Harness bars are a cheap solution for light motorsports where the risk of fast or head-on collisions is low. I'll go to a full cage in my drift car eventually, but for this season I wanted to quickly install a 5-point racing harness for better car control in tandems!👌

Hey Kame, been a fan of your videos for a while now and actually just purchased my first S-chassis, '92 S13 coupe. I would like to install a harness bar similar to yours and was wondering, do you drive this car on the street a lot? What are your thoughts of a harness bar on a street build that will see minor track use? I know it is mixed opinions depending on who you ask. Thanks!

Thanks for the kind words, glad you’ve been able to enjoy the videos I’ve worked on over the years! As for streeting a harness bar, I’m torn. On the one hand, all infant and toddler car seats are fixed back buckets with 5 point harnesses, which makes me think it should be fine if it’s good enough for the smallest humans. On the other hand, OEM seats and belts have a lot of govt regulation and do their job well. One option is to keep the stock belts and use them for daily drives 🤔 As long as the harness bar is good quality and doesn’t fail in a crash, and your belt angle is proper (improper angle can either break your spine or cut into your neck, both possibly fatal risks) you’re probably in reasonable shape. The only other concern is I don’t know if your insurance would pay for your medical care if you got in a crash and were injured due to having “probably not road legal” belts on-worth considering.

not sure if you'll reply but worth a shot, is it possible to trim a slot in the b pillar plastic trim so it can fit under that bracket for the harness bar?
@KameTrick
@KameTrick 2 жыл бұрын
I’m sure it is, body work like that is always possible, and just a matter of how much time you are willing to invest & how skilled you are at trimming & fitting

On a S13 coupe with manual seat belts do I just bolt up to the seat belt bolt because it seems to be in the same exact spot as the one under your pillar
@KameTrick
@KameTrick 4 жыл бұрын
Niko Rowland I’d strongly suspect so. I don’t know for certain since I’ve ever only done this install on my power belts car, but it’s likely that Nissan used the same mounting points to keep assembly costs down 👍🏻
@airsoftmonster51299
@airsoftmonster51299 4 жыл бұрын
Kame Trick ok that’s what I figured like I said it’s a coupe instead of the hatch but the way your pillar is nice and flush mine has the seat belt bolt going straight through it into the car so I’d assume I might not even have to rip it all apart but at the same time I prob need that under the plastic either way not worth cutting corners on your harness 😭😭
@KameTrick
@KameTrick 4 жыл бұрын
Niko Rowland 100% truth! Really a roll bar or half cage is the way to go, and the way I *will* go eventually, but for the time being a run at tracks where there’s low closing speeds in tandem and decent runoff so I think it’s “good enough” for the moment. Always do the best you can on safety gear, though!

Hey what size bolts did you use for the bottom of the support bars?
@KameTrick
@KameTrick 4 жыл бұрын
Uhh Tyler hey dude! I didn’t happen to notate the bolt size, but all I did was remove the OEM seat belt bolt, took it to the hardware store and used their gauge (or an associate can do it for you) to determine the thread pitch of it...then I just bought a longer one. Assuming you already have the OEM bolt installed you have everything you need, just take it to the hardware store and you’re all set✌🏻

Anyone found a way so i would sit somewhat flush? Im thinking washers or something, i just don't like it being at a weird angle

Kame Trick 12:58 how the back part of the mounting surface doesn’t make contact with the pillar. To me that’s kind of sketchy but I thought about getting a longer bolt and using spacers as shims to make the mount sit evenly. Then again it could just be me being picky, any input would be appreciated ✊
@KameTrick
@KameTrick 4 жыл бұрын
Ryan O'Brien gotcha! A longer bolt with a shim would probably have things at a better angle, so you might feel a little better about it, although to be perfectly honest if you get into a big wreck (like street driving) I wouldn’t count on the harness bar itself to hold up that well in the first place...these days I use my car exclusively for drifting and I only tandem with trusted friends where an accident there would be fairly weak compared to a street crash with a random person. When I do Street my car I still use the factory belts in addition to the harness belts just in case the harness bar were to taco 🤷🏻‍♂️ In my case this has been a temporary solution to get better driving position for motorsports and not so much for true safety😅 I’ll be going to a real weld-in cage eventually. Just my two cents. But yeah back to your original question, shims and a longer bolt seems ideal in my humble opinion ✌🏻

Kame Trick appreciate the feedback. 100% unfortunately my s13 is gutted and remains a dedicated drift build so I’m just being picky about the looks. Your videos do motivate me to push out videos on my channel just seeing how big your channel got. Hopefully I get this harness bar in today!
@KameTrick

Ryan O'Brien it’s one of those things where you have to put in the time and effort not knowing if it will generate results, but generally after a while you’ll get somewhere. Best of luck with the build, feel free to drop a comment any time if there’s something I can help with!🙌🏻

u think that bar will fit on a 180sx?
@nxxbs_btw5568
@nxxbs_btw5568 3 жыл бұрын
and if so will ppl still be able to sit in the back seat safely
@KameTrick
@KameTrick 3 жыл бұрын
It will absolutely fit on a 180SX, they should be identical dimensions to a 240SX. And no, I don’t think it’s possible, legal, or safe for people to try to sit in the rear seats when you have a harness bar installed. The bar would probably be touching people’s chin or nose if they tried to sit in the back and they’d get wrecked if there was a crash.
