This is exactly what I do, I was doing that before this video and I can tell that this man is totally right! The key point is really to slide the tire under the insert in the center channel of the rim... Regarding the issue with new tire, the problem is that the tire is not holding on the rim so it is difficult because you have one hand to hold the tire and the other to make your way Arround the wheel... New tires always want to pop off... So what you can do is place the tire and attach it with a zip tie! This way you have both hands to go around the rest of the wheel :)
@SingleTrackSurgeon
@SingleTrackSurgeon 3 жыл бұрын
I've never had to do the zip tie trick since once you get the bead underneath the cush core it olds it in place really well. But not all tire/rim combos behave the same for sure.

Awesome vid! I just installed Cushcore on both tires with the help of this video. First tire was cake. 29-2.6 maxxis assegai. Second tire was the biggest pain in my ***. 29-2.4 maxxis dhr DD. Cranking on the tire levers as hard as I did made me concerned I would bend my new rim D: After shoving the tire as deep into the center dip as I could and using a plastic tire lever in the center of the bead that was still outside the rim, I managed to get it set with only some scraped up decals. This is probably the worst case scenario for putting in Cushcore, and I wouldn't recommend... But if you're like me and don't want to replace a $100 tire, it can work. Also, I had to use AirShot's 1.5L tire inflator bc I didn't have a compressor. Happy shredding!

The valve ports are supposed to perpendicular to the tire. Then when you install the cushcore, the reliefs (there are two on spots on the cushcore) are suppose to sit on the valve.

@@roddas26 I have, and as I stated a brand new cushcore should not be able to just slip in like a tube. I use both DH and DD tires during race season and I never have an issue. The trick is to really get that one side DEEEEEEP in the well of the rim. Take your time and really get that bead underneath the cush core before even starting to seat the other side.

@@SingleTrackSurgeon Thanks for the response! I tried getting the one side deep in the well but it just doesn't seem to want to set all the way around. @@Cyndicatedj As you start to seat the final side, don't be afraid to go back and forth. Inflating to 40-60 PSI can usually do the trick (assuming you do this at the time of installation) Sometimes the edge of the bead can be sticky, and I've seen people put a small bit of soapy water on the edge of the rim when they first inflate the tire. How long does cushcore last before it needs replacement?
@SingleTrackSurgeon
@SingleTrackSurgeon 4 жыл бұрын
I've had mine in a full season without needing to replace them. Cushcore recommends that when they don't form a tight fit over the rim they need to be replaced. Since once they reach that point, they don't assist as much with cornering stability. One thing I didn't add in the review or the installation video is how much they prevent tire wear and tear. Obviously you won't be cutting slits in your tires as often, but the actual tire wear is drastically delayed. I'm getting nearly twice as much mileage out of a set of tires. And with four tire changes on this set of inserts I've probably saved around $300 in tires alone.

@SingleTrackSurgeon

No problem, I often use a 2.3 in the rear for faster rolling speeds. I probably wouldn't go much smaller than that though because the lateral pressure on the cushcore will lift the insert out of the slot that helps stabilize the tire. And that's one of my favorite benefits that they provide.

@@eriknash8783 Now that is very possible, like an FR571 + Maxxis is one of the more difficult ones. And the new DH (non-wire bead) are just as durable and much easier to install. If you are patient, and when it gets hard just go the other direction, you might even impress yourself with how easy it is.

This is sort of like following the included directions except with added misinformation (directions specifically say no orientation needed on valves) and it takes 16 minutes to watch and hear him say actually 20 times. The directions take 30 seconds to read.

@@SingleTrackSurgeon I watched 2 more tutorials after yours , they were extremely helpful and to the point in a much shorter time. If I was to make a tutorial video on something I felt proficient in , it would be much like their videos. The full process shown , no edits and no waffle.

I just installed a set with a DD in the front and a DH casing in the rear and had no problem using the same process.

Singletrack Surgeon , good for you, but you are a surgeon soo... I just did exo and dd back to back and they where completely different. Its thicker and harder to stretch lol how could it be just as easy? If you dont have much of a shallow section on your rim you cannot push it in the center too gain any extra slack.
