Really loving it, definitely had to subscribe, which is something I pretty much never do, but it’s well deserved in this instance. Thank you!

As someone who has also recently bought a home, you probably don't understand the least of what you will be doing. I took two weeks off of work to replace the kitchen and bathroom cabinets and It has now been over a month of working and I still have not replaced the kitchen or bathroom cabinets. I have found everything from illegal wiring to massive damage to the insulation from rodents to old termite damage (without any live/active termites, luckily!) undocumented renovations (moving walls, etc.) done mostly wrong, structure cut out completely to run plumbing, hidden asbestos tile that only becomes visible once you start removing tiles, where you can no longer decide to just leave it alone.... I am about $20k in and have only just started working on adding in the cabinets to the kitchen. Cheap counter tops, sink, faucet, garbage disposal, etc are probably going to cost an additional $1k and I still have to do the bathrooms. Luckily I have a lot of time before I have to move out of my current rental!

Jeff for siding penetrations for a cleaner look, use an exterior mounting block that matches your siding color, it eliminates the risk of leaks where you were shown caulking also stops relying on caulk to stop water intrusion, it mimics the blocks that they use on lap siding (without scribing) your siding butts up against it for a clean install. If I remember correctly, Electrical code requires all boxes to be secured.

Plastic flexi vent ducting. Don’t see how that’s code for grease here in USA. All installs I see are sheetmetal ducts and elbows. Maybe Canadia is more lenient because their houses don’t burn.
@MrWaterbugdesign
@MrWaterbugdesign 3 жыл бұрын
@@muzaaaaak I think the duct was provided by the manufacturer Zline which is USA made so it must have pass UL. Not all plastics are the same. Plus the temperature of air 36" above a stove top is not very hot, under 100F I assume. If you have flames shooting 36" high you've got bigger problems than the duct.
@tac4bravo
@tac4bravo 2 жыл бұрын
@@muzaaaaak yeah that’s the duct that’s provided. All these units seem to come with that. When I install mine I will be using metal ducting with elbows, because that smoother airflow also increases the airflow. People have said so in reviews.
@muzaaaaak
@muzaaaaak 2 жыл бұрын
@@MrWaterbugdesign the issue is if you have latent grease on your hood and it catches fire, plastic ducting won’t stop a fire from spreading like 26g metal will. I bought and installed a 36” Zline this summer here in the USA and it didn’t come with plastic flexi duct. I used all metal ducting and mastic tape to seal air leaks. Best hood I’ve ever owned. I'd like to share my valuable experience. My hood came with some really nice metal screw-in type anchors. These normally work very well for me on a variety of applications, but when I got to the part where you install the cover above the hood they pulled right out of the wall, and down came the hood. My advice is to take any plastic or metal drywall anchors and throw them in the trash. Make a bigger hole and use some nice toggle bolts to save yourself some grief. Better still, for a real permanent, quality job, pick out your hood, measure it out on the wall, cut the wall open, and install a 2X4 across where the hood mounting screws go.
@danielconnolly6367

I am dealing with this now. I used the supplied anchors with my hood fan. They are larger than these and are pulling out a little from the wall in my case so there is an annoying gap behind the duct cover. I just missed the stud on one side so I am thinking to take the cover off and screw into the stud at an angle.

I'm doing my entire kitchen and will use the former microwave outlet that is already in place. However, it is not close enough to center so I will need to move it over a bit. That is the one issue that I have though...No instructions or video shows the exact place the outlet should be depending on model. I'm now thinking that there is no set place for it and I should just keep it slightly off center so it will not interfere with the exhaust pipe. Question, is that loose buried electrical box going to pass electrical inspection? Our local inspector would not. Here the romex would need to be run all the way to the j-box in the hood, where the hard connection would be accessible. Not a plug/receptacle.

This is so helpful!! I have a hood similar to this that looks like it is falling down because a gap has appeared between the top and the bottom parts. I'm relieved that it is also afixed to the wall under there. Do you know if it's possible to fix the gap without taking off the whole thing?

Excellent vid, I was thinking about getting a z line hood so this was very helpful. Thank you. I dont like criticizing folks but thats why we all watch you learn and do things different. What I would do dif as far as installing that hood .... i would use the “fire foam” or red foam... and i would use all metal duct work because over the years grease would build up in that corrugated plastic duct. Even though the metal duct is a pain .... thanks for the great vid as always! 👌💪

Hi....just wondering about a hood vent that has a carbon filter so that you don’t have to vent outside? Is this an option? Thanks if anyone can reply

Would you just vent through the roof, for an interior walled fan? I really don’t believe mine is even vented. I see what looks like a vent at the soffit. Doesn’t make much sense. But I need to vent both bathrooms as well. Seems wild to have basically three vent hoods in close proximity on the back of my roof. Mine has the filters where the fan is. So it is designed to filter the air back into the kitchen?

How do you feel about range hoods being vented through the roof in cold climates. Is condensation and cold ingress a factor?

Hi I'm thinking of purchasing the same Z-Line but for 30". I know they're all 400 CFM & I was originally interested in 500CFM. So like you I'm interested in upgrading the 30". How did you do that? Using a Make-up air device? Also using the tape to bang those Molly's in was too funny cuz i do the same thing!! Lol Thanks again for the great video!

I have purchased a ZLINE 28 in. Remote Blower Range Hood Insert in Stainless Steel (698-RS-28-400), however , there aren't instructions about how to place the blower in the basement. I already have a hole in the foundation to vent outside. Will you please consider a video about it.

Great vid! Im about to buy a z line wall hood & just found out that to many models you can add a stainless crown molding to wrap around top of the hood , adds plenty of character. Model I'm going to buy also has option to vent outdoors or recirculating air, going to try my luck on recirculating & hope it does well pulling garlic, fish etc odors away with the charcoal filters it has. Any constructive advice , past experiences welcomed

Call me crazy but once you cut down the metal duct you could have pushed the flexible through and attached to the metal, taped it well and pushed it back through before screwing and caulking the vent. Is it not that necessary to seal that well? Seems like it’s just stuffed in and then foam. With moisture I’d think you want a seal with tape. Ty for all your amazing videos, best channel in KZfaq. I do have one question about venting out the side of the house. I saw one video you did the same for a bathroom vent. I tried to have one installed, as an electrician I ran the electrical, but hvac dude told me don’t vent out the side because the moisture will go up into the eve and cause rot. Wanted to charge a ton to go through attic and roof. Is there any concern with this?

I've done a few of these in the past year. They are a bit of work. Especially the ones that are not against a wall. You have to have the electrical in the attic and special framing for the channel. But it sure does look nice when it's done.

I can tell you right now, most, if not all? I range hoods require metal duct work. Edit. The low end model z line says you can use plastic but their higher end one needs metal. From their instructions. Now if this is really the high end zline then he should have used metal duct work. I guess I've never seen plastic because I've always installed higher end models. Lmao Also after seeing him use the wrong size plastic and then sealing it with expanding foam, I don't know if you should follow this guy's instructions. Duct tape is a real thing that is supposed to be used for this and it's, not just tying people up. Using spray foam to seal duct work is not code anywhere.
