How To Install The AEV Fuel Caddy

2 жыл бұрынIn preparation for a trip we decided to add an AEV Fuel Caddy to our JKU in order to allow us the option to explore a bit off the beaten track without fearing that we would not have range to the next fuel station. This was a very easy installation but it was not without a couple of nuances due to AEV's instructions layout and a lack of one particular clear warning. Join us as I go through this install step by step.

No fan of Jeep, I mean Chrysler, ....ah, I mean Fiat of Italy, but this is a pretty cool rig for holding extra fuel. Great video!

I have Fords, Chevys and the Jeep-all have their little issues but the Jeep at 51K has been rock solid. Now the one before it that was Lemon Law replaced with this one is a different story!

We definitely needed this for our hobby. This is also an inexpensive way compared to long-range America.

Seems like I remember gasoline weighing 6 pounds per gallon so possibly might can figure 60 extra pounds of weight but that’s kind of splitting hairs I guess. You are way more patient than I would ever be putting this thing together brother! Great video on installing this thing though for sure! I’ve always wanted a jeep but haven’t turn loose of the money yet.

Actually you are right on the weight of gasoline so I stand corrected. The install was pretty easy really, I encountered no real problems. Thanks for checking in.

Is that an aftermarket spare tire carrier? I don’t see mine looking like that 🤔

Yes, this is the AEV spare tire carrier, the aux fuel tank is designed to fit their carrier.

Thanks for the video! I too have the AEV fuel caddy and am hoping you can indulge me by answering my question. How much does your fuel caddy leak through the gas cap when taking it off road? Mine leaks terribly, there is fuel everywhere, even when I stop filling it 6 inches from the top. AEV tells me it's designed to leak a little and advised me not to overfill it. I am very careful not to. What's your experience? TIA Joe

Thanks for the question. I must say that I didn't't see any leaking at all with mine, but I used it for long distance touring over some rough roads (Dempster Highway, Top of the World Highway) so rough but not "off roading". I like AEV a lot but I cannot imagine a fuel canister designed to leak a little, perhaps pressure vent but not leak. If I recall I put in 10 gallons and shut it off, I didn't look in to see how close that was to the fill pipe so maybe overfilled, but that still makes no sense that it would leak as long as the pressure vent was working correctly. Is the gasket in the cap in good shape (or even there?) and it didn't get cross threaded somehow? Doesn't sound right to me at all.

Ordered one on Amazon. First one was “broken during shipment” and never arrived. 2nd one made it to my door without any hardware or a gas cap or instructions 🤦♂️. Maybe 3rd one will be the charm or maybe it’s a sign that I should not install one 😆

That sounds like quite an ordeal, I think I ordered mine on Amazon but it came directly from AEV. Is that the same for you?
