I have no experience wrenching on any vehicle but with this video you gave me the confidence to do my own lift on my new 4runner. Thanks for all of your time to put this together. Learning to work on my own vehicle has been on my bucket list for a long time and you helped me over come the fear and anxiety to get it done.

Now I see why you got the KZfaq Certified Mechanic T-shirt. Took you 19:26 to install complete lift on your 5th Gen 4Runner. I just completed install of Icon 2.5 Coilovers w/ CDCV, SPC Upper Control Arms, Icon Rear 2.5 Shocks w/ CDCV, Icon Overlander Springs, Toytec 2" Bump Stop Spacers, and all related hardware. Took me 2 days. Haha. I can say your video was instrumental in helping me do it myself even though I'm not near as fast as you guys. You both have been my inspiration in my 4runner build. I want to thank you for all you do and please please keep it up.

On the rear spring install, don't make the end of the spring touch the keeper. Back it off 1/4 inch or so. That way it won't squeak later on. Zero effect otherwise. I REALLY like that you did your test drive before retightening everything and hopefully marked them for easy visual inspection with a paint pen. That's something I've not seen anyone do yet and wouldn't have thought of even myself. Great job guys.

I love it. I love these and Grand Cherokees. I got a 2019 Grand Cherokee Limited with the HEMI and is amazing with off-roading BUT...I hate that Chrysler didn't do a solid axle in the rear, cause if they did it'll be easy to drop the front diff a bit but since its independent in rear too, the only thing we can do is use spacers or up to 2.5 of lift max.

Great video as always. Not sure if it really matters but on the front strut lower eyelet bolt the nut should be in front.

You mentioned that the lower A arm camber and toe bolts would freeze up from corrosion. Your fix was anti-seiz on the bolt. While I agree with doing that, the real issue is the adjusting sleeve becoming corroded and attaching itself to the A arm bushing sleeve. This can happen with either the toe or camber adjustment. I would anti-seiz or heavily grease all contact surfaces. You lift was nice, good choice and good job. 09 4Runner Trail edition,

Great informative and entertaining video other then that you tightened down the control arms while suspension was sagging proper way would to to Drop vehicle back on tires on ground load the suspension when suspension settles then tighten both upper and lower control arms the way you show is miss leading and could bind the bushings and cause brand new control arm bushing to rip and tear

Even with the differential lowering kit, consider changing out the needle bearing in front drivers side diff. The additional axial strain caused by the suspension lift will eventually degrade this bearing. I have seen it dozens of times, generally manifested in a roaring oscillation sound at certain speeds, 40-50mph in most cases.

Hey Guys! Love your vibe and vids! I'm going to be doing this soon. I bought a full King kit with adjustable resevoirs and extended travel. Hopeing to get around a 2 to 2.5" lift. Everything else is stock on my 2021 TRD ORP. Got the Kings used for really cheap. they were bought last year and have around 8000 miles on them. I'm also getting new SPC uppers and will do the diff drop and sway bar relocate. Wanted to know if you had to modify anything to get the 285's to fit or did you simply add the lift and the tires were good to go? What setting did you end up with on the SPC's for the ball joint. "D" is supposed to be factory. What did you end up with and would you mind explaining why? Also, what alignment specs did you end up with? I've seen other videos that say 0 for everything but 4 for caster was right for them. Is that where you ended up at? You know, a video on this subject from you guys would be amazing. I trust you and would love to get your take! Thanks again for everything and keep doing what you're doing!

Great video! Very detailed... I am getting ready to install SPC UPC and a Toytec spacer kit on a Pro. How are yours holding up? It seems like by removing the UCA that saves a lot of work as opposed to separating the lower to get the strut assembly out.

Another Oscar performance!! (golf clap) I have a 2016 4runner TRD PRO that HAS NOT been driven off road, but both coil over springs have broken. It has 82000 miles. It has the stock Bilstein shocks that were supplied with the vehicle. At about 35000 miles, the passenger side coil over spring broke in 2 places and the front end sagged and made a horrible racket. I had that replaced, and the dealership supposedly sent the busted spring away for analysis. Yesterday, I did a brake pads/rotor change on the front end, and discovered that the driver side coil over spring is now broken in 2 spots. The reason that this was not noticeable is that the spring broke at the top and at the bottom, and there was enough meat left from top to bottom so it didn't make noise or affect driving. The stock shocks and springs are no longer available. My question after all that is what shocks would you recommend to replace the Bilstein shocks and springs (front and rear)? I'm not looking to lift the suspension, but maintain the stock height (give or take an inch)? I have looked at Bilstein 5100 series, but i'm unsure of what to get. Any advice is appreciated. Great video and I've seen several like this but isn't it easier to swing the lower control arm down and pull the shock out from underneath if your not replacing the upper control arm?

Great video. You need to torque lower control arm bolts at ride height not full droop. They will bind and twist when you torque them at droop.

I definitely need a lift - my sliders and front bumpers are weighing everything down. I am not sold on big 285 tires because I'm concerned about power. Did you notice any annoying drop in power with all that rubber? Also, you gave off road but no KDSS? Did you remove it?

Great video! I have a '16 SR5 and I'm probably going to go with the same suspension lift soon, but with JBA high caster UCA's (because the price is right). Honestly I don't think I would have chosen to do the lift myself if it wasn't for your video. I had a bunch of questions, but I think I found all the answers in the comments! Thanks for all the responses. I'm hoping that the lift won't take too long to do in my garage with some jack stands and a buddy. One question with regard to the front springs and the weight rating... My front end is stock, but I plan on getting a SSO Low Profile bumper w/ light bar and a winch in the next year or so. I think you guys ended up running the same bumper. Is it reasonable to get the heavier springs (700lb instead of 650lb rated) right now, or should I wait until the bumper install and swap the springs then? I don't know if the heavy springs would be way too stiff on a stock front end, but I don't want to buy twice. Did you guys upgrade the front springs to accommodate the weight of the winch and bumper or are you still running the 650lb springs? Thank you!

I have a question that I really hope you can help me with… If you haven’t already, can you measure the current height of your 4Runner from the floor to the highest point (either the shark fin antenna or roof rails)? I put a deposit on a TRD ORP so have to wait about 3-4 months to get it. I want to do same lift height and same tire size and want to know if it will fit in my garage since I have an old school wood garage door. Doing a simple Google search comes up with a stock height of either 71.5 or 72 inches tall but it doesn’t say if that is to the roof or roof rails. So since I don’t have my 4 runner yet can you measure yours for me? It would be highly appreciated and something that no one has be able to answer me in fb groups. Thank you in advance!

Great video well explained, with higher lift does that put more stress on the cv and with bigger ties how does that effect gas and gears . Lifted my 13 jk and was not being educated or told by seller that rims , gears , drive line and miss. Needed to go with it 8 gs later and still crappy gas mileage but is awesome to off road as long as you have Jerry cans . Very interested in getting a 4 runner I’m trying to as much self education as possible this time . Your in put will be much appreciated. Note did most of the work myself but all was checked and torque buy 4x4 shop.

As I comment in another of your videos, I just purchase a 2017 4Runner trd off road and I am planing to lift it, but I have read in some forums about issues after installing the kits. Did you have to perform a "zero point calibration" after installing the lift and do the alignment?

I ordered the HD rear springs from OME with a 400lb constant weight rating and wondering if i need to change to the Super HD Rear Spring with up to 1000 lb? I forgot to ask. What’s the spring rate on those front coils. How many lb is it? The instruction doesn’t state how many lbs the front coils. I’m thinking about upgrading my coil but want to make sure if it’s the right rating before I upgrade.

Thanks for the video. Working on my diff drop and noticed the the bold does not complete go through the top nut. Also noticed you put loctight on your nut. I was not able to see the end result on your video of how much the bold thread went through the nut. Can you confirm if it did not go all the way through and if it has not, have you had any issues or loss nut braces if this? Thanks

So I just got a 2019 TRD Pro. Did you decide that you needed more lift and therefore went for the TT lift? Bc my Fox suspension currently is very smooth and I'm debating whether it's worth it or not to get rid of it. you don't need to disconnect anything in the back at all... just get your bottle jack out and put it under the bump stop on the side you're working on. Then extend it as far as needed to get the compressed larger spring in. SO much easier!

Im interested doing 3inch lift on my 2016 4runner but haveno idea what brand and what size of wheels and rims to put after installation...if someone can help i would really appreciate it

Few more questions for you guys: what kind of grease you using for upper control arms? What brand torque wrench you guys use? I didn’t get those square radiator support shims in my kit, they discontinued 🤔? Weird. And finally, i chose the reg springs. Do I need spring compressors for them? I was estimating that they are a size that still fits with some elbow grease with out spring compressors. Thoughts and advise? Thanks again.

Hi there Wanderlost, I'm putting the diff drop in and mine only came with two washers for the long bolt which I assume goes on the bottom between the bolt and OEM big washer. I noticed you also added a washer on the top side where the nut attaches. Did you supply your own washer for that? Love your content. It is never quite as easy as the videos show, but the videos are a tremendous help. Thank you for the help.

Question guys, as you two are my go to for info on a great 4runner build. I just installed the SPC Upper Control Arms on my 2015 4runner Trail Premium along with Icon 2.5 coilovers w/ CDCV. Anyway, my question is, what setting did you set your ball joint in on your control arms? A, B, C, D ??????

When you drilled the hole for the remote reservoir do you need to seal where you drilled the hole to prevent rust or should it be fine?

Installed a similar 3” lift with JBA high caster upper control arms. I have a steering wheel vibration at certain speed ranges. Had multiple alignments and tire balances. I can’t quite get to the 4 degrees caster recommended by toytec, thinking bout swapping UCA with the SPC. Anyone else have a similar problem on the lifted 4runner? I assume the caster will fix the issue, but another 700 down the drain...
