Saved me from so much frustration on the pin release. Kept pushing up instead of down to release my Honeywell Pro wires. Couldn’t have installed my Nest Learning System without this video. Thank you!

Sorry just seeing this 2 days later Surya! So this step is helping your Nest understand what system you have so it can properly control it and give you the expected outcome. I can't exactly say which one you should select because I'm not aware of what you're heating system is. I’m missing the white wire? How would I fix this? We installed correctly but it’s not showing an option for emergency heat

Not all HVAC systems are wired the same. also, just because a thermostat being replaced is the same model I demonstrated in the video, also doesn't mean it's going to be the exact same setup. Did you use the Google Nest Thermostat compatibility checker?

If we have this thermostat, will it automatically work with nest or should we also check the actual furnace and A/C compatibility?

Honestly, every house can be different so I wouldn't assume you can easily use a Nest Thermostat. What I would highly recommend is taking your current thermostat face plate off and try to see what wires you have set up before touching anything. Then run through the compatibility checker (Google "nest compatability checker") and then walk through those steps. Hope this helps and hope your setup is an easy transition over! :)

Hi, thanks for the video. Is there any rule that I need to install my new thermostat within x minutes of removing the old one or it would lose callibaration? One of the hvac person told me that so wanted to confirm

I have never heard of needing to calibrate an HVAC system by making sure to install a thermostat within x number of minutes. I'm also not an HVAC technician. If a thermostat isn't installed, you just have open wires that won't do anything for your system. Once you install a thermostat, you now how the tool used to control and manipulate your HVAC. Leaving it not connected wouldn't do anything except collect dust (I'm thinking logically, but again, not a technician. Get a different opinion)

@jayrajparmar1727 that's a great question and it can be different for every HVAC system. What I recommend doing to Google "Nest thermostat compatibility checker" then you can go through the steps to see if your setup is compatible with a Nest thermostat and Google has some walk throughs

Hi i need help. i have 5 wire aswell but i dont have blue and yellow. what i have are black,orange,white,red,green. can you tell me which letter should i put the orange and black wire.

So the colors don't always translate to be the exact same thing every time. It depends on how your system was all wired. What I would recommend is go to Google Nests compatibility walk through and that may give you a better idea on what to wire where.

If you had a thermostat already installed and you're looking to change to the one you have listed, I would recommend taking a photo of how the wires were and then try to mimic that same setup to your new one. If all you have are wires that are free and there are no labels, I would recommend talking to an HVAC professional to make sure it's connected properly

I can't say for certain because I don't know your system, how it's wired, nor am I an HVAC technician. But this is what Google is saying: Nest thermostats are designed to work without a C wire in most homes. But some systems may require a C wire for consistent power. The Nest Power Connector is a simple and affordable alternative to a C wire, and costs much less than hiring an electrician to install a new C wire through your walls. So it may be good to get an HVAC tech to assess your situation if you don't have that constant power OR even an electrician

I do it so while I'm working on it, there isn't the chance of it attempting to turn on because of a temp change in the house and not having everything connected.

The Honeywell pro series has a wire connected into the E port on the Honeywell system and the nest doesn’t have that nor did you plug in your black why are you plugged in your white wire so what’s going on? Why aren’t all seven wires plugged in?

My setup I was able to match 1 to 1 and it was an easy conversion for me. If you have other wires that are labeled differently, I would suggest going to Google Nest's compatibility checker to see what your setup would be like so it's wired properly.

can you go from a honeywell pro series to a regular nest? Or do you need a pro series Nest

Hey @neilpatel2898 👋 so I demonstrate exactly that. I go from a Honeywell pro series to a Google Nest. Now the thing you need to check is if you're current HVAC system is compatible with Nest. You can Google "nest compatibility checker" and Google does a good job at that walk through. There are only 2 different kinds of Nest thermostats. The normal Nest thermostat (looks like it has a cloudy screen and is more plastic-y) and then the Nest learning thermostat (looks metal, nice clear glass screen, better, etc). There isn't a Nest Pro thermostat. That is more for if you want someone who is installing your thermostat and they are a "Nest pro (professional)" to do the install. Does that help?

I would run through Google's compatibility checker and that will actually give you the chance to put in any wire you have and your setup, to see how Nest/Google would recommend installing your wires or if you're system would even work to support the Nest

Often times the press release will do a good job releasing them. If the installer screwed them on, you may have to unscrew them and then just use the quick release.

I just did the opposite as I hated my Nest Thermostat so bad with a heat pump I had to go to a Honeywell T5. I don't miss all the twisting and turning and clicking just to do a simple task

Nest isn't for everyone and Honeywell does a good job with their products. Which ever way helps you control the temperature in your home the best, that's the best choice! 👌

Dude.... I'm with you! We bought a house which had a late model (version?) NEST.... it's an appliance from hell. Even the KZfaq videos on how to make it "manual" are a problem because they are on different versions, where Google changed the software user interface. I just bought a Honeywell RTH111B "non-programmable" thermostat, which has the least- complicated controls. All this business about "energy savings" and "learning your preferences" ..... Google can take a hike!

As a commercial HVAC tech foorr 22 years the best advice I have is... don't. Stick with the Honeywell. High tech connection is nothing but problems. Low tech with schedule can save you frustration.

That's quite the accomplishment and I'm sure your knowledge and expertise surpasses my ability by far. Personally, I have installed a Nest thermostat in 3 homes that i have lived in since 2016 and I haven't seen any issues with those homes yet. So the nothing but problems part I have yet to experience. Only 6 years though so maybe that will change later. 🤔 thanks for watching and commenting though!
