How to Install PS3HEN on Any PS3 on Firmware 4.91 or Lower!

Күн бұрынPS3Xploit brings homebrew to all models of the PS3 in the form of HEN, short for Homebrew Enabler! PS3HEN works on ANY retail model of PS3 as long as your console is on firmware 4.91 or lower. This tutorial will walk you through the process of installing 4.91 HFW, a hybrid firmware build of 4.91 which will allow you to install and run the required files. After being installed, this will cover the actual installation of PS3HEN, homebrew installation, and some quick tips on how to use PS3HEN!
Although this tutorial was recorded on firmware 4.91, the installation process is the same on higher firmwares as long as all of the software needed has been updated. The only difference would be a higher version of HFW and PS3HEN would need to be used. If the video title and description shows a higher firmware number than what is shown in the video, that means PS3HEN and HFW have been updated for that specific version.
Keep in mind this is not the equivalent of a full custom firmware (CFW) or jailbreak! PS3HEN does not have the full access CFW contains, but much of the functionality people are looking for is available on PS3HEN. Not all homebrew will work on PS3HEN, some of it will require either resigning to 3.55 or will need an update from the author.
As a final warning directly from the PS3Xploit team themselves: DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES ENABLE FSM (Factory Service Mode) OR INSTALL CCAPI ON A PS3 WITH PS3HEN!

I don't normally comment on yt BUT - I've softmodded my dsi and Wii over the past few years. Not being super technically minded it took hours, making mistakes, having to check things multiple times. They update at minimum yearly and will continue to do so as long as they want to support Blu-ray movie support on it. Each year is to update AACS keys at minimum

Some tips that might help someone: If you’re installing from safe mode and it says it cannot find the update on your USB.. make sure to please start and select, the disconnect your controller cable from the controller while it’s checking.

To anyone running into issues despite being positive you followed the steps exactly, most likely all you have to do is unplug the controller. And if that doesn't work, unplug your USB. Every single roadblock I ran into along the way was solved by just unplugging something lol--even my system repeatedly crashing on installing HEN. Thanks for the in-depth and clean tutorial Mario!

Small question, do I need to do the whole process if I change my HDD, or would that only be from the part where you install multiman, I'm assuming is the latter but just wanted to be sure since I have a bigger HDD and forgot to install it before doing everything.

Hey thanks for the reply, that is what I ended up doing, although I started the update process from the safe mode because it was not letting me get into the game menu and then did the XMB, but just in case I did it a third time through safe mode because I wasnt sure since I started it from a new HDD and didnt have a choice. @@MrMario2011

I really needed this. I have a Launch model PS3 that I jailbroke myself and loaded up with a bunch of goodies, but it sadly runs way too hot for my liking, and the CFW fan settings just ramp the fan up to almost max after a 10-15 minutes. I have a stock Super Slim PS3 that I made my main PS3 after I "retired" the Fat PS3 until I can get some new thermal paste, and I'm now planning on installing HEN on it thanks to this video.

Thank you very much for this tutorial. Ive done it successfully, but because HDD crashes sometimes I want to do a full format on system restore. Are there any perquisites after the HEN instalation or it is safe to do it right away? Also what will be the system software vrsion after the format? You will need to follow the steps to install HEN again after you install a new hard drive. Install the hfw update only if prompted for a firmware update.

I was going fine but When I reached minute 13 and pressed system update, I only had the option to download latest firmwave 4.91 and no option of update via storage media was found. So I updated my ps3 normally to 4.91 and then I tried updating via storage media, but the ps3 tuned off mid download, did I screw up?

It's not useless. It was made with a very specific and thought out design philosophy from the get go. That philosophy, of course, being them wanting to restrict you from doing as you please with an 18 year old system that hasn't had any sort of physical release for nearly 10 years now. Thanks, Sony! And no, LRG doesn't count as those are a grift and not real thought out releases meant to actually be played.

I don't trust my self with doing this but after your video I feel confident also I know you said hen will stop if you go in and out of PS2 games but if I was to use webman and re calculate my console fan usage will that not work with PS2 games? It sets the fan to a static speed for PS2 titles, unless it's a PKG.

When i try to install I get the "No applicable update data was found" but the PS3 does recognize I plugged in a storage device. I formatted to FAT32 etc, the MD5 is correct, I'm not sure why it says it.

Hey Mario! I have both the OG Fat, and a slim model. Wondering which of the two I should keep stock for playing original discs with trophies, and which I should softmod? The Fat version currently has a 500GB internal drive, and the slim has a 120GB. My initial thought is to keep the Fat stock because of its backwards compatibility, mint condition, and rareness, but wanted your input nontheless to see what you'd do. Thanks for your help!

Fun fact : I've updated my second PS3 to a cfw after the job done all the buttons and the menu was like crazy moving clicks etc..like a possessed, I thought it was a problem with the firmware, after some test and digging it's was problem with my controller that I fixed with a cardboard between the battery and the motherboard.

Yeah it happenes, CFW exposes a lot of things in a good way tho😂 So for example if you haven’t cleaned your fans, or ever had a repast done! The fans will ramp up in speed and ps3 will get hot telling you that you need to clean the fans or get a repast done. Same with controls and disc games that are slightly scratched the ps3 will stop plying them or it’ll tell you when you try to back the game up that the data is invalid.

Do I have to do the soft reboot with a ps3 controller? Cuz I only got ps5 ones and I can’t activate primary, it says error and I can’t start a game. Even copyright issues and licence issues. Sadly

I updated my PS3 from the xmb menu but when I went to update it the 2nd time through safe mode it said that there's no applicable data found

It should work just fine in safe mode, try to remove other USB devices.

I just got a slim with v4.75 should I update to 4.91 first and then install HEN after? I'd like to watch some bluerays, but if there are any significant downsides to updating then I'll stay offline and forget about blueray.

I’m going to try this soon! Question. If you do this process and modify your PS3, is there anything you can do afterwards to bypass the issue with the system clock resetting? I’m aware of the cbomb from your battery dying, but can modding your ps3 this way ensure you can still play your games even if the time resets and it asks for you to go online? Hope that made sense!

To my knowledge I'm unsure. At the very least HEN allows for backing up digital licenses and relicensing, but I'm unsure about CBOMB.

Make sure the HFW file is good, but you could also run into that if your console is having issues with the Blu-ray drive or Bluetooth board.

Thanks for this videos I just found an ps3 slim on the street next to the bins in a bag but sadly the Blu-Ray drive does not work replacing it is not worth it so now I can load an iso and still play games
