I have my idle adjusted correctly however when going into WOT it won’t come back down to idle speed I have set when in neutral, revs too high to shift back into gear. Only setting I can get it to fall back to appropriate idle speed is not near WOT. Appreciate your videos.

Thanks for watching my video and your kind comment! There are three things it could be. The cables, the controller or the engine itself. I would disconnect the cables completely and see if you can use your hands to move the throttle. If that works, then check the cables for free movement by disconnecting them from the controller. If they don't, buy new ones. If those two are good, take apart the controller and grease it. I have videos on how to grease the cables and how to take apart the controller. Your video says to connect the throttle cable to the throttle arm with the scre, plate, spring and nut but it doesn't show the connection. I've never looked at it properly connected so don't know how I can configure it to look like your photo. My cable has come detached, yet the screw, plate spring and nut are still attached. So that means the screw doesn't go through the cable end. If not, what does the cable end fit over? I can't feel any stub on the arm or the plate other than the tiny little thing on the plate. My plate looks just like your photo, but the throttle cable won't attach to that tiny little bump. Thanks for any help.

What is the piece called where the 2 cables slide in (it's plastic and slides back and forth when you move shifter from forward to reverse) was told theybare notorious for cracking but can't find the part without a name. Thanks in advance nice video liked saved and subbed.

Hi my Merc control box is a side mount starboard side console what do you recommend? seems most are mounted to the right side of gunnel. Good video

Thanks for watching my video and your kind comment! The control box can be mounted anywhere as long as the cables are run to the engine in a smooth manner that they won't kink. I have a 9.9 4 stroke Merc I would like to use as a kicker. This motor is a pull start and has been used as a kicker before. Sense i don`t need power to the motor can I use Merc. controls for just the throttle and shifting?.

Thanks for watching my video Mike! If it is just going to be used as a back up motor, I do not think you would want to go to all the trouble to install cables and a controller. Most back up (kicker) motors have a tiller handle (as shown here): www.boatus.com/magazine/2013/june/how-to-count-a-kicker.asp It would be a lot of money and hassle just for a motor that basically sits there most of it's life. Hi I need help I got a 115hp Mercury and when you put it into fwd the idle Changes before the gear is fully in fwd how do I adjust the shifter to work normal

Thanks for watching my video! If your engine is similar to mine, at 2:47 in the video, there is a show of a round arm with two screws on it. The bottom gold screw is the idle adjustment screw. You can also change the idle situation by running the "barrel" in or out as shown at 3:02 in the video. Make sure the fast idle arm on the controller is all the way down. ok so I juts replaced throttle and shifter cable it will go into reverse but whenever I put it in Drive it stays in reverse what do I do

Thanks for watching my video! It has to be the "can" on the shifter cable. Adjust it backward/forward till it works properly. whats the problem when the string wheel is hard to turn? I discounted steering link...but the motor is very hard to turn left or. right. what am i doing wrong?

Thanks for watching my video Brenda! The steering is hooked up to the engine by a large black cable. At the wheel are teeth that move that cable back and forth. Grease that area thoughly. At the engine are grease points for the shaft that runs through a tube. Get a grease gun and grease that too. If that doesn't fix the problem. you probably need a new steering cable. Thanks for watching my video Mohammad! If you have a remote throttle, it is going to be that the throttle cable needs to be adjusted. The explanation for this begins at 2:40 in my video. You have to adjust the barrel till you are getting speed both in forward and reverse. Best, The Sailor.

@@nathanielnewsome6699 I need to explain. It is right next to the top spark plug and it works this way. If there is no cooling water, it will overheat and set off a buzzer inside the controller. The same buzzer that will go off if there is no oil in the reservoir (that is one reason I removed the oil system and went to 50:1 mixed). Let me know if you find it.
