I could not have completed my lighting kit without this video. Installed a set in both my truck and my son's. Thanks for posting. Also, I can confirm the kit fits 2019 Chevy Colorado (LT & WT) perfectly.

Awesome description! Pretty straightforward, but watching you do it and how you explained it made it really easy. I had no idea that the open factory connector was under there. My biggest fear was grabbing power and splicing wires somewhere. Thanks a lot!

Great video! Thank you for posting - after watching I had the confidence to buy and install on my Colorado in under an hour! They are definitely bright enough to see everything in the bed at night with the tonneau cover rolled down.

Thank you for making this video! I just installed my bed lights, I first tried to follow GM's instructions and remove the driver tail light. I had a heck of a time getting the driver side tail light out and gave up then just did it the way you showed. I think it'd be nice to be able to zip tie the harness to the tail light structure as shown in the GM instructions but it's not worth it, getting the tail lights out is a royal pain. I dread if I ever need to replace a tail light bulb in the winter, all kinds of plastic is going to get broken pulling those tail light assemblies out :(

Does anyone know if you can buy those clip in nuts and the wiring harness connector by itself? I have lights already.

It might be fun and useful to add a single led light to the bumper steps to light up where to put your foot when the bed lights are on.

Very nice information for the bed light kit. However we can learn from your possible mistake, of using the wrong light on the wrong side. If you had put the lights in their proper place, you would not have had the connections towards the front! That is how I’ve seen them installed as a factory option. As for passing the harness over to the other side, if there’s enough slack, I’d pass it through that big round bar that’s part of the trailer hitch, then seal the ends to keep water an debris out!
@fondupot
@fondupot 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, there is only one way to install the harness do to how the wiring is laid out. And as for passing it thru the trailer hitch bar, I think that's probably more work. It was very easy to just to zip tie the passenger side of the harness up to other factory harnesses just behind the bumper and then fish it up thru the side of the bed. Pretty easy. Thanks for watching!

@@fondupot Fishing the harness through his thick bar, with a cloths hanger, then sealing it off with some great stuff an silicone. I’m just not sure I want to go all through the expense and hassle, when my two stick on the sides switch LED lights , that are battery powered and cheap, that still have power a year later! But my beds uncovered so I only need the lights at night. The one other advantage? I can switch them on where they are, in the back.
@fondupot
@fondupot 3 жыл бұрын
The harness is OEM quality. I don’t think you’d need to go they the trouble of sealing it up with silicone. Battery powered lights are definitely a valid option though. If they work for you. Stick with em!

Hi, nice video. I called the parts department at our local GM dealership and gave them the part number you listed. That part number is for 2016 and up. My truck is a 2015 and the parts guy said it wasn’t a factory option in my truck year. Maybe the wiring harness could be modified to work, but I would have to special order it as it’s not a stock item. Not sure I want to take the chance at spending $130. Maybe you know if it might work?
@fondupot
@fondupot 3 жыл бұрын
So, check under your driver side tail light. See if there is a pair of wires just bare there. That means you at least have the wiring. You could order the kit, and cut the connector off, and then splice in your own two wire connector on your truck, and then another on the harness. And then mount it up just the same. Or you can do a DIY option and make your own harness and use your own LED's to hook up the wires under the tail light. Thanks for watching! Good luck.

Is there no way to make it so you can switch on/off from the back?
@fondupot
@fondupot 3 жыл бұрын
Not that I know of. The way it works with the OEM wiring is with the button from the cab. You'd probably have to wire it independently from the main vehicle harness and then install some kind of switch in the rear to do what you are thinking.

Whoops! I replied to the wrong comment earlier. You can make your own harness and use your own connectors. Simply cut off the connector under the driver side tail light and splice in your own wiring. Any 2 wire waterproof connector should do the trick.

Have you ever changed the spark plugs on your Canyon or the Colorado?
@fondupot
@fondupot 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Caleb. I haven't only because my trucks haven't reached the mileage required for a spark plug replacement. My Colorado only had 33k miles when it was totaled by a tornado. And my Canyon has just over 14,000 miles. I think the recommend mileage is around 60,000. I do plan on keeping the Canyon for a long time, and will do a spark plug change video...one day. Thanks for the comment!

Thanks for the compliment. Check the owners manual. It might be 100k for spark plugs. If that’s the case you might be good for a while longer.
