Anybody that comes to this video to see the wiring part all i did was run the ground of each light to the body of the vehicle and ran the power to the purple wire on my trailer wire harness. The purple wire on my trailer harness is the reverse signal light....or if you choose to you can also run a seperate switxh to the cabin area of the vehicle to turn them on manually

These sorts of lights are not legal for road use, is there a way of adding something to the circuit so you can dim them when reversing whilst on roads? And did you add a relay? If not have you experienced any issues? Is it crucial when wiring to existing circuits to add a relay?
@AllThingsCool
@AllThingsCool 5 жыл бұрын
@@khanara6 dont think theres a way to dim them only option would be to get a lower watt light or run the lights to a switch to turn it on and off when u use them. I did not run a relay no need these dont pull alot of power. My lights still work with no problems hope this helps

I have a different style of these same brand light for my reverse lights. You'll have to check your state laws, because they are "off-road" you may not be allowed to wire them to a switch (in case you forget to shut them off). However, I have mine wired to my reverse lights and have never had any issues or trouble with using them as such. I had a leak in one of mine and the customer service from Nilight was fantastic. 10/10 would recommend this brand for the cost and quality.

I did this same thing to my truck a few years ago. Works great and really lights it up behind you. I suggest taping off the bumper and using rust-o-leum spray paint on newly exposed metal. After about a year I had rust stains running down my bumper because I didn’t paint it.

Nrfa It's easy as hell all you need is a switch, relay and wire or just run it off the reverse if you don't need work lights.
@Jimmy-qy6gk
@Jimmy-qy6gk 6 жыл бұрын
jeremy s .....he said exactly how he wired it. He ran the “Red” power to the purple trailer hitch wire and grounded them both separately. Fairly easy if you are familiar with wiring. If you want to run a control switch to switch on/off whenever then you should buy a relay harness from eBay or Amazon which is ideal for led bars or spot lights.

I’m planning on doing roughly the same deal but I’m mounting where I already have a ding in the bumper. Cheaper than a new bumper and functional! If you are ever backing up a trailer at night you want these on a separate switch than your reverse lights...

I did the same thing with the old model 4 led floods, one died, so I upgraded to the 6 led with Amber strip. When I did it the first time I used a dremel to cut the bumper, and the second time I used some single sided foam tape on the back of the lights as the bumper has a curve to it. Mine is wired to a switch inside rather than the reverse lights as they're more work lights than reverse lights as I also have a custom headache rack with a 24" triple row on it. (There is a video of the lights at night on my "channel", but it would be rude to post an actual link)

I'll back these lights as being a good bang for their buck. Have had the same lights mounted in my rear bumper for almost 1.5 years. Still as bright as day one. Tied in to my reverse wire and a switch to a couple diodes, then to a relay, allowing me to independently switch on/off without triggering my reverse lights. If I need to use them as "Fuck you" lights to them tailgaters, or hook up my trailer in the dark, I don't need to be in reverse to do so. Few extra bucks for the electrical parts, but they are worth it.

@@mjh5091 that's a great idea. Got a video of how you did it?
@mjh5091
@mjh5091 5 жыл бұрын
@@78ginop Sorry, no video was produced. But got the idea from a car camera set up where they wired the back up camera the same way so it can be turned on when reversing wasn't needed. But I ran a + line from my battery, with a 10 amp inline fuse, to the relay (located near my rear bumper) for constant 12v. I then ran a + line for my on/off switch located inside the cab to my fuse panel and found an open "constant on" port and used a fuse tap connector. Then I ran a + line from the switch and my reverse wire off my towing harness, took those 2 + lines and connected those to two 5 amp diodes, and on the pass through side of the diodes I twisted and connected them together and ran to the switched power port of my relay (which allows me to independently power with the reverse or with my switch). I then took the power supply/out port of my relay and made a 6"+ jumper wire and took the 2 + wires from the lights and used a quad wiring connector to connect those wires. I grounded my relay to the - wire from my towing harness and did the same with the - wires for the lights the same I did for the + side using the quad connector. I also put in usb ports at the same time and used the - wire from my cigarette lighter to ground both the switch and usb ports. My goal was for it to look professional and to take safety precautions and so far so good. You can easily do this without the relay and just use inline fuses, but a relay isn't that much and just add extra safety to the wiring system. If this is confusing, I'd agree with you

BIG improvement over the standard backups. I'm adding a set of the SAME lights to my 09 Jeep Liberty. My set did come with a wiring harness but I'm going to re-purpose that to a 2nd set of FRONT lights. Lots of people put in relays between the rear LED lights and I noticed you didn't My idea was to do the same thing. Wire the electrical feed into the backup lights so they all come on at the same time. Has anyone run into any "issues" doing this? I would use an inline fuse and all a little concerned about just taping into the backup lights power supply with LED's. In shorts, have you had any problems since they were installed? I can tape into my hitch harness if needed, I have both options. Great video by the way.
@AllThingsCool
@AllThingsCool 6 жыл бұрын
tc1uscg no issues at all, the lights still work fine. I feel running it to the trailer harness is a better option then tapping into the rear lights. The trailer harness purpose is to run a lights to it where the backup lights might not like the extra load just my thinking

I got the same exactly lights and they came with a harness that was half the size i needed, i got a 4th gen ram 1500.. i was just wondering wiring them like you did wouldn't give you issue with people behind you or cops or shit like it ??
@AllThingsCool
@AllThingsCool 4 жыл бұрын
It's been 3 years and no complaints from anyone including cops. I rather run them this way rather then using a manual switch. It just streamlines the whole install plus how much of a pain would it be to always have to flip a switch everytime you put your vehicle in reverse so you can benefit from the lights you installed shit half the time you would prolly forget.....

I don't have a reverse camera. I think if I choose these lights I will mount further to the ends of the bumper vs closer to the center. May work better while using the side mirrors. Thoughts?

at $10 each, I'm curious how they've lasted over the years. I'm sure they are not all that efficient due to the cheap LED chip and reflector housing from my experience in cheap LED sets in the past. Headlight Revolution has some good units for sale but at a higher cost. I've been happy with my Rigid light pods as well

@@AllThingsCool That's where I found it, but didn't say the company as it might be a competitor. The only draw back to me is I don't see a theft prevention in removing the lights. Any ideas?

@@clasicradiolover not really due to the design of how the lights just use a bolt and nut to mount the light to the hitch mount.

So, on the electrical, let me see if I understand: all I need to do is ground each of the negative wires on the lights, and then tap in to the positive running to the factory backups? I don't need any extra power for these? Thanks! And very nice video!
