to be clear, with the steam version of SDV the modding api will launch automatically by just launching the game as normal. it's versions from other stores that need to be launched via the new EXE.

(Little late but just so if anyone is wondering, this is only IF you change your launch options to target the new EXE, otherwise it will just launch vanilla stardew.)

Because of the SMAPI 4.0.7 update I can’t open my saved file I uninstalled and reinstalled the newest SMAPI and followed the mod tutorial ( NPCmaplocation mod) yet I don’t see the mod every time I open the game- is it just me or the mod itself :(

Hi, apparently the mods could not be added once i drag the overgrown flowery interface into mods folder. I did clicked the StardewAPI, but doesn't work.

Can you load in through the SMAPI version of it without overgrown flowery interface? If not then there might have been an issue with it installing -- you could try uninstalling it, then reinstalling it! Also if you haven't yet make sure your game is fully up to date as that can cause it not to work as well!

SMAPI doesn't run on mac, last I tried it couldn't run Stardew with it installed.

I’ve modded stardew before, and as i was updating my mod files my game was being super weird. I figured out that it was generic mod config that was causing a constant error message in the terminal, which is super frustrating bc like u said it’s super helpful :,) Do you have any idea why this is? I tried moving all the other mods out the folder and just ran it with the generic mod config one, and it was still doing the same thing. I tried reinstalling it too a few times. I’m a bit lost on what to do haha

If you haven't yet I'd try uninstalling SMAPI and then reinstalling it and content patcher to see if that helps. You could also try repairing your game and reinstalling SMAPI & content patcher after to see if that fixes it!

@@FluffyBreadMuffin I switched to using Vortex and had some complications but got it to work. Now I'm having issues with my friend getting them. She has different errors. Probably going to spend my weekend trying to get them to work

All of my mods are 1.6 compatible as the whole vid was made post 1.6. My mod list is super long and ever changing so I haven’t posted it anywhere yet but all the mods are on nexus!

Hey I'm pretty new to stardew and playing with mods in general, soo If I want to play the game with mods, I open it with StardewModdingAPI, right? But if I want to play the normal game again without mods, do I just have to start the normal game via steam or the stardew.exe?

In theory you should be able to but I've never done that before. If you wanted to be super safe, I'd suggest just moving the mods folder out of your game folder to somewhere safe, then running the game vanilla. Then when you want your mods back move it back in!

i'm sorry, but i'm having trouble with the portrait mods. somehow, i use pytk and it sure does named with the file of portrait i use when i pressed "p" but the picture didn't change. do you might know what to do with it?

I haven't used that mod but I believe it has special instructions for installing the portraits themselves, they might have to go into the folder or something like that. You can also download generic mod config menu to make sure everything is enabled correctly!

After downloading the Smapi can i still play Vanilla stardew without uninstalling the stuff i have modified?

I've honestly never tried -- I'd imagine if you just loaded up the game with it's normal .exe you'd have almost a fully vanilla game but you'd be dealing with mods still that are trying to load that won't work. Which might cause issues. I'd probably suggest just moving your mods folder out of your game folder, to some place like your desktop or another safe place, then launching through the normal .exe so SMAPI would still technically be installed but not in use and then the mods folder itself wouldn't try to use your mods! Then when you want to play with mods move it back into the game folder.

so i downloaded both the content patcher and smapi and testing if they work using an interface just doesnt work, I've tried reinstalling different versions but unfortunately that doesn't work either, should i get in contact with the developers?

You could try a different mod with SMAPI, try installing the latest version from scratch? It's also worth noting that you can read your SMAPI screen (the additional screen that pops up) and see if it's giving you and warnings or errors and then search for the fix for those!

I've never run into that issue so I'm not sure -- you could check the wiki to see if they have any information on it though! To follow up -- you could also try downloading it from the github link directly to see if it was nexus having an issue! Link: github.com/Pathoschild/SMAPI/releases/tag/4.0.8

this happened to me! i somehow managed to fix it once i uninstalled everything and started fresh and followed this video tutorial exactly, if that still persists then i’m not sure! may just be a small mistake during installation!

I'm not able to find the folder where Stardew Valley is, icluding where StardewModdingAPI should be, nor am I able to open the StardewModdingAPI. It's hard for me to find videos explaining this, mostly because it doesn't seem like a normal problem, but also because I don't have Stardew Valley from Steam, which often is used in the tutorials. Do you know how I can fix this?

The best way would be to search for "how to find exe (enter in name of your gaming client)" so like "how to find exe GOG" or "how to find exe Epic Games" and see if that helps!

No idea sadly -- however you can right click and run as administrator to see if that helps. You can also try downloading it directly from github to see if that fixes it (some are having firewall issues). You might need to repair your game and then try installing SMAPI again. At that point I'd then try loading in with just the SMAPI exe and make sure that all works before adding in any mods!

In my content patcher file there is no folder? Only two documents that say ContenPatcher.dll and manifest.json? ;-;

On Nexus? Those are just to make sure you know it has a dependency you can just download content patcher by hitting "download" above the box with the mod requirement.

Did you double check that when installing SMAPI said that it was good to go? You could try reinstalling it to see if it shows up/to see if you're getting the all set message.

I tried to install the "Overgrown Flowery Interface" but it didn't change the actual world. It changed menus, but it's hard to tell if it's meant to change the world. Do you know why that might be?

Flowery Interface is just an interface/UI mod so it won't change the world at all. Just your UI/Menus/Interface.

Sorry, can anyone help me? I have done everything I was told and downloaded all the texture packs from Gwen as mentioned above, the shape of my map, house and trees remains the same, nothing has changed, only the UI has changed, did I make a mistake?

Someone had mentioned that it auto works now - however in the wiki article I linked says you just have to change where steam launches from I believe to get it to work. So I'd read through that to see what it says to do!

whenever i try and register for Nexus mods to download SMAPI, i am met with " ERROR Captcha challenge failed. Please try again. Need help or can't see the challenge? Troubleshoot login issues. " but i never was able to do the captcha because of this error, does anyone know how to fix it? (Windows 10)

it's sadly not working even tho i did everything you said, downloading everything and then starting it over that version you said but the mods arent there. i used the same thing you did as "test mod" and not even that is working. i'm not sure what i did wrong here

Did you launch through SMAPI? And also make sure your game is 100% up to date as that can cause issues/make things not work. The other thing is maybe SMAPI didn't install correctly? You could try installing it again to see if that fixes it!

So what i gathered from the comments, if i dont use SMAPI as the launch option and it opens as the vanilla steam Version, i could still play with friends right? and then if i play alone and launch the game via SMAPI the mods work? i have not tried yet, maybe someone out here can help. EDIT: i am planning on fully modding my game, another tutorial said to put the option on steam to Launch it via SMAPI directly. i just want to avoid downlaoding all these mods and later regretting my decisions if i cant play with my friend whos not playing with mods and itsnt planning to.

I haven't tried just launching through the vanilla exe but I would think in part it might cause a few problems as your game might try to use the mods without being able too? The safest/best suggestion I have is to just remove your mods folder when you want to play vanilla or with friends and pop it back in when you want it modded! You can still leave SMAPI there and launch through vanilla but you'll ensure your game doesn't try to use mods or run into any potential bugs!

If you have access to your game folder/exe you should be fine -- however on the wiki page I linked in the description there's special instructions I believe to get it to work with xbox pc version!

You don't copy and paste the SMAPI you install it -- there should be a time stamp for SMAPI specific instructions!

you could try running it as an administrator by right clicking then hit run as administrator to see if that fixes it if it's the exe that won't run. If you can't open the download folder then I'd try downloading 7zip and seeing if that fixes it.
