Here is a quick tutorial on how to remove your factory radio and install an aftermarket head unit in your Mercedes Benz R129. Model of car is 2001 Mercedes Benz SL500. This was an easy plugin and play unit.

Keep in mind to disconnect the Negative from the battery so you don’t accidentally fry your radio. Good job on the new radio man!

I have a 1998 Mercedes C230, The radio was busted, so I went to the junkyard and was able to find the exact radio, but it was off a 1994 vehicle, so to get the code I had to go all the way back to the junkyard which was 40 miles for me, and get the Vin number off the car in junkyard, But it works now and I’m very happy, I got this Mercedes for $250 and it is in very nice condition

You could send the old unit to “Becker Auto Sound “ in NY .They manufacture the stereo for Mercedes and they repair units and can add Bluetooth also in case you like the look of the old unit for the car . Just an idea 👍

I have an 02 BENZ with the same stock radio, you think my steering volume controls would work with that aftermarket unit? Or they are connected with the telephone connector?

when you inserted the new player did it click into place? And if so, would you use the same Mercedes keys you showed to pull it back out?

It fits in perfectly, no clicks though. The aftermarket radio's head frame is bulge and wide enough that you can just pull it out with a little bit of finger pressure. No keys needed

Yup. Easy plugin and play. Although you may have some swish speak sound in the background if you have nothing playing.

We're you planning on securing the mounting sleeve to the opening? Also, I can't believe for a second that an R129 happened to have the exact same working harness with the exact same pinout as your Amazon radio. There's some serious misrepresentation if some critical installation steps here.

You need to check the wires are in right place ie left front speaker and most importantly the 12v ignition supply you could burn your ecu out just because the plug fits don't mean the wires are right
