Today I show you how to install Coilovers on a c5 Corvette. This process is almost identical to a c6 Corvette also if you are working on that generation. I want to use the normal lowering bolt option and the bolts were ceased. It pretty common for this to happen. Instead of trying to remove the bolt I upgraded to a set of viking coilovers. This is the best mod to a c5 and c6 corvette I have ever done. The ride quality after the coilover install is SO MUCH better I can't believe I haven't done this on other corvettes I have owned. At the same time I added c6 Z06 wheels, new tires and Window tint. The C6 Corvette wheels fit great on the C5 and look amazing. The tint on windshield of the Corvette is 35% with the sides being 5%. I loved the c5 frc and z06 body style slammed. Probably one of my favorite cars I have owned from the looks department. This is one slammed corvette. What looks better than a lowered corvette?

I was on the fence but this definitely helped me decided to go with coilovers. I had my 01 vette dairly slammed on stock bolts and had a nice stance, probably 3/4 inch difference from you have now. However, I'm looking for ride quality as much as anesthetics. My other concern is to minimize scrapping since I have super charger and the blow off valve being the lowest part but I built a scrap plate for it. Btw- excellent install instructions and great brand choice. Those are same i have looking at.

I feel your pain slammed on stock bolts, to the point of negative camber on the front, too tight on the back to the point of positive camber on the rear. I don't know if the previous owner had it set up with a track alignment, or just liked the looks. Its hell on tires though.... S/C LSX 454 here so the iron block doesn't help either, but my blowoff with an A&A corvette S/C kit is OK.

Just came across this video. I'm looking to do the same on my C6 and I know it's pretty much the same as the C5 when it comes to coilovers so thanks for the great info. Your Vette looks damn good by the way! I sometimes want to buy a C5 Z06 or FRC but last thing I need is 2 Vettes because we all know that's just more money in car parts haha. Happy wrenching man.

Your car looks Awesome, great video. Now I know what I need to do to my 2003 Z06 Corvette. Look up C7 carbon, I have there complete carbon fiber aero package, splitter, side skirts and rear spoiler. My Vette is red.

Looks great, I don't think I can manage that low around here, I need to get baseline first, but it is pretty close to slammed already. Have to replace my air dams on both sides they are at least 1 " too low, even had to re bend my radiator scoop supports, and my S/C intercooler scoop brackets as well. They were both hitting and bent to within 1/2 " of the ground on level ground. I really have no complaints about my Z06's ride stock looking forward to see how it rides with coils.

For anyone with seized front bolts you'll find it doesn't take much for the whole assembly to start turning inside the spring, especially when applying heat. When this happens don't panic the bolt and it's captive nut can be knocked out of the spring easily from above (from the hex end). Then on a bench it'll be easy to free up with help of a vice and heat. I just did this on a removed spring. I apologise in advance if knocking them out is really difficult with the spring on the car but I think it should be possible. Clean all the bits and use two part epoxy to set the captive nut part back into the spring.

Well done video but on bit of advice; Anytime you reuse factory bolts use loctite blue on the threads as many times without it they can loosen up over time with use,especially during Track time.

Love the look. I have a 2002 C5 magnetic red II convertible and want to lower it. I never thought of changing the leaf spring to coil over. It doesn't look. difficult to change but it does look tight. Any concerns on high G turns like on a clover leaf on ramp? Was there a weight savings or gain? Great job of the install. Awesome video and how-to as well. I just placed an order for the Viking coilovers for my C5. My spring rates are a little different then what you have so hopefully they'll be okay. Can't wait to install them after hearing your comments about them. I'm curious about how you still like them after being on for almost a year now and how they've held up? If you don't mind me asking, what dimension did you wind up with for the final adjustment you were happy with? You mentioned the measurements were from the top of the bottom jam nut and the bottom of the top adjustment nut. Car looks great with those wheels on it too. Awesome job with that car. 😎👍

Thank you. They are holding up great. I don't drive it a lot though. I don't remember the measurements because I adjusted 100 times to get the look I wanted.

Looks amazing, I have a C6 and want to install coilovers as well. Mine is a base Z51 with Z06 wheels that sit a little proud on the rear too and was a little leary of lowering because of rubbing issues. Have you had any problems ? Thanks Don.

Love the stance you ended up with! I'm curious, are those OEM C6Z wheels? I think OEM are 12" wide in the back and thought they would poke more than that. Curious because I have a C5z and was considering those wheels myself.

dude this is a great video. im in search of something for my c6 i have it slammed on aftermarked bolts and shocks bottom out very easy. and it rides like straight shit. after a couple years its getting old. i put a new front spoiler on and it lasted a week. i hit something in the road at night. im curious if these every bottom out? if it would be as low as mine currently is ? id really like something like air bags to raise the car up to clear road debris. wonder if u could put aie cups in these coilovers ?

They will get as low as bolts and I have never bottomed them out. Sounds like ridetech may be your best option

Car looks great! I want to run the same wheels on my base coupe. Did you have to do anything to fit the c6z wheels? spacers in the rear or anything? Thanks

I didn't use spacer but they will rub with coilovers on the leaf spring

How did you get the wheels to fit? My rears rub on the inner well at the top. Did u use any spacers

No spacers. Tire size combined with coilovers help that.
