Good video! Dumb place for the battery! Also, ya need is a couple T-handled allen wrenches. Would make it a little easier. Overall, I'm glad you're doing this replacement! It kinda looks like the job from the Darkside.

It snapped because it was heated up. When metal heats up it expands and fatigues it hence the break. A soldier gun on the outside of the bolt and 2 or 3 torx would have it out in a jiffy. Swap out the torx every 5 seconds or so would have kept them cool enough not heat up, expand or break up. Plus that helps keep the bolt cooler which keeps it from expanding itself. Keeping the bolt cooler helps it from expanding and grabbing onto the hole it’s in!

That’s scary just to watch it do it good job man

I believe you used a non-impact socket. I did the same thing on my 2019, swapped the steering wheel, and purchased a set of Torx bits from Lowes/Craftfsman. The finish was flat back, not chrome. While the nut on mine was extremey tight, it did come out, eventually.

I also have a C7 (2016). I am not in the market to change my steering wheel, but I just love to watch your install videos. I also watched your side skirt and front lip installation video. I will be installing those once the weather here in Canada gets warmer. I was wondering, since the impact gun made the bolt so hot, would that not expand the bolt, therefore making it harder to come out??

@@THECORVETTECHANNEL Hi Scott. I trust you and your wife are well and staying safe. I am a new owner of a 2016 C7 Z51 Vett. I purchased my Vett in late October last year, pretty much in time to store it. Over the winter I've been doing a lot of reading and watching KZfaq channels such as yours to learn about body and engine mods. I came across a video featuring a product I've never heard of before. A catch can, air and oil separator. I'm sure you've heard about this and am wondering, did you install one? Are they necessary? Are they a "good to have, certainly won't hurt" type of product. From what research I've done, it seems like a good idea. But I don't want to add anything to the engine that might result in damage.

Where did you get the wheel from?

A very good informative video, but for me the OE black is far nicer, may be just install the white air bag, a few monthe ago I got to sit in and inspect the new C8 that GM are takeing all over the country, this had white trim, looked dirty and gruby, same for this wheel in a few months.

Great job, when I did mine the wheel didn't line up the first time when I drove to keep the car straight I had to hold the wheel at 2c oclock taking it off the second time the clock spring out with it had to have that and the steering angle sensor replaced.

That sounds like something was not right from the factory they are keyed to only go on in one spot. I'm sorry that happened to you! Thanks for watching!

That's exactly what happened to me. I mentioned it to my mechanic and he thinks that since the wheel is keyed, when I was loosening or tightening the steering wheel, I may have turned the shaft a bit. As soon as the weather gets better here in NJ, he said to stop on down and he'll align everything.
