I replaced mine (not a mechanic) without removing anything but the fan, fan shroud, and water pump...... Mountains out of mole hills. this is why you get screwed on hourly shop rates. so grab a wrench and learn to turn. you will save thousands of dollars in the long run

Great video, and I mean great. My truck had coolant leaking and I could see it trickling off the bottom of the harmonic balancer; I wondered if my water pump had failed but also wondered if it could be a leak at the thermostat housing gasket. Without taking everything apart, I just couldn't see the source of the leak, so I googled for the location of the water pump on this truck and this video came up. I figured being only 6 minutes long it was probably not gonna be super helpful, but it's actually one of the best auto repair videos I have seen. You guys struck the perfect balance of providing all the information a non-pro but semi-capable DIYer should know to do the job without going into long-winded tangents. The lighting was excellent, and so was the camera work. THANK YOU! That said, I tried searching the advance auto parts website for the bypass hose and fitting and came up short. Anyone know the part numbers needed for the fitting and hose? (1995 5.9 magnum)

You’re probably done now but barricade garage has a vid on this and many other replacements/installs on a 318. He lists where he gets his parts, the part number, torque specs, it’s a good spot to learn where to get good stuff.

you can remove the accessory bracket with all the shit still on it.... I've been working on these for yrs

Didnt need to take out the ac compressor or altenator

You didn't need to but it's a lot easier to do all this and properly clean the gasket mating surfaces if you do. Sometimes it's more work to be lazy.

Actually I think this is the best video on how to replace the water pump on the 97 because it's easiest way to get to the thermostats and little bypass hose I appreciate the video... doesn't take much time to remove the AC alternator and accessory bracket

Make sure you disconnect the battery before vacuuming the interior.

Here I am, a shade tree mechanic trying to do this, and had no idea there was going to be a problem removing the fan clutch, came to this video for a pointer on how the hell to remove this big ass nut while the water pump moves, and this guy blasts right through my problem with, "just rent a fan clutch removal tool". Without showing anything on how to use the tool.

There's videos. Don't know why this guy skipped showing that part. But your basically holding the water pump pulley and getting a 38 wrench and putting it on the bolt that's holding the fan and Turning it left.

Go to the store that rents the tool and ask them, you dingus. Someone made this video to help you out and you're mad because you still aren't smart enough to problem solve something that simple? You probably should leave the automotive work to someone who can navigate the process of how to Google "how to use a fan clutch removal tool"

I'm a DIY guy for years, but it has been several years since i did a water pump. I forgot if the fan assembly bolt is a lefty bolt. It doesn't say here. I seem to recall they all are. Can somebody hep me ?

If I were to install the water pump with a gasket would I have to apply gasket Maker silicon like this in the video or would it still leak out if I just placed the gasket on it and bolted it back up

My water pump pulley came off with the fan while driving down the road, can I use a hammer to reattached the pulley or do I need a new pump?

I bought a new pump. Cus yea my aunties pulley was freaking loose. Took two of her serpentine belts

I just had mine replaced about a month ago and it’s leaking again already. Gonna talk to the shop that did it. Has anyone had or heard of water pumps having hairline cracks from the manufacturer? Doesn’t seem to be leaking from being under tightened. Looks like it’s leaking from the front where the pulley attaches.

If you actually watch the video and listen he says right in the video that a leaking thermostat housing gasket is commonly mis-diagnosed as a failed water pump. I know your comment is old, but to answer your question, your mechanic replaced a water pump that didn't need to be replaced, and now everything (but not the water pump again) needs to be pulled apart again so that gasket can be replaced. Obviously, listen to the instructions in this video and replaced the bypass hose and fitting, as well as the thermostat and thermostat gasket at the same time.

You don't say even one word about sealant on the bolts that go into the water jacket OR the little 0-ring that comes with your pump!

Yes he does you freaking donut! Good lord! The "sealant on the bolts" isn't "sealant," it's anti-seize, which is exactly what he called it. Go to any auto parts store and ask for anti-seize and they would hold your helpless little baby hand all the way to where they keep the stuff so you don't get scared and wet your pants. As for the o-ring, re-watch the video starting at about 4:45, up until about 5:05. When you finish, go ahead and quietly delete your comment and pretend none of this ever happened. If you come back here and try to double-down on your cringe-inducingly pathetic complaining, you are going to get dragged even harder.

Why do you only hire people who don't know anything about mechanics An entry you like you don't know anything and they know everything? Quit using your company because I'm sick of It. After arguing with a kid last time he asked me how many spark plugs I needed for my 5.9Magnum. It was at that point I just backed away. You're losing business at an alarming rate. Nobody I know even uses your company anymore Most people order online because other auto parts stores are the same way. You're putting yourselves out of business plain and simple
