In this video we take the AutoEdit 2013 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon JKU and update the steering components with the full Metal Cloak heavy duty chromoly tie rod and drag link and the Rocksport steering stabilizer.
This is a fairly easy installation and is a must when running big tires on your Jeep.

Thanks for the great video. I hadn't planned on ordering anything from MetalCloak during their black friday sale, but this video sent me over the edge. Tie rod, drag link, and steering stabilizer just got ordered. I was just in your neck of the woods for Thanksgiving visiting family. I broke away on Sat morning and checked out DrinkWater Flats OHV by myself. It was cool. The 1st climb up the mountain from the road was a little intimidating, but my JKU did fine. Keep up the great video installs.

Completed this build thanks to you over the weekend. It is such a great upgrade. Took me a some time to install with removal of the worn out gear. Fork tool was a blessing. Instant difference with very smooth steering. Used your advise with looking down the outside of the wheel to temporarily align the front and it worked out great. My 2010 Rubicon JKU and I are super happy.

I bought a used 07 JK X a little over a year ago and remember watching this video and looking at the price for this kit and thinking “jeez that’s pricey, I’ll never be there!” But here I am already ordered the track bar and about to order this kit myself! All MC’d out and working on suspension before I move on to my UD install. Love the channel and as the time passes I still find myself watching these videos for the info and just for the fun of it!

Your Jeep build has been the inspiration for mine. So far I am running the MetalCloak 3.5” Game Changer (I did opt for the RockSport shocks), MetalCloak Overland fenders in aluminum, and 37” Toyos wrapped around Method Racing bead locks. I just added this steering upgrade to my MetalCloak wishlist. They need to thank you for the business!! I really need you to slow down so I can keep up with your build! HAHA I would love to wheel with you one day Jason, keep up with the amazing build and videos!

Great video as always. Nice upgrade. And those tie rods are that lose straight out of the factory. But agree you do need to upgrade those parts with all the other upgrades like your doing. Just didn’t want someone with stock jeep worried about their tie rod. Glade to see another video from you. Hoping to see some trail to sema videos from you. That trip looked awesome.

Hey Jason, thanks for the inspiration to upgrade my steering components. I was at 59,000 miles and starting to get a little wobble from the steering wheel. After checking things out I found my tie rod ball joints were worn. I did order the metalcloak steering components rocksport edition. It all went in as easy as you showed on your video. The only thing I ran into was that I couldn’t properly center my steering wheel. The alignment shop dialed it all in. I really like the way the steering feels, and no shaking steering wheel. Couldn’t send you a picture. Otherwise I would. I’m driving a 2013 manual JKUR with a 2.5” Teraflex spring lift, a Teraflex monster track bar, Rancho 9000 adjustable shocks, and 35” B.F. Goodrich KO2 All Terrains. Can’t wait to get my rig in the dirt to see how that feels as well.

Just did this Metalcloak tie rod and drag link install, along with a FOX ATS steering stabilizer. This video made it so straightforward Jason! Pickle fork separator didn’t work for me and I didn’t have the tool you used. Pitman arm separators I saw were too big for the space under the Wrangler. The one thing that did work easily for me was a 3/4 in. Ball Joint Separator I picked up from Harbor Freight. Off in less than a minute!

My thoughts on steering changes on this lift are to leave the stock geometry for now. 3.5" is right on the border... any higher and yes for sure on high steer but since I want to maximize my up-travel, that would be limiting.

Another great vid Jason. Thanks! Scott ever recommend High steer drag and roll center raised trackbar bracket? Seems a lot of manufactures and forum posts make it sound like you need it to prevent bump steer and body roll with lifts 3 inches and up. You haven't had any issues?

Awesome video man! I love my MC products on my 2014 JKU Rubicon X. One thing unrelated. Get some Fluid Film and start drenching the underside of your jeep, the frame, inside the frame, everywhere, etc, with it every month or so. It'll keep it from rusting. It attracts, dirt and sand, but who cares. That stuff is easily rinsed off when you need to, and it's the underside of a Jeep, so again....who cares. Rather have dirt than rust. You take very good care of your Jeep, and even with that care, it's still rusting. (Damn Jeeps). The Fluid Film will keep it from doing that for a long long time if you stay on top of it. Take care dude!

I lift the front by the axle tube right next to the differential (center) and then put my jack stands under the ends. My buddy Fred jacks under the differential and lifts it high enough to account for the uneven lift. Hope that helps... Thanks so much for watching and saying hey!

Did you notice any difference in steering wheel feel when upgrading?

You're changing the bumper again? I like the current one though. Have you ever had that "Death Wobble" issue with your jeep?
@AutoEdits
@AutoEdits 6 жыл бұрын
Yep, bumper upgrade again... my life with the Jeep has changed and parts need to accommodate that! I've never experienced that with this Jeep and I drive it really hard... on highway and off road. Even after my driveway alignment, the thing did the 120 mile freeway round trip on thanksgiving day like a champ!

Nice steering upgrade and I’m looking forward to seeing your bumper upgrade. Will you be installing a winch as well I don’t remember if you have one or not? Again thanks for sharing until next time.

@AutoEdits Jason, Looking at a 2016 bone stock rubicon 4d 3.6 liter auto 5sp Death wobble & Oil pump problems are my biggest concerns. Before I jump in, any suggestions? You have an Auto 5sp vs manual 6sp recommendation? Excellent content!!!

The rotation you noted in the tie isn't a good indicator of tie rod end (not a ball joint, they are in the end of the axle where the knuckles attach) wear. Instead lateral movement and up/down play are a better indicator. Definitely look like stout replacements and I like the double adjustment for wheel alignment.

You are correct and thanks for that! These were worn but I couldn't show the lateral movement with the tires off!

Tie rod ends, not ball joints. Although technically they are a type of a ball joint. If you call a parts store for ball joints that's not what your going to get.

Great Video! One question.. Why No Drag Link Flip Kit?
@AutoEdits
@AutoEdits 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Because I only went with the 3.5" lift the drag link flip would limit my up travel and so far the thing steers pretty good as is. Maybe with more lift or bigger tires it would help but for now I like it.
