I would rate this as an medium DIY project. It's not hard, it's just very time consuming. Between taking things apart, all of the sanding, priming, painting, and putting things back together.
What to do:
(1) plan to spend a lot of time taking it apart and a lot of time putting it back together
(2) take lots of pictures
(3) save all of your bolts and take it to your local Fastenal to replace them with brand new stainless ones. You can get regular washers, or washers with rubber ends to better keep the water out
(4) buy yourself some roof Polyurethane Sealant, apply that in all areas that would come into contact with water
(5) buy yourself a large 4 x 4 sheet of gasket and cut just passed the turret support and just before the bearing
(6) buy extra nuts and bolts, you're bound to lose some
Don't
(1) don't rush it
(2) be very careful with the Polyurethane Sealant, it will get everywhere, keep lots of paper towels or rags close by to clean your hands and gloves
(3) don't let your Polyurethane Sealant bunch up too high, otherwise you may rub on it when turning
(4) DON'T let your gasket go beyond the bearing, otherwise when you tighten down your hatch it will pinch and not allow you to turn
(5) if you remember, put your lock rings on after your happy with your support and roof placement. You can do it at the end, but it's more painful
and a must THANK YOU to Todd for all of his assistance. I think we both taught each other something but I was for sure more on the receiving end.
