2023 UPDATE- PLEASE READ
We show 2 different gaskets that can be used.
Black gaskets- Place them on as shown, BUT- Do not cut the liner. After taping the gaskets in place, you may line up & attach the skimmer. Then you can cut the square hole in the liner, after the skimmers been tightened up.
White butterfly gasket- if using this gasket you will need to precut the liner, as displayed above in the video.

I have the two piece skimmer. My basket portion is cracked where the hose fitting goes in the bottom. Can the back piece be removed and replaced separate, from the face plate by removing the 4 inner screws? If so how :)

i just installed the standard size skimmer but they didnot show installing gasket on both sides of pool liner inner and outer i did that first but directions didnot show that so i reused gasket from old skimmer on outer side and double gasket is inside pool side bad directions should have went with my first thought and installed the gasket around opening maybe next yere before refill no leaks anyways

this is wrong guys the rubber gasket for the return goes outside the pool. basically return face, rubber gasket, liner, wall, rubber gasket, cork gasket, plastic tightening nut. if there is a rubber gasket in between the liner and the wall u can pierce the liner easily there...

in the past I've installed the skimmer without cutting the liner. cut away the liner after the skimmer is installed. I do see the 2 sided gasket that would require cutting first to install.

SticksNkicks the instructions state to install the gasket and faceplate then further down it says to use the face plate as a guide to cut the liner once its installed. This is confusing me because I did my last one like the video shows now I'm not sure.

The rectangle opening on my pool looks a lot smaller than that. Should I be worried about purchasing this kind of skimmer?

I'm currently doing this job today and my gasket is a bit different. It doesn't appear to be the butterfly style. Any advice for me on how to properly install?

i cut the liner and the liner instantly sagged and now is too large to fit around the gasket... although there is no gap on the bottom side of skimmer plate... I'm worried this will be an issue?

Yes, it could be an issue if you can't get it to line up again. I'm not a fan of skimmers that require you to cut it out in order to place the one-piece gasket. If you have the skimmer that uses two separate pieces (front and back) then you simply install the skimmer completely and THEN cut the liner out of the inside of the skimmer opening. Good luck.

the great escape installers cut the opening of the skimmer part after it was completely on and tightened down so no sag can happen just in case

That's great! This is the correct way to go about cutting the opening for the skimmer!

YOU are wrong what you are showing people. If you have that double seal it goes between the steel pool wall. Attach the skimmer first then cut the liner. If you CUT the liner first it can move on you. If you want to install a skimmer find a better video, not from this dou-dou.

Thank you for your feedback. There are several ways to install gaskets & this video was made based on the manufacturers directions for installation. For people interested in the above commented method, please note that the liner will not be included between the "double seal" butterfly gasket. It will be outside the gasket seal, being held down by the frame of the skimmer.
