There's a bunch of weather stripping for windows/ac units/etc at home depot/etc. various sizes/thickness/rolls/strips. I sealed up my portable ac unit window plate very well.

Oh ya, for AC units I’d be all over the weather stripping sealing. But window fans I put up and take down every day, I typically just do it quick and sloppy. For semi-permanent definitely a bit more elbow grease is advised.

Hi thank you for this! So you don't have to remove the window screens from the window in order to install the window fan? I'm purchasing a different window fan but I'm assuming it's pretty much the same across all of them?

Not for most windows and most window fans of this type. And no, it’s not the same for all window fans. Some of the whole house circulator fans need to have window screen removed. But they are big and boxy like window air conditioners.

@poozi2shooz I do. We have pesky mosquitoes where I installed this, worth keeping the screen in. For some windows that don’t have it, I take a screen to the fan.

Great video, thanks! Is it practical to use a window fan installed vertically in a casement window? Would I have to also close the space to the left and/or right of the fan in order to get good airflow?

Yes, vertically is probably better for circulation exchange of different air temperatures. Closing the space won't affect air flow but it will help with air exchange. I would advise closing the space if possible for more efficient results.

I never do. But if the rain is coming in through the window at an angle such that your window sill might get drenched, then you probably should take it down.

I can't think of a good way to do it. There must be some sort of other solution available for your types of windows.

Any tips on how to trace and get a good clean circle cut? (For covering the fans themselves when it isn't in use so i wont lose too much AC/Heat) Thanks.

I haven't tried. Thought about it, but then it was just easier to remove the fan every time. It does get old after a while... Someone needs to come up with a solution. If I come up with one, I'm definitely posting about it.

@@MikeMu I leave mine on low and both outgoing. It creates a vacuum against the blinds where you do not use too much air. Works great!

@@joshuaturner6372 That's a creative solution. I was thinking maybe some sort of saran wrap or the plastic people use to wrap up boxes or items for moving might be the simplest way to do it; maybe in combination with a big rubber band of some sort.

Not for any of the windows I've ever used. You want the fan right up against the screen for best results.

I bought one and i cannot do anything with it. when i plug it in the numbers just go off. i cannot turn it on or anything like that.

Try another plug. Maybe fuse went out on the unit. Or you got a bad one - a few people have reported as such but I never find out what the cause is.

It’s a fan. It will help you feel cooler without actually cooling the room down. But after sunset, using it with an open window will cool most rooms. (By bringing in the cooler outside air inside).

What I have done in the past with windows that have no screens, is get replacement window screens, wrap it on the outside facing side. Tape it down with masking tape. Enjoy fresh air.
