How to Interlock Weft Threads When Weaving With Two Shuttles

If you don’t want to use floating selvedges when weaving with two shuttles, use this method of interlocking your weft threads around each other for tidy edges. With shadow weave, you will always be weaving with two shuttles (as Jannie is doing in this video) but this technique also works for other weave structures.
When both shuttles are on the same side and the last weft goes over the last warp thread, go over that weft thread with the other weft thread; when it’s under, go under it. It’s easy to remember: over, over and under, under!

Great question! The answer is yes, the rule applies on both edges. :)

This method doesn't seem to work as well with overshot, since the pattern weft may not make it to the edge. I find an acceptable method is to always lead with the tabby. Then, regardless of the pattern weft path, take the next tabby pick with the same orientation it just exited the shed. So, if the tabby exits the shed over the edge warp, take it over the pattern weft for the next pick; if the tabby exited the shed under the edge warp, take it under the pattern weft for the next pick. Since the tabby always wraps the outer edge warp, this method will ensure the tabby "captures" the pattern pick. The pattern weft may not wrap the outer edge warp, but the tabby will grab it to be locked at the outer or second warp intersection with tabby. Also, since the tabby orientation is always the same on each edge, you can always throw with the same orientation. For example, if tabby exits on the right over the edge warp, it will always do so in the project. Therefore, the tabby can always enter the shed on the right by passing over the just thrown pattern weft.
