OH NO! #TVTOOHIGH! Love the content and Love the entire reno. I always get excited when I see an upload from you. You can hang your TV as high as you want LOL! I recommend lowering it to eye level while sitting on the couch though. You are truly an inspiration! I wish I had the drive to accomplish a project like this. The absolute mountain of skill you have had to acquire for this project is insane! Not only have you learned all of this as you go, you have taught me while you did it too!! Keep on keep'n on friend!

That tool you are using to click them together is called baksmälla in Swedish. The same word for hangover. I'm used silicon at the passing between tiles and wood in my kitchen. The passing is frequently used since 2008 and is still working. I putted oak-floor in all my ground floor from kitchen into living room and to the hall and then to the hallway. It was many walls to fit with not to narrow pieces. It draw it in my CAD first so I could start with a suitable floor piece and then could later fit in to all the walls.

14:04 You say you think it's going to take 1-2 days but instead it takes 1-2 weeks. Making videos/documenting what you're doing definitely slows things down tremendously. So it's no surprise ;)

Yup - that heating is really simple - I did mine my self (licensed electrician came at the end and checked everything and gave me green light to turn it on). I am very happy to see your progress.

I have a question. Why electrical heating? One benefit with the typical water based heating is the passive heat the concrete and water will give off even with the heating turned off. In my Home, we essentially turn off the hole house heating when we are not home and the temperature doesn't drop for days. Electrical heating seems a bit expensive for heating over the winter. Still AWESOME work. More people have to put effort into learning skills for home renovation like you do. I grew up in a household where we do most stuff ourselves, and I find it builds confidants and teaches Problem-solving. Things missing in many these days.

Before Putin invaded Ukraine, electricity in Norway was very cheap so electrical heating was the preferred method to heat your floors. There were still water based heating installed, but it was typically used in bigger projects.

@@Atlantisxx also if you look at the first few episodes of this series you can see that this floor is not at all suitable for water based floor heating and would require way more work to get that installed

@@fromaflafl2198 The house is insulated with dirt between each apartment. If you accidentally have a water leak in those type of houses. Ya are in a loooot of trouble. So it is safer and cheaper to just go Electrical and not have to worry about potential leaks as a DIY. EDIT: Basically, before the leak is discovered. All the dry dirt would be saturated and swell to a degree that makes the floor weight a lot heavier not to mention, spread the moisture around all wood beams. Etc. Unless a company takes the blame for the installation, he... as a DIY, wouldn't do it. Just not safe or sane.

I understand the transition! I installed 2500 sq ft of floating flooring in an entire house with no transitions! It took two weeks and a lot of measuring. Lasers are a must! What I found out was my house sits on the foundation out of square! Wall are not straight even if they look like they are! 😆

It’s looking fantastic Alex, well done on the flooring 👍 I think the thing about expecting things to take less time is true of many DIY magicians, we always think about timescales from what we have heard or have been told but these times are for professional workmen to do the job, not for people who have never fitted flooring or only once or twice, and you doing the herring bone pattern you had to do probably and extra couple of hundred cut or so. So kudos for doing it in the time you did 😊👍😎

Looks great! I had no idea that there was specific flooring designed for herring bone pattern. I've done floating flooring before but there were a lot of tips you packed in that I had never thought of. Thanks for sharing!

It is amazing idea having radiant floor heating system by yourself. Will you make one year review of the floor and heating? I appreciate your work. Currently, I'm planning to have a floor heating system with tile entire house. Which could be taking more time and money. I'd like to decide after your one year experience.

I'm so happy for you getting to spot that you have something semi finished, aka a place to relax. you're close but I'd say you have another 3-4 months, so be strong it's almost over. And most importantly be patient with yourselves, if it was easy people wouldn't hire others to do it for them.

I regrated installing the same type of floor heating !!! Using them is WAAAY more expensive then a simple airconditioning running non stop, so now, i just use the airconditioning and my floor is cold ! Make sure you have an alternative !!!!

Absolutely loving this series! The perseverance and willingness to learn and try is a real inspiration. I'm super pumped to reno the ground floor of our house - just need to convince my partner that it'll be worth living in a building site for a while 😅. One question though: Did you fully plan out the whole reno before you started, or have you kind of developed your ideas as you've worked through it?

Eventually this series will be done. The apartment we've spent a year watching get built will be finished. Then it will be their personal space and we likely won't see inside it again - not that we actually have any right to peer into their personal living space, but after becoming so familiar with the place, it will be an odd feeling to no longer be able to virtually "come visit". At any rate, it's been very interesting, and I'm glad they've shared it with us.

How much kWH will this use? I think electric heating makes sense in a small bathroom, but not in the whole apartment. A heat pump would be much more efficient. that being said, i really enjoy this series 😃 /

Those foils are usually either 60 or 80W/m^2. So I'd guess somewhere between 2-3kW for the living room in his case.

Just wondering why there is no foil layer underneath to reflect the heat upwards? Herringbone, you just had to make your life more difficult. Floor down! From now on... "mind the floor!". Thank you for this series it is so engaging and fascinating. When the apartment is done I have no belief that you will just settle into it. I bet you start another one within a year.

You only do a plastic foil layer underneath if it is a linoleum floor, because of the danger of gas buildup from the heat or if it is a "wet room" as we call it in our rule book for electrical code.

It's crazy how tight the eu seems to be about hiring licensed people to do work (like electricians) compared to North America (canada) where I can do everything and anything I want to in my house. Great video keep them coming.

It's the same in Australia as well. Electricans and Plumbers are required to sign off on things. Yet you can buy all the stuff you need at the hardware store. So how many people do you reckon go stuff it and do it anyway... :P

@@petpaltea There are indoor monoblocks which only need some pipes to the outside. But even those take up quite a bit of space and I believe the pipes cannot be too long. So probably also not an option here if we look at this appartement.

Would love to know if you could have two separate zones of electric floor heating in the same room. I know it is already done but it could've been handy to allow you to heat the area by the sofa independently of the kitchen.

You should’ve put flooring under the cabinets and saved you a lot of cutting and measuring. Flooring under cabinets are also more future proof

IIRC, when they installed herringbone flooring in the past, they ran boards straight along the walls as a border, which would take up the room that caused those tiny triangles.
