Completely legitimate! I like having the freedom to run the software locally, and not only train my own models, but also experiment with those that others have created. Nothing wrong with the amazing paid services out there.

I think there are a few benefits. One is more control, you don't have to worry about as much censorship, TOS or service outages/slowdowns. Another is potentially speed if your computer is fast enough, and not having to wait in a queue for your image generation to start. And of course there is cost, as you don't have to pay a subscription fee or be limited to what you can do with free tiers on other services. Also, 17GB isn't really massive by today's standards, that's smaller than a lot of games. That said, if none of that matters to you, then the other options have their own strengths and weaknesses as well that may better suit your needs.

@olive8604 Ahhhhhhh, thanks. I was not aware you could effectively download the Ai software and use your PC as a standalone Ai generator. If I understand you correctly? I thought this was some downloaded plug in, that just enhanced the online Ai platforms, somehow. As I mentioned, I am still taking all this Ai content in, and not fully conversant with it all. This does appeal to me, a lot, and I must carefully watch more of this channel's videos and try it for myself. Ideally, I would like to be able to do Ai image and media creation that is my own, and I have the rights to.

Do you have a GPU in your system? As long as you have a fairly modern nvidia or amd GPU, you should be ok to run everything.

You can skip the python install and all of that although it nicked is just going to check for that stuff in the install process for you anyway. I prefer the invoke ui hands down. I do still use automatic for things like controlnet.

Which GPU do you have now? Generally I prefer NVIDIA cards for AI related tasks since they have tensor cores that are used to parallel process these types of tasks. Anything with 8+ GB of VRAM should work well: amzn.to/3kVlguo

@@allyourtechai Thanks for the reply. I currently have an NVIDIA GeForce GT 1030. Processor is an Intel i7-2600K, 3.4Ghz with 16GB of RAM. It's a bit older but runs like a champ so I'm hesitant to upgrade the whole CPU. But I'm probably going to spring for that new graphics card to run this!

Both are likely about the same. This stuff in general is pretty GPU intensive.

Do you know if you are running the latest version of Invoke? There were a few releases that would fall back to CPU based on a package dependency. I would also make sure it is configured with CUDA. You might have just missed that option. If so, you can edit the configuration as one of the startup commands and make sure CUDA is enabled and configured.

Invoke ai does work on an amd gpu. If you go to their website directly, there is a link with amd specific install directions. I don’t think any other systems work on amd hardware yet (automatic1111 for example)

Yeah, I did and other people have detected viruses (Backdoor:Win32/Bladabindi!ml and Trojan:Win32/Casdet!rfn) now recently. Some people in the comment section of the download link have noticed this too. So I'd be careful.

There are specific instructions on the invoke ai site for amd. I don’t think they work very well in general for stable diffusion because they lack the hardware to accelerate ai related tasks that nvidia cards have.

That card runs in half precision mode, so it does have difficulty rendering a full 512X512 image. You can give it a shot, but you might run into issues there. (VRAM will also be a limiting factor)

Good call out. I haven't been able to find anything that suggests it's malicious, but always good to be cautious.

@@allyourtechai It's officially ignored since months. They have a thread in their discussions section at github about that. And the manual has simply no section or advice how to uninstall it.

@@HoriaArabul You better ask this the InvokeAI makers. I have uninstalled InvokeAI at the same day i have installed it, and continuted with the Automatic1111 version. I seem to remember though that this should now work.
