Thank you so much, solved my problem of paying people to do something I always knew I could do. Recently tried doing this by hand with a sharp putty knife & destroyed a $20 Predator tip, I was devastated. Will be purchasing this kit, thanks again.

I installed a tip with your kit, I like it. Only trouble is. A new tip is longer then either tool can reach. Next time I think I will have to shape it first, to take a layer or two off the top

No, if the tip is just mushroomed, you can simply take the porper cut rite and trim the mushroom off. That is one of the great things about having this tool laying around. I usually only change my tip when it is wore down and thin to the ferrule.
@SeybertsBilliards
@SeybertsBilliards 11 жыл бұрын
Hi, yes, this method will work on tips that are 11.50mm and up. The cut-rite for final trimming works on shafts down to 11.50mm. There is just a little more trimming to do with smaller tips. Remember to take small amounts off the tip while trimming with the cut-rite. Trying to take to much off at one whack will cause problems. slow and steady.

Well, this is just a grouping of tools that can be used to change a tip if you do not have access to lathe or a cue person that does tip changes. The best way to change a tip is still with a lathe by far. Sure, tips can last a long time... probably much more than 6 mo. Of course it is dependent on your playing time. Just get a good shape on the tip when installed and just chalk it. Shapers and scuffers will remove leather so only use them if you have to and you tip will last a long time.

Question, will this work with any size tip? My main player is 11.75mm, and i have another cue that's 11.5mm, and 12.25mm Really considering getting this tool. I generally favor Lepro tips but they do require maintenance and replacing.when they are bad. Thanks!

This is a good kit for doing house cues only, as a cue Smith I have a lathe, but I had a buddy that owns a bar and asked me if this would work instead of sending me all his house cues which I hate doing. Here used it and totally fucked up his ferrules and marked up his shafts. I thought it was his ability so I went to his establishment and did it on his cue, I did a much better job but it still does a crap job and a number to the ferrule. It's a total botch product. I do reccomend it if you are doing house cues as house cues are treated like shit anyways. But not reccomend on any cue over $200. Or on ANY quality shaft.

Prime No. 6 you can remove the old ferrule and they make oversized ferrules that slip over the shaft of the cue and you glue them on. very inexpensive and easy. doesn't look as clean and professional, but is economical and your best option for old, beater, bar type cues.
@slick66

I've used light grit sandpaper on both the back of the new tip and top end of the ferrule and a simple drop of super glue on both sides. Let it cure under weight overnight. That held up for house cues for years. Lots of good mixed epoxy glues are on the market too. You can just turn the cue tip down and hang a little weight on it overnight. A box knife and a shaping tool and it's good to go again. If you enjoy playing order yourself a 'Little George' and you'll have a shaper/scuffer and tap tool that lasts for decades. Replacing tips isn't 1/10th as difficult as the video makes it out to be.

All you really need is a razor blade and super glue. I have changed a few with nothing more than a blade a super glue a few times. Although not idea it can be done. Just takes a bit of patience and precision. However a bit of sandpaper and a 5/1 tip tool for $15 can help alot also. But if you can afford one thing out of this set i would recommend the cut rite Cut your old tip off with a razor. Use the razor and shave off the little bit of tip that is left on the ferule bit by bit being suuper careful to not cut into the ferule. Make a few marks in the ferule and tip tithe razor to help the glue make a good bond. Glue on your tip. Take the excess off with the razor and get it closer to the diameter of the ferule. Then use a cutrite to make the tip perfectly round and the exact diameter of the ferule. If you cant afford the cutrite yo7 can also do this step with nothing but the razor. Cutting away from you ferule. You need alot of patience and you have to be suuper meticulous and precise if your going to use only a razor blade for this step. Once the outside is cut to diameter. Use a pice of cardboard. Wet the tip edges slightly and use the cardboard to create friction and heat to burnish it. Then shape the tip to dime or nickel which ever is preferred and voila.

any cue that you purchase from Dick's Sporting Goods is a throw away. A new tip is worth more than that piece of wood. Better you purchase a quality cue from a pool hall and use the Mizerak cue for tinder... seriously... tinder

@Gxcheaplord
@Gxcheaplord 7 жыл бұрын
Once you know how to apply it. It came off 2x before staying of for perm. Just make sure you let the glue try and then burnish the tip and shaft. i Got some glue on the sides so i just use a non-scrathable sand paper and doubled glued it just encase. As long you make sure you glue it properly it should be okay.

bought a mcdermott cue from Sey and added moori tip, some idiot carelessly put it in, after 2 weeks pf playing (about 3 times) tip come off and the under side of the tip obviously not being sanded enough, so it's not rough to hold the glue, wait... there isnt any glue at all...

I've seen that happen to the best of cues. I suspect people touch the surfaces or don't prep them correctly. I've also seen people use a liquid type glue that soaks into the back of the tip.

This is the exact reason that Kamui came out with the 'clear' tip, because it doesn't absorb glue unevenly like natural leather grain does.

Now I know why my tip popped off from there. Shouldn't use accelerator, quicker but weakens the bond. Sad.
@thentrav
@thentrav 10 жыл бұрын
If you're concerned about misplacing a tip with glue on it (hence, choosing a larger tip than designed for your shaft), then don't use accelerant and you'll have more time to make adjustments! further, this isn't a fool-proof system. some steps require you just to have experience (amount of glue, not gouging ferrule with cut rite, not gouging ferrule with cut rite trimmer, sanding, shaping), and you still might not get optimal results. this is too much guess work and imprecision for me. i think ill go to a professional with a lathe.

I repair cues and this video made me cringe, he didn't clean any of the dust off the tip after he roughed the back up so all that dust is in the glue between the tip and the ferrule. 240 grit on a ferrule sanding like that along the length of it, that'll leave flat spots, no paper lower than 1500 grit goes anywhere near the ferrules I have to clean up. Also did you notice, no close ups so you couldn't see the marks on the ferulle and tip I bet were there. I'm far from a professional cue maker but that was poor workmanship for me.

Oh its not. I mean he did put a tip on did he not. Therefore your statement is inaccurate. Also if you did actually watch the video he says that the best way to install a tip is still with a lathe. But being that moat people dont have a lathe at home. This method is one way to do it. But since your clearly the master at tip instillation. Why dont you back your claim up and actually tell ppl how you would do it or what you believe he has done wrong instead of just sitting there behind a computer screen and throwing shade without any facts or even any ideas of what is wrong with this method or what to do differently
