2000 Polaris Trail Blazer 250 Oil injection Block off kit installation.
A hasty demonstration using an oil injection block off kit and single pull throttle cable modification, to maintain reliability and economy on an overhauled engine. The idea is still in the process of being tested, as this is the 3rd Polaris oil injection block off kit install performed with no complaint for engine failure. The Polaris engine lubrication concept varies drastically than its competitor, the Japanese manufactures, which suggest in the service manual to mix oil and gasoline to a specified ratio. In reference to any of the related 2-cycle engine ATV, jet skies, and snowmobiles manufactured by Polaris, they call for specific procedures which use oil injection due to cylinder and engine casing design. This method of oil deliver starts from an oil injector nozzle located in the intake pipe. Some oil will atomize with the gasoline located in the transfer ports. The remaining oil moves through cylinder porting eventually finding its way to an oil hole port dedicated to the main crankshaft bearings.

After you install everything like you did in the video do you have to cap any lines or anything. How about where the oil pump line feeds into the engine?

Polaris oil pumps are damn near bulletproof. maintain the cable/line and I've never seen one fail

I would agree for the most part, at least on the older manufacturer Polaris'. I believe the issue is that most older model polaris owners dont know there is a gear drive oil for the oil pump and water pump. Its 100ml from the factory, and most people never replace it. If you get any leak in that area, you run those drives and pumps dry, which leads to failure.

After you do this , what fuel to oil mixture should you be using ?? I'm very interested in installing this on my 2000 polaris xplorer 250 4x4 . After I get my cylender back from being bored out by summit off-road .

+brad b sorry for the late reply. I installed a brand new top end, so for piston/ ring break-in, I mix the oil between 20:1 to 32:1. After break in, I was using 32:1 to 40:1.You probably already know that the engine contains no internal oil, and relies on the oil injector pump to bleed oil into crankcase for crankshaft bearing lubrication. I recommend running a 32:1 mixture to avoid overheating, seizing, and crank bearing failure, although a 40:1 mixture ratio may produce more power or it may be a better mixture depending on engine modifications, i.e. high flow air filter, high flow exhaust, reed valves, etc.

Thanks : ) I'll be getting a fresh bore and piston because of oil pump failure . : ( I hope after I do this mod , it will not happen again . I'm going for the wiseco piston and I've seen the oil pump bypass on ritter cycle racing with the single throttle cable for 62 doll hairs .

You take off the oil tank and Hoses and block off the oil port on the carburetor

You can leave your oil tank if you want, drain it, remove lines, and cap it. The more important thing is to make sure your intake port oil nipple is blocked off, so you don't have an air leak. That's pretty much it.

I have the polaris 250 xplorer I was wondering if I can mix the gas my self ? Or do I need to use the oil injection to oil up the crank to?

If it's stock, there should be an oil tank that you fill up to pre mix the fuel. Both methods are intended to lubricate the crank bearings, but pre-mixing doesn't do as good of a job, I believe, in theory, when compared to oil injection.

Because the Crankcase is dry, there is no engine or Crankcase oil, it was designed for oil injection to lubricate the main crank bearings.

Yes, not plugging it will allow a minor air leak.

What happens if you premix but do not do a block off kit and just leave the oil pump with a dry reservoir?

Nate assuming the pump wasnt doing anything...that idea would work....only con would be if the pump is running say 50%, you could be over mixing if you use pre-mix your fuel. Fouled plugs...no other major problem i could think of?

Thanks for the reply! If the oil reservoir was dry so the pump wasn’t receiving any oil would you risk the pump or the pump drive gear you removed seizing up and causing damage to the lower end of the motor?

I just had my brother give me a 250 Polaris Trail Boss I put the block off kit in it and drained all the fluids in the whole bike what do you use for the bottom end oil

it's a 2 stroke, there is no oil in the bottom end, the fuel/oil mix enters the crankcase and oils it that way

So I’m currently attempting to install a block off kit and I’m to the point where I can’t get pump drive gear out of motor. My question is what tips or tricks can be used to get it out and if I can would I be safe to put blocking plate on with gear inside?

I believe I used a pair of needle nose pliars....its possible your engine is at a particular stroke and the crankshaft gear is applying tension to oil pump drive gear, which is engaging it, making it hard to pull out. Try rotating your crankshaft over by hand with the spark plug out to top dead center, and see if you can get it out with a pair of needles. If not, something else is wrong...might be seized. Or damaged

@@QuantumMotorWorks I had a similar problem. The little tab that allows you to grab the pump drive gear broke off while I was trying to remove it. I now can't get a grip on the pump drive gear to pull it out. Can I just leave it in and put the plate over it with gasket maker? Not sure why that would need to come out anyways. I should add, I have the whole top end off b/c I'm doing a rebuild. I'm working on a '93 Trail Boss 250. It's so old, I'm wondering if the gear is just fused in there. I was reading that on some models, part of this gear is plastic for some dumb reason. Part of the piece I broke off was definitely plastic. Anyway, the bottom end feels smooth with no play so I'm going to leave well enough alone, finish rebuilding the upper end and call it goods. Don't really have the time / energy / money to put too much into this guy.

You have to take the gear out. If you leave the gear in for the oil pump, the water pump gear will engage it while the engine is running and more than likely damage the engine. There is a side cover located on the right side of the engine behind the expansion pipe. This is where the water pump shaft is located and it engages the oil pump drive gear/shaft. The shafts are steel but the gears are plastic. They must be disassembled carefully or if forced. They will break. You need a service manual.

@@tomascharles5080 It worked great for me - pretty sure my engine is air cooled (see info from Quantum if you have water pump). I just put gasket maker around the oil pump to seal it up and put it back on. To be clear, the gear / shaft was no longer attached to the pump at this point so the oil pump wasn't engaging that shaft / gear and vice-versa. That way you don't need the block-off kit. The other thing I did (can't remember if it's in the above-video) is I put gasket maker and a vacuum cap on the cylinder where the hose from the oil pump attached - I think it was right near the intake manifold but on the actual cylinder. Maybe Quantum can expand on his point below - If the oil pump gear is spinning, but not attached to anything, I'm not sure how it would damage the engine, even if the water pump is engaging the oil pump gear. Wouldn't the oil pump gear/shaft just spin? I really don't know, so that's why I say to ask Quantum. Thanks for posting the video and responding Quantum, by the way. It was a big help to me.

For a top end, probably 1- 2 hours of gas, if a bottom and top, figure 3 hours.

I ended up taking out my engine on my 03 air cooled Trailblazer, I got the oil pump off my I’ve tried everything trying to pull the drive out and it’s not coming out, any suggestions?

I think I answered a question like this a few years ago. Turn the engine back and forth by hand while trying to pull gear drive with pliers.

the crankcase acts as an intake manifold, piston down stroke sucks and slightly compresses the air/fuel/oil from the carb. into the crankcase that's why crankcase seals are important

hello, on your Oil Pump Drive, there is a groove (see minute 4.02, where you place your thumb). Can you tell me if an oring is housed in this groove? When removing my oil pump drive, I noticed that I don't have any orings, and I believe that this part has never been touched, and I see that in the parts diagram (motorcycle diagram) an oring appears. Now I'm unsure whether I should buy the oring or not... Hug from Portugal

I have a 2003 Polaris 250cc and every time I go to drive the quad it moves very slow at first then it kicks in then after a couple of blocks I will hold the throttle down and it makes a very loud rep sound but it doesn't go any faster then it goes very slow after that what is wrong with it can anybody help me

Sounds like your drive belt is slipping on the sheeves. Pull off your left hand engine cover and check the condition of CVT assembly for damage or wear; drive belt, primary and secondary clutches.

@@WETDILLDOUGH with the left engine cover removed, and the bike in neutral, you can turn on the engine and check the operation of the primary clutch. When you give it gas, while in neutral, you should see the primary clutch sheeves expand and collapse in a smooth manner. You can also check to see how the belt is riding in the sheeves. With the engine off, you can also check the secondary clutch by kinda pulling, or twisting in a specific direction ( ccw, or cw) to check the spring tension and ramp for damage. You should also be able to grab the drive belt and bend in backwards and there should be no cracks and it should still be pliable. Those are checks for the cvt assembly.

I've had people ask me recently, but I would need the original pump with its cover or just its cover if it can be separated I cant remwmber,, drive gear, and drive gear cover so it can be copied.

@@emoh_em_ekat_sdaor_yrtnuoc8618 i just installed it on my 00' Xploder 300 went in super easy. im going to try Amsoil Saber and high octane at around 1:32-1:40... i went up in Jet size to 145 to allow for thicker fuel
