The Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd gen) is simple to set up and install. We'll walk you through the entire process of installing your thermostat in the right spot and you'll find detailed instructions in the Nest app.
If you haven't already checked that your system will work with the Nest thermostat, use Nest's Compatibility Checker: nest.com/works
If you want a wiring diagram, go to: nest.com/support/#works/?mode...
You'll learn how to install the 3rd gen Nest Learning Thermostat yourself, including how to:
- Remove your old thermostat
- Take a photo of your old setup and label the wires
- Install the Nest base
- Connect the wires to the Nest thermostat
- Attach the Nest thermostat display
- Connect the Nest thermostat to the Nest app. If you're having trouble connecting to the app, go to nest.com/pair/ for more details.
We'll also give you a preview of how to setup your thermostat: you'll pick a language, connect it to Wi-Fi, tell it a few basics about your home, and tell it about your heating and cooling system so it can help you save energy.
After setup, get the basics on how to use your thermostat, how it learns, and how to save energy at nest.com/thermostatbasics
If you prefer not to DIY install, find a Nest Pro: nest.com/profinder
To learn more, visit nest.com/support

Pro tip: cut out a inch x inch square and take it to a paint shop. They use a computer to match the color. Be sure the sample location is a good representation of the color since sun/grease/dust might make it look different than you want. Get a sample size of paint which often is free and then test it out. Mine matched perfectly

Just googled this as I had the same concern. Nest thermostats don't use jumper wires and you can simply ignore it. They use an internal jumper between the Rh and Rc connectors, so an R wire can go into a Nest Learning Thermostat's Rc or Rh connector.

If you just have a Red wire, hook it to either Rh or Rc, doesn't mater... Unlike most thermostats, the Nest Learning Thermostat does not require a jumper wire between Rh and Rc. Nest knows that if you've got heating and cooling, and just one R wire, the power source is shared between them. ... Nest Thermostat connectors are built so that only one wire can be inserted per connector.

Can you add those threshold settings like in Ecobee? In cold areas, furnaces might short cycle every 15mins like four times per hour and waste energy. If we can set the heat to run a minimal 30 mins and the start to run threshold to be 2F, it would actually save more energy.

My existing Honeywell thermostat is connected to the Central Heating pump only and controls that. When the temperature in our hall, where it's situated, drops then the thermostat detects that and turns on the pump and that fires up the boiler and hence the radiators get hot again. Simples! Why complicate matters so with a swanky device and anyway what it 'Fan' ? I don't have that.

I am thinking of getting one but my boiler has a programmer box fitted to it and the thermostat is in the living room so can fix the nest one their. What I need to know is what happens to the box that currently times the hot water and or heating? Does this have to be disconnected? In the box is the heat link and you do not even mention it. We need this to heat the water, so is it not a waste of money just to use this as a thermostat when it does both? This makes this not so easy to do as it is complicated to put the Heat Link in as we need to take off the programmer.

I moved into this house last June with the Nest installed already by the previous owner. The unit has been working fine until last night. The Internet has been disconnected. I checked the Nest and it indicated that the batter power is too low -- 3.716V. And I check the Equipment has this configuration: W1-Y1-G-Rc. I pulled out the Nest, and there is no C wire. Should I run a C wire to keep the Next charged up all the time as suggested by some?

Will it control furnace blower ON/OFF? My humidifier is mist kind and requires heat and blower working together with humidifier. My humidifier also requires furnace blower to work a couple minutes after humidifier switches off automatically to distribute all the moisture collected in the duct. If blower stops the same time with mist humidifier moisture still will sit inside plenum and makes it rust. Will this Humidifier Control have this setting so furnace blower work few minutes after humidifier switched off??

I bought one of these, and the first month it was in place my bill soared from 450 dollars to more than 1250 dollars. I called, and they said, "that happens sometimes." They told me how to turn off the "smart" features of the thermostat, and I paid my insane electric bill. I later found out my kids were coming home from school and cranking the ac down in the heat of summer when nobody was home, so that's what it started doing. Can't blame the company for that, but oh my goodness was that a sad discovery. It doesn't seem to shut off reliably when the temperature is reached (it gets way chilly) as well. Can't say I recommend this product because now it's just a pretty thermostat. There needs to be a warning on the box.

My house has two thermostats for controlling temperatures for upstairs and downstairs. Will I need to purchase two separate Nests to control upstairs and downstairs, or just one to control both?

Hi Jason, We'd be more than happy to assist you with this. If your current home has two thermostats to control upstairs and downstairs, you will need to purchase Nest Thermostats for your home.

@curtsmith8612 5 years ago If you just have a Red wire, hook it to either Rh or Rc, doesn't mater...

I did this and it short cycles my AC. I switched to a $20 Honeywell which solved the problem. Any idea why it would have a phantom signal turning the condenser on and off every few seconds?

None of the instructions I've seen so far have mentioned if you can use the Nest with an old, low voltage 2-wire system. The thermostat I am trying to replace is an old mercury switch unit with 2 wires only. Will this work?
