been trying to get all the wires into the receptacle in the ceiling; I even took the bracket down (very difficult with the canopy in the way) and tried to re-sit the wires and then the remote - but it’s IMPOSSIBLE. So I guess I really don’t have to get all the wires into the receptacle, just into the canopy. That’s good to know.

Having a hard time finding the code on the receiver to make sure it’s set properly, any advice on where exactly on the receiver the code is located to set it properly? Are the dip switches identical with the ones on the controller?? *Update* receive didn’t have a dip switch on my model, it’s older. Called customer service and found the sequence to pair remote. Power fan off, take battery out remote, power fan on, power remote on, point remote at receiver and press and release 3, then 2, then 1, worked like a charm.
@theinternetelectrician
@theinternetelectrician Жыл бұрын
Not sure where it would be? It shouldn't be hidden anywhere that you need to remove screws to get at it? The dip switches should be identical on each, just look for indication as to what is up or on with each as sometimes it's hard to tell. I would just throw the question out on a search engine worded exactly how you would ask. "Where are the dip switches located on the receiver for a xxxxxx fan, model number xxxxxx"?

Yeah I figured it out. The box for the chandelier was not suitable for a fan. I had to get in there and cut it out. Then I used one of those fan rated boxes that you crank in, between the studs. It removed virtually all the wobble. I just had to add those weights to the fan blades and it didn't wobble at all. =D

Hey Terry, Got a question or two about ceiling fans with remotes. Quite awhile back I bought four ceiling fans and didn't realize they came with remotes. Didn't want the fans with remotes but I am stuck with them. Is there any way I can convert these fans to operate with manual pull-chain switches for the lights and fan speeds? They are Hunter fans, Lantern Bay Ceiling Fans series. We planned on using the fans for outdoor use. Can I hook them up in parallel and on a 20 amp circuit? Thanks for your excellent videos and the pointers you give us DIYers. Robert

Other side of receiver is input side: white "AC in N" (power in: neutral); black "AC in L" (power in: Line)...connect black(from ceiling) to black and white(from ceiling) to white. There should also be a green coming from either fan or receiver..connect it to green coming from ceiling. Hope this helps.

@theinternetelectrician
@theinternetelectrician 11 ай бұрын
Yes, that's OK. Sometimes electronics need a power down to reset the brains, but that's not common or often at all, but if it does become necessary then you can accomplish that with the circuit breaker.

Thanks for the video, i had a similar issue and didn't know what to do with the red wire....now i know. Once you install a fan like that how do you take out the second switch that's not being used? or can you convert it to use for something else?
@theinternetelectrician
@theinternetelectrician 7 жыл бұрын
I like to remove the switch and install a blank filler plate. You don't have to do anything with it, but a switch that does nothing can cause aggravation down the road, especially if you sell the house. Someone might spend countless hours trying to figure out what it's for! Converting it for something else would depend on a bunch of things, like how the circuit is wired and what you would want the switch to control. You could install a receptacle in that spot if you had some useful purpose in mind. Wall-mounted TV or picture viewer, charging station for phones / tablets / other devices providing there was a shelf nearby to set them on?

Good question, but no, the remote needs constant power source and I believe back-feeding the remote circuitry by over-riding the remote with the wall switch wouldn't be a good idea although I've never tried it,...? Maybe I'll test that out next time I'm installing one of these as I've had this question a couple of times now.

i have put the receiver like you in the cover and after 1 week and a very hot day both of the fans that i installed went wrong.The receivers stop working so no control of the fan. I took them back replace them and install the receivers outside so they can have more air. (Take note that is not only a receiver and works like a transformer so it becomes hot! )
