You can either use a regular nut and let the bolt hang out, or cut it back to be as flush as possible.

I got the same bike and same chain tugs, but as a soon I mount the tugs the chain become too tense, the transmission and the free wheel barely spins. I don't think is good for the cogs and bearing. Have you changed the chain as well? Mine seems too short now.

Cutting the bolt is dumbest thing ever. What if you chain stretches? ...it's gonna happen. What if you what to change your freewheel or chain ring? What if you want to use on your new upgraded bike?

If my chain is stretching by an amount significant enough to not be able to crank it a little tighter - that chain is donezo. For the other questions - yeah new tensioner.
