How to install Microsoft Windows 10 on a Chromebook and keep ChromeOS as the main Operating System

In this step-by-step guide, I will show you how to install Microsoft Windows 10 on your Chromebook computer. The days of ChromeOS being limited are over and you can now do most things using ChromeOS.
However, there may be a particular reason why you want to install MS Windows on your ChromeOS computer. If this is something you would like to do this guide will help.
This way of installing Microsoft Windows still keeps ChromeOS on your Chromebook. Therefore, you will have access to both ChromeOS as normal and you can access Windows 10 using a Virtual Machine.
You'll need a pretty powerful Chromebook for this to work. Ideally with a minimum of 8GB of RAM and at least 64GB of storage. An Intel i5 processor or higher is recommended.
This is a step-by-step guide and therefore you need to follow the video completely to ensure Windows 10 installs correctly on your Chromebook. We'll come up against errors and we will go through those errors in the video and how to fix them.
PLEASE NOTE: In this video, I suggest installing Windows 10 Home. Since then I've realised it's probably best to install Windows 10 Pro. This is because it will make installing older programs inside Windows easier if you come up against issues around Windows blocking you from installing certain programs. You can still use this video, and when I choose Windows 10 Home in the drop-down list, simply change this to Windows 10 Pro. Everything else stays the same.

So what I must do with that error?

I can't really help with errors you've encountered, which I did not come up against during the process. The best thing to do is to do some research about your specific issue and see if you can get a Resolution. Hope you're able to fix the issue.

Hi, I tried the whole steps, and I am all ok until after the creation of the VM. It have that white cursor, and then I see the windows logo (light blue), but it just hang there. I did not see the spinning white dots underneath, and sometime I see 1 or 2 dots, but they are not moving. I never get to see the next screen about you choosing language, etc. I've waited for hours just to see if it goes thru, but It doesn't. I am using Acer Spin14 (CP514-1H) which is not very powerful, but I just want to try it. How should I get past the windows logo screen to the rest of the installation? Thanks!

I don't think you'll be able to. If it's hanging on the install sounds like it isn't going to work on your Chromebook.

Try selecting the next most recent version displayed, or use the generic entry😢

Sorry I don't know how to help. I've just looked back at the video and cannot explain why you're having these issues. Perhaps watch the steps again to make sure you're doing everything right. If you are and still having issues try Google to get help for your specific issue.

did you use the 64 bit download I found out that the 64 bit has everything needed for the iso to work the the 32 bit download iso if you look back it says windows 10 at the bottom where the check mark is at so you need to 64 bit download when you open the 32 bit download of windows 10 it has only one file in the 32 bit download it need all the stuff for it to work im just using a 2017 lenovo n23 school chromebook this chromebook does not take updates the last update was a year ago it can't play roblox with out lagging and it has 3 gb of ram less storage then the new chromebooks but it the only chromebook i have my family is poor so I bought this for 20$ I guess.

Great video for those Chromebooks with Intel and Amd CPUs. Mine is Lenovo IdeaPad 3 Chrome book with CPU of MediaTek MT8183. Hence, I tried to search on Google that many tech sites don't recommend to install windows on MediaTek CPUs. So I need your advice that if there is any option to install windows full os /windows lite on this device?

MediaTek SoCs are based on the ARM architecture and tend to not be that powerful, so virtualizing Windows require x86 emulation

Hello, thank you for this video. So far, it helped me a lot. But now I have a problem at the very end, when windows shows configuration menus during initial start, at the end it goes to the beginning with language, keyboard, etc... again and again, ...a boot loop. Do you have an idea please ?

Windows 10 pro is a better option because it also makes it easier for permissions if you ever need to use them.

The best thing to do is to try it. If your Chromebook supports KVM you should see slightly better results.

How big is your Linux storage? It's your Linux storage where the space is needed.

You need to check the text is inserted at the bottom of the file using nano. Also a system restart might be needed.

Restart your Chromebook and run it again without changing any files and it should work.

I reinstalled because I wanted to use Windows 10 Pro rather than home. The second time around I noticed an issue. The best thing to do is to use nano to edit the file, and make sure you save it before exiting the text editor. Close down the KVM installer and start from the beginning. If that doesn't work do a system restart and run KVM again, which should work fine.

Audio sounds highly compressed. It affects the intelligibility of the speech, even for a native English speaker's ears. You may have a low bandwidth codec selected on your video editor and not realize it. Or your capture software is using a similar low data rate codec.

I had the same issue, I saw online to add some few line of messages to the Linux command notes to disable namespaces which worked for me. Just set 'namespaces=[]' in /etc/libvirt/qemu.conf

The video zooms in for the command needed to install the virtual machine. If you're referring to download link for Windows. Best just to type Microsoft Windows 10 download into Google and choose the result for the Microsoft site.

Make sure you're using the correct name. If it still isn't working have you tried to install Windows? The file may show as blank until you have at least tried to install it.

Just in case anyone is considering this. It's worth remembering Tiny 11 is not created or supported by Microsoft. Therefore, I would personally not recommend this method.

Oh I see. You need the link for the Windows 10 OS. If I'm being honest with you I can't remember. Just search Google for windows 10 download, just make sure the website it takes you to is Microsoft because you don't want some download from another site.

Yea, iIf you use this method you will still have ChromeOS as your default OS. Windows runs inside a virtual machine.

The only error I come up against is the error shown in the video. I can't help with errors I did not have. However, if you turn your Chromebook off and on again and try it again and see if that works. If it does not you'll have to do some research on Google.
